Sounds like a new market for somebody if they don't. Although he is the poster child for HGH moreso than steroids with that melon.

I don't know what to make of this.

Did Arlington get a batch of dead balls? Batters eye change? Extra AC units blowing in?

Edit: zoom out. Home runs sucked in 2020 and 2021. 22 and 23 were more outlier years. I wonder if they got special balls those years. They did get caught with "Goldilocks" balls in 2022 for their 50th anniversary. The fact that they had so many career years along with out of the ordinary park factors probably means they did.

MLB is well known for manipulating baseballs for players and teams. And they don't exactly go out of their way to test players in a rigorous way.

I would say the north Texas team got a little of this and a little of that.

Was it both home team and away teams making up the gap? If heavily leaning towards home then I have a theory……

Poor Dubie. Almost made it.

I wonder if the Braves will find a way to get him 400 plate appearances.

We lost Framber and have added no one near his abilities so that is not definitively true. We also have aging players who may well get even worse. Yes returning to just normal health will help but this is likely an 85-87 win team that will be in a similar position to last year.

We lost a declining head case for Framber

Gained Javier
Gained Spaghetti
Maybe Gain Wezneski

I can't imagine Wesneski coming back this season. Our track record with TJ recovery is running more than a year. Close to 1.5 years.

I worry about Arrighetti with him going down late. Have they said anything about his arm? I thought they were talking flexor tendon issues but I don't recall a final answer.
MaxPower

We have no idea what we are getting from two of those guys coming back from TJ. Spaghetti western is nowhere near framber talent wise.

The framber difference is clear. First half ace Framber, 5 game lead in the West. Second half garbage Framber, finish 3 games back. Yeah you lost the guy who sucked the second half but you are also losing a major reason you had that 5 game division lead.

The two additions are likely comparable if not better in terms of value compared to Framber as a whole

And our offseason isn't done yet

I'm not all that concerned

****ing Dodgers. They are now over $1B in deferred salaries.

Come on Rob. Tell us how this is good for the game.

No kidding. It's been frustrating to read about all the free agent signings, especially pitchers. Still waiting for info regarding possible trades involving left handed batters and starting pitching. And hopeful that we resign Caratini. Guess I'm just impatient.

Feels like we spend a lot of effort looking for the perfect deal and usually end up signing the leftovers nobody else was after late in the process. It was understandable to some degree last year as we waited to see what Bregman was going to do, but nobody we are waiting on this offseason unless we think Framber is going to take our QO (he won't).

Framber should have been traded at the deadline. He pitched his way out of an Astro contract in the first half.
Spectacular hindsight, I know.

he was 2 for 2 in doing that with Houston managers

Astros are doing jack squat with free agent signings.

I have a feeling our domination is over.

Sell the team if you don't want to spend money, Crane.

I'm fine with it.

Most of our recent free agent signings have been a terrible waste of money that have held us back from having a more competitive team. I'd rather them try and pick up multiple pieces that fill areas of needs adequately, rather than going after supposed rockstars.

The Astros were top 10 in payroll (maybe top 5). The issue is we haven't exactly hit home runs with recent free agent signings, and the farm is still a wasteland from years of trades and the lost draft picks.

There's tons of offseason left.

I really don't understand the ongoing panic. Crane has never had a problem spending money.
MaxPower

Yeah I think the Red Sox are a pivot team. Do they respect GM Bregman and/or trade for Marte? If they don't get either I see them willing to meet a steep demand for Isaac.

In free agency, Saurez likely waits on Framber since he's basically a poor man's version of that.

Especially since we're looking at trades. We filled up the majority of our free cap space last offseason with Walker and at the deadline with Correa. Even when guys come off the board, we can still make a move. We have ~20 M. We have to be able to have room for the trade piece's salary, plus a few small FA moves to address backup catcher and depth.

Astros are doing jack squat with free agent signings.

I have a feeling our domination is over.

Sell the team if you don't want to spend money, Crane.

There's tons of offseason left.

I really don't understand the ongoing panic. Crane has never had a problem spending money.

No panic here. Just the reality that we have more holes and question marks than pieces to trade or fill them.
I think we see where we're at, and make the trade deadline this summer our turning point if need be.

The problem is not that Crane doesn't spend. It's that he doesn't spend wisely, and gets poor return for where he does spend:
- LMJ
- Montero
- Abreu
- Walker
- Correa (sorry, love the guy, but offensively he's not worth what he's getting paid anymore)
- JV (2020-2021, the egregious farm cost to trading for him in 2023)

20.5-21.5 M for Correa doesn't seem like a bad deal.

3/62.5 for a 31-year-old.
