I have to admit, I'm not all in on a fire sale. How many teams have tried it and been successful? The Orioles are among many teams that tried to play that game and never made it to the top of the mountain. Personally I'd rather be mediocre with stars like Yordan than trade away anyone worth watching in the hope of catching lightning in a bottle.

I'm all in on moving on from Espada, but I just can't buy in to the fire sale mentality.

I get it, and I don't pretend to have the answers. I was on Team Earley last year until The Missouri Disaster, and then firmly in the camp that we needed to make the quick change. Clearly, it's working ok this year.

I just don't see how the 2026 Astros can be competitive. Our best starters not including the IL would have been 4th or 5th in the rotation in prior years. We have a couple trade pieces but we need so much I don't know how feasible it would be.

Altuve for life, of course. He can play here as long as he wants. I'm open to all other offers, provided a competent GM is making the tough decisions.

Personally I want to sign Yordan to a second contract and build around Cam, and whoever can make it up from A-ball in a couple of years.

By the end of their contracts both Tuve and CC should be hitting in the mid-bottom of the lineup (you would think) and it'll be something watching the team build a new top half of the order.

If Yordan and Tuve retire as Astros (& potential HOFers) I'll be happy. Baseball is cyclical. The point will be building the next contender, but I don't think the full roster will be turned over any time soon.

What years are you referring to for the Orioles? They were good 2013-2016 but I don't recall them trading anybody big away, at least not until they were in the suck for a couple years. They just had natural attrition of stars due to free agency and age.

I get your argument and I could buy into why you keep Yordan specifically but I don't buy your theory that being mediocre a few years turns into being good. It's just as likely we are mediocre for several years then garbage when Yordan, HB, etc leave.

If we are still this crappy in June there's 0 reason to keep anyone who is a free agent after 2027. You either extend guys or trade them because this year is a wash and you have minimal flexibility in payroll or tradeable farm assets to believe you will turn it around next year either.

I just feel like nobody should have to go to the mound to tell a guy with an 11-3 lead to throw strikes and quit walking people. If he had a 98 mph fastball he could throw for strikes in his pocket, why was he F-ing around throwing 91 mph meatballs? Our collective baseball IQ as a team has to be near the bottom of the league.
