every time I read Dubon's name here I cant help but wonder why HEB chose him to be in any commercials? Could've easily replaced him with Hader, Brown, or even get Yordan in there and let him just speak Spanish to appease the Latino crowd.

So stupid.

I mean Dubon is a well loved player, especially by the casual fans. And got notoriety for winning a gold glove. I'd rather see the three you mentioned on the commercials too but I can see why they picked Dubon.

I'm betting Dubon comes much cheaper than other players.

I tend to agree - except that last night he should have been in the line-up. He was the only Astro with a good career numbers vs. Flaherty

Which is a head scratcher. Why does Espada insist on rolling Dubon out there night after night with spotty results if there's a better option on bench? Is this an Abreu situation?
Last night Dubon was the best option. But agree, that on average Rodgers gives us a better chance to win most nights.

I get what you're saying and I generally agree but at the same time moving a guy up in the order who's doing well is riding the hot hand.

When Jake was hitting well in the bottom 3 there was no one doing anything in the middle. When you need to find production you're going to move the hot hand up. Same with Bregman. He got moved up because Pena was crap and he needed production int eh 2 hole.

That's not a manager problem. That's a player problem.

So do we want him riding the hot hand or having a consistent lineup?
I get it with a guy like Bregman. If you move him down in the lineup and he gets hot, you want to move him back up if he maintains production when you do it. He has a history of hitting well higher in the lineup, so moving him down is hopefully just a jump start to get him on track so you can move him back up. Meyers is a different story. He has never been a quality middle of the order guy. You have past evidence showing that moving him up in the order doesn't work and that he doesn't hit well there. You know you are going to need somebody else to step up in that 4-5-6 spot, so why bother putting Meyers there and sending him back into a slump?

I disagree big time. I think most casual fans have zero idea who Dubon is.

In his last seven starts, Dubon is 7 for 24 with two walks, no strikeouts, and has reached base safely in all seven games. What he is right now is a better option than the other guys we have on the roster.

I was a big Rodgers fan and thought there was potential, but over his last seven starts, he's 3 for 29 with three walks and eight strikeouts.

I don't want Dubon starting either, but he's been performing better of late than the alternatives.

Epic day in Astros history from 2005

2005 - For the first time in 113 years, a National League game features two starting pitchers with over 300 wins in their careers. Chicago's Greg Maddux edges Roger Clemens for a 3-2 verdict on Jeromy Burnitz' solo homer off Clemens in the seventh. Jeff Bagwell launches the 449th and final homer of his career.

So Baggy didn't get a homer the rest of the 2005 season? Seems odd given we made the World Series that year. Did he get hurt?

He was hurt pretty much that whole season and wasn't very good ever in the postseason

Yeah his shoulder was ripped to shreds and IIRC played through it but had no power at all.

By the time the WS came he could barely swing a bat (not that it mattered).

His shoulder. He stopped playing in May -- came back in September. He only was in 39 games that year.

And he couldn't swing the bat when he got back, but Garner got guilt tripped and put him in at DH. He went 1 for 8 which wasn't too far removed from his normal playoff contributions. He couldn't throw at all.

then things threatened to get really nasty because the Astros couldn't file their insurance policy to collect on his salary in 2006 by saying he couldn't play baseball, because he wasn't any more hurt than he had been when he played in the '05 World Series.

There needs to be a corresponding roster move to get Blubaugh on the 40 -- right?

What's the move? Is it because Whitley went on the IL?
