That's been shared multiple times on here and I'll watch every time.
Ironic watching this then knowing he made that play in Gm 5 of the '22 WS after coming in stone cold for Yuli.
That was a HUGE play.
For sure.
It was at the front of my mind because it just popped up yesterday on my twitter feed and I watch it every damn time. Probably my favorite thing on social media is seeing/hearing great players and coaches talk about their drills, routines, and mental approach to the game (really any game).
Frankly, taking some of those lessons about how some of these guys were coached by their dads and the messaging has been huge for me and my boys.
Like, I'll 100% own up to having been the ******** sports dad in the past. My brother, sister, and I were all D1 athletes and we're all really competitive personalities. But, our parents were never athletes and they really didn't push us. In fact, my old man will tell you he thought we'd be lucky to play varsity sports when we were younger. When I started getting recruited he went to my HS coach and asked him, "is this real or is it BS?"
Anyway, I have that intense mentality and was too hard in the wrong way with my boys. Mostly my older one because by the time the younger one started I had flipped my mentality. And frankly, my mentality was more suited to football than baseball which was the sport I excelled at. I was a mediocre HS baseball player but a D1 football player so it makes sense.
Don't get me wrong, we're still demanding but the focus is on process and approach not the outcome. And the standard line is that "our commitment will match your commitment." So we don't force either one to play and nor do we force them to do any extra work. It's all their responsibility to do it but they also know to not complain about PT if they don't put in the work.
