We need a contender to have their corner INF injured in the first few weeks of camp or no trade will be made. Ouch.

Hader did not have surgery for the shoulder capsule strain he suffered in August. It doesn't sound like the current bicep inflammation is related, but maybe...

Sounds like throw bullpens and play winter ball.

Non-Astros related, but -- another one -- or two.

At least the fans of AZ and BAL know its a hamate.

They should thank their lucky stars its not a case of "my hand hurts" where the player is gone all season and no one knows why.

Hand soreness for 3/4 of a season with imaging done 1/2 way through....

Based on recent history with this team, I fully expect this issue to linger on for at least half the season if not more... damn.

That "If we just stand still and hope everybody stays healthy, 2026 will be way better than 2025!" strategy looks to be starting off on somewhat less than solid ground...

I feel like some of these guys see what Rendon has done… and want to emulate that.

GTFO

I can't speak for these other teams and their injuries but I don't buy that this attitude exists at all on this team.

Hader pitched a ton last year including multiple back to backs
Isaac passed on surgery so he could come back for the stretch run at like 75%
Altuve has played banged up in the playoffs multiple years

You just can't convince me that is a real thing in this clubhouse.

I know some of it is social media and the need to report everything as soon as possible, but it sure does seem like guys get shut down nowadays for every little bump, bruise and strain.

Has this always been the case in spring training and we just didn't hear about it? Are players coddled today? A little of both?

Maybe. See also Tucker his last year here.

Note: I didn't say Astros players.

If Bryant is emulating Rendon he must be doing it really quietly because by all accounts he's a good dude who's been trying to get healthy. But, with the back, once it's really hurt it's really difficult to recover to a level necessary to perform at the MLB level.

Tucker is 100% a piker and malingerer. Did it here in 2024 and probably did it again in 2025 too.

it's the hazard that comes with rising salaries and mega-contracts

some players' level of effort will not be impacted by a current (or future) large annual guaranteed salary

but some players will -- hopefully not too many

Some players also struggle with the pressure of living up to the contract they sign, especially when joining a new team.

IIRC he pissed all of his teammates off when he was removed for a defensive substitution.

He'd actually be a decent ball player if he could take a walk every now and again. He's got a career OPS near 800 even if it has trended down lately

Padres didn't give up much, though I guess they have to pay Castellanos.
