Again as much as the Stros get hosed by bad ball/strike calls it's time for somebody to get tossed

Maybe Joe can channel that one bad day in his life when he just got mad for no reason

We need a damn left handed bat in the lineup - or two. Having an all right handed lineup isn't the answer. No balance whatsoever.

Lineup is hopeless without Yordan.

Even though he was struggling, he was the only guy in the lineup that was feared by opponents.

Altuve looks old.

Yainer has the worst approach I have ever seen by a hitter.

Christian Walker fell off a cliff, falling victim to the astros 1B curse.

Parades is a decent player, but he's being asked to be a middle of the lineup force. Something he has never been.

Cam Smith is not ready at all. What a joke to try and force him up because he hit good off AA pitchers in Spring Training for 3 weeks.

All the vocal leaders of the team were shown the door.

I'm going to have to check out for a while- just like the squad.

This offense is going to explode pretty soon.....when it's the same story every single year, now without Tucker or Bregman and we still have Abreu 2.0

Where is this supposedly explosive offense? It was anemic and bipolar the last few years even with Tucker and Bregman.

We simply do not have guys that are consistent OBP machines like Brantley. We bet $60M on a career .250 or lower hitter who strikes out a ton.

I mean Dubon should run laps tomorrow for trying to bunt with 2 outs and a runner on first

Now that if that was a call from the bench…..

Worst case scenario is playing out. Spending a ton of money to be average. Not good enough to compete and not bad enough to hit the reset button. Awesome.
yes, feels a lot like 2009 and 2010

when the Astros were trying to hang on with very few star players still in their prime -- just Pence and Bourn

Keep in mind we're paying $33.5M to Jose Abreu, Montero, and Pressly. We have another $10.5 going to Javier. That's $44M doing nothing for us. Thankfully, we've received three innings of work for the $17.7M going to LMJ.

Imagine what we could have added with the $28M going to Abreu and Montero. Thanks, Jim.

Your personal comfort will decrease until winning improves.

We could sign 1.4 more Christian Walkers to not hit

Make it simple.

You don't win the next two games, we're taking the bus from Milwaukee to Houston for Friday's game.

Thursday is a 'travel day' after all.

Top 5 in MLB in team ERA

.500 record because team OPS is 19th and SLG is 21st

So top 5 'elite' pitching, bottom 3rd offense

We are the Mariners from last year. And you know what they did last year? Fired everybody responsible for the offense.

I hope the Walker contract and the Javier & Yordan extensions don't end up just replacing the Abreu, Montero, and LMj salaries

I was actually feeling really good about the direction of the team after the last Home series… Seemed like we were trending in the right direction and then this road trip happened

For the past several seasons, I actually looked forward to road series because it fueled something in the team. We had a "FU" attitude and played better on the road than at home. We had a chip on our shoulder. That seems to have flipped now. Honestly, it's painful to watch this team home or away now.

The Walker contract is starting to worry me. Is this the beginning of his abrue like slide? Or just a slump.

I'm more optimistic on him than Abreu at the same point in his tenure but this is the problem with shopping for free agents in their mid 30's. A guy can fall off a cliff any given season.

Advanced analytics show that Abreu was legally dead for 93 at-bats in 2024.

It's May 6, Walker has played almost every day, and he's got 10 RBI. That's a pace for 48. We all know Jon Singleton could do the same thing, and have several exciting bat flips while saving us $25m.

Astros Bingo Update. Hurray.

On pace for 81 wins
Every single player is now tracking below their square targets except for Jake's average, Pena's HR (19) and steals (24).

Jake's at .301. Altuve down to ..259 now.
Part-time Cam down to 14 HR pace.
Walker charging hard towards a 19 HR, 48 RBI season.

Meanwhile the A's won their 20th game last night in dramatic fashion over the Mariners, and are now on pace for 90 wins.
And their home attendance went UP for once. They are threatening to catch Tampa for next-to-last place.
The Royals shut out the White Sox to get them back on their 116 loss pace.
Shohei homered and is now on a 42/42 HR and SB pace

It could be worse, though
Justin Verlander on pace for 0 wins
Ryan Pressley on pace for 18 saves
Carlos Correa on pace for 5 home runs

I think he's feeling added pressure to contribute because our other run producers aren't picking up any of the slack. Over his last 15, he's hitting .254 with an OPS approaching .800. I think he's getting on track, but could use a little help in the lineup. If we had Yordan and Diaz of last year, Walker's slow start wouldn't be as magnified. But right now, fans are looking at him to carry the load left by others.

another reason why Luhnow = genius...

his older hitter free agent signings...Brantley, McCann, Reddick, et al...

worked out better...and much better in some cases

The team won more, but I am not sure that is always the case outside of Brantley.

2017 Beltran: 76 wRC+, -1.2 WAR
2017-20 Reddick: 105 wRC+, 6.6 WAR (1 great season, 3 avg to below avg seasons)
2017-18 McCann: 96 wRC+, 2.8 WAR
2019-20 Brantley: 132 wRC+, 4.9 WAR (fantastic signing)

We did most of our damage in draft, international signings, trades, and development. FAs made up the smallest amount. Now that the young crop has grown up and left the next (most exited their prime), we have the reply on FA to replace them. We're taking the bigger swings and spending more without getting into mega deals.

Sadly picked up Chad Patrick to stream in fantasy like I should've with Tobias Meyers yesterday.

Hopefully the extra time has Wesneski ready to hold his own tonight.

Reddick had 6 outfield assists in 2017 and 9 assists in 2018

that would be nice right about now

They aren't really big swings. $60M for a free agent bat is nothing these days. If you look at teams that have been built significantly through free agency, they are shopping in the $100+M range. We are spending like a team that is trying to fill in around young players coming up but don't have the farm to support that strategy.
