Picked up golf 2 yrs ago and the journey has been a rollercoaster.
1st yr youtube taught, disclaimer - DO NOT do this. Thought I was doing everything right but looking back, did lots of things wrong. When hit well, Driver 200 yd, 7 iron 130 yd. Par 5s just happy if I could chip for a par put. Par 5s was just daunting trying to string 5 good shots for par. Hitting in the 100's on a good day.
2nd yr got a golf coach - DO this from the start. 1st 6 months felt like I was getting worse as everything I did was wrong. Trying to fix bad habits is not the way to start. Last 2 months, distance farther with less effort. Driver 230 yd carry regularly. Par 4 260yd, drove onto the green. Last round, Par 5 470 yd, driver went 245 and 3 wood hit 2 feet from the greens. Short chip, putt for birdie. 1st year, would have been a dream to have any chance at an eagle chip.
Currently low 90s but regularly have front or back 9s in the low 40's. My goal is to be in the mid-high 80's consistently. Very close, and 3 puts/short game holding me back which I prob lose 10 shots easy turning many birdie putts into bogies. Short game is my next focus. Golf round now has many decent shots for birdie and one bad shot doesn't seal my double bogey fate.
