Loving the defensive effort!
Like the pressure defense, don't like all the missed free throws.
A few easy observations.
1) Fats Janneh!
2) Ny'Ceara Pryor is going to put up some numbers - sure points and assists as our PG but she also had 5 rebounds in 1H.
3) Defensive intensity is up like 4 notches from last year

We are better…at a minimum than the Islanders…
We're going to have to work on stopping dribble penetration while cutting players off with angles instead of riding their hip and we need to work on making FTs but liking the energy so far.
Pryor has been exciting! A true point guard. Crazy how that helps everything flow!

Just catching up on some of our players, Pryor led the nation last year in steals per game.

TSwift watches all games. To be fair, for every minute of good there was a minute or two of bad. But better than losing to them like last year. Still a lot to be seen. Might break .500 this year. If you watched the game, you probably didn't walk away excited. Maybe satisfied, but not excited
It was miles better than game 1 last year. Has potential. Last year had ZERO potential from the start and we all knew if.

Yeah what part of the game do you want to discuss? I even watched all of Corpus' game on Monday and knew said we would win by 30-40. This was against a Corpus team that was down their two best players and who only a handful of them have averaged more than 5 minutes a game at low tier division 1 schools or junior colleges...
This team looked improved, but it's hard to gauge anything versus a team that will most likely be in the 300's, Massey has them at 265 to open the season. I'm really excited in Fats and I hope her athleticism can translate against more physical and bigger post players in SEC play. I love Pryor's heart and motor but she's struggled mightily in any game she's ever played against a big school. We don't have ball handling outside of Pryor and I don't think this team has depth whatsoever, especially at the post.
I was very impressed with the effort and tenacity on defense. It's year 4 and why are we barely seeing this type of energy and effort. This is what pisses me off the most. We may be less talented than most SEC teams, but I hope that effort and motor remains. This attitude on defense can carry us forward. These girls seem to have chemistry and a drive we haven't had here under Joni Taylor. But we're in the SEC, not the Southland. We stupidly scheduled 9 non conference games, so we'll need to go at a minimum .500 or better in conference play to sniff the bubble.
We have a whole week off before Tarleton next Thursday, Tarleton plays 2 games before then. They should be a bit better than Corpus and seem to be more well rounded. Then it's a top 25 matchup against Kansas State that will be the real test.
The first 5 that started had the most chemistry and energy. Lots of experience on the floor with that group.

We have to pray we stay healthy up top with those 5. Then Joni needs to find 3-4 off the bench cause it drops off significantly. Managing Ware and Fats minutes in these meaningless cupcake games will be vital cause we need them both desperately without solid height on the bench. Kent will be better coming off the bench in a 3 spark plug kind of role and I think Webster will get better as the season progresses. We'll need art least one of them or Lemyah to be connecting form 3 in a game. Now it's who else will step up. Steenbergen or Parker, both?
We will win on energy and effort and in transition. Half court offense didn't look great and I don't think I saw anyone that looked natural beyond the arc. We made some 3s but they weren't natural looking shots to me. Also, we don't really have a post that will cause any issues down low. That's a problem. Ware will defend but not really any scorers down low that will cause the top half of the conference issues. (Yet)

I was also multicasting 3 other volleyball games to keep an eye for my bracketology thread in the volleyball forum as Jamie's group looks to be in contention to host the first and second rounds of the tournament, while also watching MACTION! Did you watch the game or are you just on auto pilot attacking me for the past 5+ years across multiple forums instead of ever providing anything to this board lol???
Pien has a natural looking shot. She might be someone that can cause issues if she gets hot.

Exactly my thoughts and concerns, I'm hoping maybe Fats will be able to stretch the floor to possibly open up lanes for Pryor and others. But we'll need some shooters to step up. Possibly Hylton, her shot looked the best and maybe Kent can slide into a 3 point shooter off the bench. Pick and roll will be our best option and something we need to run a lot of before conference play. We're gonna need to attack the offensive glass and play pesky defense to create turnovers and chaos.
9/27 from 3 is solid, especially for game 1. But our offense will need to get into the paint a lot more and maybe take less three's but better more efficient three's. Ball movement was there at times. Just not sure any SEC team will have to go zone on us. That's why Kansas State should be interesting
I'm happy for the team and staff. Let's pray this is the start of building something solid.

I was in attendance like I have been for nearly every home game for the past 21 years. I was impressed with the cohesion this early in the season by players who didn't know each other a few months ago. I was also encouraged by the hustle of everyone who played, unlike the past 2 seasons. There was very little slow -walking the ball up the court and barely making the 10 sec clock. there was very little standing around waiting for someone else to do something instead of making it happen. We apparently finally have a point guard who can handle the ball as well as shoot when she needs to. Hylton and Kent played well and Fats is going to be a special player in my opinion, the likes of which we haven't seen in years.
I am finally excited about a women's Aggie basketball team since this coach took over and the very last thing I would have thought as I exited Reed was " this is going to be a long season."
So yeah, I watched it.
This team is different. It's obvious on and off the court. Theres still room to grow, as there should be, but I think theres a lot more potential.
Some of you forget previous years or did I just imagine that we actually played defense and might see the value in a rebound?
