In 2025, the Astros had the most injured roster in MLB, and still finished 87-75, 3 games out of first.

2009 and 2026 are not even comparable in terms of the players in the organization and how it's not guaranteed tanking gets you the same draft picks we were able to get.

2009 didn't have Pena, Hunter brown, Altuve, Hader, Correa and Yordan.

We have the pieces to put together a good season and make an ALCS run

This doesn't make sense to me. Get rid of Caratini who can bat from both sides and play 1B if absolutely necessary to save 0-$1 million on a guy who is 3 years older and can't hit to save his life.

Coby Mayo could be of interest. He's only gotten 340 ABs over two years in the majors. He hit nearly .280 in the minors and is only 24. He also has good power., and he can play 3B. I think if the price is right, I'd trade for him

Mountcastle can play anywhere in the IF, and he's ok. He's just a role player or utility guy, IMO. So, I'd pass.

I can agree. I just see a worrisome trend. And the leadership of the organization seems to be in extend and pretend mode. The decisions we would have made 5-10 years ago are not the same decisions we seem to be making today. But yall are right that this team does still have pretty high end potential. Hopefully it comes together this year.

Cavan Biggio is a leftie and can play 7 positions poorly

Real shame though, he was allstar caliber in his first two partial seasons and then tanked

It's fine, Parades seems like he could be flexible shifting around different positions (1B, 3B, DH)....I would love it if he could even play LF at least at home, or even 2B because I seriously can't imagine he's worse than Altuve there.

With all those positions available, being an "everyday" starter isn't really an issue. What's a bigger issue is the egos of Pena, Correa, Walker that all magically expect to play 162 games without any sort of injuries or setbacks...rest days are important.

IMHO the absolute *worst* thing we can do is trade Parades just because of a perceived logjam and because he provides the most trade value. Of course he does. Question is, what do we get in return that can replace his offensive ability? Nothing on the market that I can see.

Sometimes the best decision is to do nothing at all. If the logjam is perceived as that big of a problem, there is somebody out there willing to take on Christian Walker for $8M/yr while we pay down $12M/year.

I really hope Dana doesn't get lost in the sunk cost fallacy here.
