Does it feel to anyone else like the challenge system is really going to fray umpire-batter / umpire-catcher relationships? Seems like every time a player gets a call overturned, they're going to be hard pressed not to lord it over the ump, and possibly vice versa.

Umpires and hitters at least both seem to have very fragile egos. Seems like ejections might be on the rise, especially as stats start being tabulated on which umpires have the worst challenge percentages.

There already is a challenge system on plays in the field. Have you seen it happening over the last several years?

And the fact that pitchers think everything is a strike.

Framber will use up both team challenges in the first inning unless Hinch puts a muzzle on him.

So if the catcher calls for a curve down and in to a RHH and Framber throws a fastball smoking the catcher in the chest and the HP umpire is so confused that he calls it a ball, will Framber appeal?

Either that or he will throw one at the umpire's head.

And then immediately challenge the umpire for calling it a ball.

I could see that but what I HOPE happens is the sub-par umpires (of which there are plenty) will get so embarrassed that they'll start to slowly adjust their zones to avoid being called out constantly. It's the classic negative reinforcement technique.

I also hope the ones who refuse to adjust become so humiliated they decide to retire early to avoid the constant ridicule. To be honest, this is the more likely scenario...at least I'm hoping for that outcome.

I've always said that what they need to do is officially track umpire missed call stats and show them on the TV broadcasts.

When you show the umpire crew names on TV they'll each have a missed call percentage next to their name. When a call is challenged while it's being reviewed the stats are shown on TV.

Shlt we all already know what umps are the worst. Lets put some numbers to it and show it on TV.

Sister in law could also mean his wife's sister.

And while I don't condone it, if that's what happened, that's pretty impressive.

They used it in the Fall League. I went to 14 games and the home plate umpire's call was upheld the majority of the time.

MLB is broken competitively. I don't care if an entire season is lost when there is a work stoppage. The players can pound sand. There needs to be more significant salary boundaries to alter the path of this league careening into a circus.

I want Altuve to be able to get to 3,000 hits more than I want to watch the 2027 season.

Then he's in line for an even bigger ass whooping.

I would prefer that they just have a relegation system. Somebody online will be able to track their accuracy stats, so we will know whether they broadcast them or not. But I want them to take the bottom 10% in accuracy every year and demote them to AAA and promote the top 10% in accuracy every year from AAA to MLB. Do the same for AAA to AA and AA to A and we could have had Angel Hernandez calling A ball by his 4th anniversary.

The fact that the Dodgers have 3X the odds of winning compared to its closest competitor just reinforces how out of whack baseball is.

Yup.

And it's not that other teams can't up their spending, a lot of them can. The issue is that with their endless well of cash the Dodgers can afford to make mistakes or lose guys to injury and not skip a beat because they can eat the losses on that contract and just go sign another guy. They don't care.

Off topic, but I am confused about the new Space City Plus streaming service.

I think I would be good, but I wanted to see what y'all think. If you are living in Corpus Christi, you should still be able to view all of the games through the streaming service subscription right?

I just want to make sure they won't be blocked before I purchase the subscription.

I found this on the SCHN+ website:

"Blackouts are contractual rules that prevent us from showing certain games. This typically occurs when a game is broadcast exclusively on a national network, such as ESPN or TNT. If a game is blacked out, it will not be available to stream on the SCHN+ app."

What are blackout restrictions on SCHN+? : SCHN+ Support

.

Corpus is in the Astros regional territory (as is all of Texas plus most of Louisiana, Ark, OK). So you should be able to see all of the regional games that appear on SCHN. You won't get any of the national exclusive games via that subscription, though.

MLB's TV and streaming situation is so FUBAR.

It feels like baseball has had a very real post-covid resurgence but Manfred and his merry band of idiots are intent on pissing it away and turning off fans by making it difficult to watch on TV.
