This should be an interesting series of teams in somewhat similar situations. I will also be interested to see Bennett pitch for them tonight as I think he's a potential trade target.

I was kind of surprised by this. Paredes and Altuve have been below average but the biggest culprit has been Yainer. I expect some inherent improvement when Pena comes back and CC shifts back to 3B but this certainly isn't helping our pitching.

ASTROS BINGO UPDATE 5-1-26

Well, thankfully nobody picked Astros in first at the end of April as a square. Three people did pick 1st place at the end of May, so let's get the win streak started!

ALL THINGS YORDAN: Here are Yordan's paces after a month and change: 127 runs, 61 HR, 137 RBI, 440 total bases, slash of .356/.737/.462.
Only 4 players have recorded 440+ total bases in a season. The last time it happened was Chuck Klein's 445 in 1930 when had 59 doubles, 8 triples, 40 HR and hit .386. He's the least known of the four. You've probably heard of the others:

Babe Ruth, 457, 1921: 44 doubles, 16 triples, 59 HR, hit .378.
Rogers Hornsby, 450, 1922: 46 doubles, 14 triples, 42 HR, hit .401
Lou Gehrig, 447, 1927: 52 doubles, 18 triples, 47 HR, hit .373.
Yordan is on pace for 61 HR and 46 doubles

The high-water point for total bases in the 21st century is Sammy Sosa's 425 in 2001. The last AL player to reach 400 was Jim Rice in 1977.

SIGNS OF LIFE: Yanier has the average up to .250! Cam hits his 4th homer and is on pace for a very solid 20. Paredes is up to a 76 RBI pace. Walker is on pace for 35 HR and 122 RBI. Altuve is on pace for 101 runs scored. If he hits that mark - he's currently scored 20 - he could climb from 151st to 115th all-time in runs scored.

SIGNS OF DEATH: Much like when C3PO disappears in Cloud City, no one has seen or has any idea what happened to Joey Baseball. You go on the IL for the Astros and 4 months later maybe they remember you exist.

EXTREMES: Astros are on pace to score 851 runs, 151 above the square of 700. Team ERA is back to 6.08, 2.22 runs above the 3.86 barrier.

GEORGE IS BACK: Springer finally got off the IL for the Blue Jays, who are an agonizing 14-17 after winning the AL last. George had 2 RBI the other night and is now "on pace" for a whopping 37. Hope he stays healthy for a while.

Team ERA of 6.08 and team WHIP of 1.64.

Either would be top of the list since 1962. Both together? That's an awe inspiring daily double that should be applauded.

This pitching isn't getting any better. In fact it's getting worse.

the Astros have only won series against:

Red Sox (12-19) at home
Rockies (14-18) at home
Guardians (16-16) on road

and split a series vs. Angels (12-20) at home

I did a Zoom call today with a guy I might write a fictional baseball book with. The guy is a Red Sox fan in his late 70s. When he was 59, his son paid for him to go to Red Sox Fantasy Camp. The guy had been a knuckleballl pitcher in high school and could still throw it in his 50s. On the last day of the camp, he got to throw an inning in a game vs. the Red Sox former players working the camp. His manager was Chad Epperson who just got named interim third-base coach for the Sox.

At age 59, he struck out Bill "Spaceman" Lee and some minor league catcher, and got Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd to pop up for a hitless inning.

At the banquet that night, he asked all three guys to sign a baseball with the words "0-for-1 vs (the guy's name)" for him to keep. When Lee gave him the ball back, he had signed it, "Bill Lee, 0-for-1 vs. some bulls&&T fake curveball".
