Haven't been watching as much because of football season, busy at work etc., but I've been sitting on this take for a bit; I desperately think the MLB needs to chop off games from 162.
It'll never, ever happen imo, and I understand why for the most part, but if the MLB really wanted to inject energy, passion, stakes, meaning etc. into these games, they would get rid of 40+ games on the schedule. The energy and detail this team has been playing with for the past three weeks or so is so great to see, but I can't help but think it's mostly brought on by the desperation that each of these games is GIGANTIC if they want to make the playoffs.
I also think some of the guys in the lineup have brought a different energy as well, but most of it I believe comes from being in a dog fight on a night to night basis in order to win, and to replicate that across the regular season more often I think chopping off games and making each mean that much more would help 100x.
Go read the realignment thread on the board, if you haven't already.
Someone posted a Jomboy video of him discussing shortening the schedule, I think by only about six games. But the main point was having a 1st half winner and a 2nd half winner. I think this is a good idea because it gives an incentive to a team that has a rough April and/or May to do better in the 2nd half of the season.
His plan also allows for each league to have a day off every week. The AL on Monday and NL on Thursday.
I'll go to YouTube and see if I can find it a post it here. It is about 30 minutes in length but you can skip the last 5 to 7 minutes.
