So far - none. Georgia shows the one player so far as well.

…apparently it's a package deal with Joni and her husband. I guess we will see……

In what capacity? Did he have an actual job at UGA?

I really like this hire, though not much of a WBB fan.

Joni's credentials are not as good as Blair's were when he was hired. So I'm disappointed with this hire and fear we will lose to the 'sips, LSU, and SC for years to come.

I hope I'm wrong.

I think you are wrong. If you watched the press conference today, she is the right hire for this team and the university. It will translate on the court. She's a winner. 100% She has connections, her husband has connections, she's well liked and respected, she can recruit, she knows the game and her circle is tight. Give her the same respect and time we gave coach Blair.

Almost everyone thinks he is wrong. And VERY few seem disappointed in this hire.

So do I!! Loved all that she said this morning at intro celebration and presser. No doubt, she's the real deal. She's been my favorite SEC coach for the past couple of years outside of Gary, of course. Just never imagined she would leave Georgia. Kudos to Ross for making it happen! I'm ready for the season to start today!

Joni is a home run hire who checks all the boxes. She was on my very short list that I posted here months ago.
She will give Vic strong competition for the best players in Texas. No need for any of them to go out of state..

Congratulations to Joni Taylor and her family as the new leaders of Texas A&M Women's Basketball. I am so very excited about this new hire. TAMU women's basketball team is my second favorite team to root for, just behind my beloved TAMU football and also the men's basketball teams. A die hard Aggie since fall 1977, i am so excited about the new direction of the program. I remember how each year the Georgia teams were getting more successful the last years. My initial memory of Georgia was in the 2011 tournament when we wiped them out by over 30 points enroute to winning the National Championship. I've remembered Coach Taylor the past years, especially the year she was doing the toughest of tough jobs of coaching while bearing a child in womb. She's beautiful as a coach, a mother, and a person. Those of you who are seeking to complain about her record, perhaps you should just consider the stresses on a brand new, young mother and coach of a major woman's sports teams. In my opinion, there is NO other job in the world more important than being a young wife and mother. It is from this relationship that the whole world evolves around. For to have a good society in the world today, we need that basic family unit of a happily married man and wife taking care of their baby for the future of great citizenship. As God's greatest blessings to a young man and woman is the gift of a baby to share in the family life.
Yes you can call me old fashioned and a religious zealot all you want. I spend a lot of time studying my Bible for the last 62 years of my life. You won't hurt my feelings. Family life id important in a functional society.
I hope that those who think Joni's record should have more tournament wins, that perhaps you should just think about the difficulty and intensity of a young family with young babies fighting the outside world. And then give the basketball coach, the new mother of two babies who require a lot of attention in the middle of the nights the first 2-3 years, the new wife, and the other many, many roles of a coach at a major university some slack. I bet you 10 bucks her adjustments at halftime are going to be phenomenal in the next year or years as will her drawn up plays. Time and experience make a BIG difference in the lives of coaches. I have 100 percent faith Joni will be magnificent. TAMU has too many resources for her not to be! It's going to be a ride watching the future teams!!!
I find it offensive to me as a coach for people who have never coached a team in their lifetime to criticize young coaches based strictly on their won/loss column. There is so much to learn in those inital days and years. Yet if a woman waits too long to bear children, it may never happen for that coach, wife, and want-to-be mother! As a woman who made her first and most important career the raising of my four stepchildren and my own two children, now 38 years later, I can honestly say i made the right choice to make family priority number one. I still had a physical therapy career even now.

I don't know Coach Taylor personally, but i am so excited to get my season tickets as soon as possible.

May God's greatest blessings be lavished on the Taylor family and everyone in their whole family. May God Bless the Aggie women's basketball players, coaches, staff, supporting casts and everyone that is involves in the future Aggie Women's basketball future schedules. I will be at Reed watching you. Hoping I'm fortunate enough to get to see a repeat of Indianapolis year 2011 in early Aprill. I'll never forget being at the final four tournament to experience the national championship first hand. Unforgettable!

Coach Taylor will get us there. I have no doubt.

For the naysayers or those 2 percenters riding the pine, loosen up. Get behind Joni. She deserves our support. She certainly deserves better support than our beloved Gary Blair got. Hopefully we can fill the seats to the rafters and break attendance records sometime in the near future.
Be positive and optimistic!! Let's cheer both our basketball teams to new heights each and every year, now and yonder into the future. Gig 'em Aggies!! '82

My parents both served in ministry since college and before. I urge believers to be bold, but I would be careful about the straw man fallacy in your comment. God is God whether we read the Bible and our only righteousness is imputed and then through the work of the Holy Spirit sanctifying us until we are made perfect images (the Greek is "eikon") of Jesus.

I was impressed how Coach Taylor framed her faith expressing dependency on God and his grace and on community prayer for each other. We certainly can and should support her and her faith should offer courage not sanctimony to those who might not agree with her. She expressed graciousness and gratitude to Coach Blair and to those bringing her to College Station. We can only faithfully support her by reflecting her values.

My hope is that her values on the court reflect her faith as well including:

"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." https://esv.org/Phil3.14

But in this life we are still training and striving for that prize which will not be awarded at least until the race is finished.

Who did you realistically want us to hire?

There is a thread on exactly this and she wasn't on anyone's radar. She may do well. Hope she does.

The question of who do we want? Have to look at women's college basketball. It looks like there are 8 plus or minus "farm clubs" that act as stepping stones to the WNBA and then there is the rest. Without knowing exactly what sacrifices a school has to make to become one of those types of programs, I would have liked us to try to become one of them. One crucial step in that would be to hire a coach (or assistant) from one of those schools. A coach that knows what the school has to provide and be willing to allow in order to turn the program around. Again, I don't know exactly what is required and A&M may not even want to be a part of it. Mulkey said a long time ago, she didn't think A&M would allow her to do what she needs to coach here. You can guess what that means.

It's all about recruiting the elite talent that wants/has a chance to get to the WNBA. Then fill in around them. Our new coach will have to recruit against farm clubs like Baylor, Sips (Vic turning them into one), and now LSU, which is what Mulkey is going to do with them. Add OU to the mix, along with Alabama and Miss St who seem to allow what is needed. USCE has become one of those schools. Tennessee used to be. The rest (schools) are just going to fight for 3rd or 4th in the conf and a year here or there in the NCAA tourney.

On the other hand (something to look for), I heard the new coach's husband works for a pro team. Maybe that can somehow play a role in recruiting.

Good luck to her. Time to support her and move on.

Baylor is not going to be what they used to be now that Mulkey is gone. Look for coach Taylor to start winning those recruiting battles, and probably a lot of the recruiting battles between A&M and Vic. She had the #7 recruiting class before she left Georgia this year. I don't think we've been close to the top 10 for a quite a while. Greg - correct me if I'm wrong. What I think makes a tremendous impact on a program is the head coach's involvement with USA basketball and the channels she connects to through the WNBA and beyond. That will draw talent in. Success is important, too. With positions on the court being more fluid and not having a standard PG, SG, Forward, Center setup, the more athletic recruits are going to look in her direction. Looking forward to seeing what she provides. From what I can tell, it looks like the administration knew they needed to hire someone that could recruit and who could recruit fast. They also know, in many cases, the talent follows the coach bc they are committing to a coach, not necessarily a school anymore.

once OU and the sips leave, the B12 is gonna be cupcake league, so BU will be able to load up on wins. So that'll be an advantage BU will have.

I think you're spot on on the USA Basketball stuff

I don't trust the fairly well researched football recruiting rankings. I might not follow wbb's (or mbb's) at all. I remember a #2 ranked class with three players when UConn WBB got a #1 with two players I think with Brianna Stewart. Basketball is so star-centric that it hurts both men's and wimen's. And I don't mean number of stars.

Edit: I hate spell mangle…
