I drove by an old golf course (Northridge in San Antonio) today that has closed down. It got me thinking about how many courses I've played that have since shutdown. Here's my list:

-Golf Club of McKinney (former member and had an ace there)

-Bryan Muni

-Bluebonnet Country Club

-The Broadmoor- Mountain Course

-The Republic

-State Park in Bastrop

What's on your list of closed courses?

Edit: added Bastrop

World Houston site of my only ace back when I only had played for a few years. Sliced an iron that rolled up on the green and in. Sure wish I could get one now.

Bridgewqter. Club in Florida that was the text book on mismanagement. Great layout. Very "links" like in central Florida. Opened in 2006 right before the crash. Someone screwed up their occupancy permit so only members (me) could play a pristine course. There were only a few hundred of us so I could play around in about 2:15. Almost always played 27.

Opened in 2007 to public/daily fee. No clubhouse and high rates (well above others in the area). Hemorrhaged cash. Fight with homeowners (none on the course but shared the property). Closed "temporarily " and sued by HOA.

Dead and now mostly warehouses. So sad.

I'm from the area. Twin Lakes. Gorgeous course and lots of great memories there. The story there is, after the big Canton tornadoes in April 2017, there was a provision in the law that a landowner could immediately reclassify property taxes to Ag after a disaster like that, instead of doing the gradual phase in (I think it normally takes 10 years?). So the owners took advantage of that. Great pro at the time, Randy Wade, he is now at the Tempest in Gladewater which is a similar course, daily fee but very nice property. Randy had a great junior program and my kids learned golf from him. Just a solid gold guy and the Tempest is worth a trip out to Gladewater.

Periodically I will drive out there. Seeing it as just pastureland with cows all over it makes me ill. I remember in June of 17, getting the email that they were closing and it was a real gut punch.

Twin Lakes was a fantastic course. Arguably the best course in the state for the price. I LOVED playing it.

Opening tee shot on #1 was gorgeous. The short par 3 with the three tiered green was a ***** if you were above the hole. #18 was a great finishing hole.

Just a beautiful, well kept challenging course, but also fair and open off the tee.

Houston Hills!!!
Sugar Hills
Lots of the other Houston area ones listed.
Some crappy par 3 on highway 6, near westpark.
Is the crappy par three on the northeast side of 6 in college station closed? Behind the car dealership?

Edit - Looking at the map, it appears that it is gone. I guess add it to the list.

Soon to be Inidian Shores in Crosby, TX.

Ruors are swirling and houses are going for sale all along the course. It is a terrible golf course, but budget friendly !

Greensworld! Was a lighted course as well. Was a bad track but cheap and fun

Played a couple of spring high school tournaments at Sleazy Hollow back in the day. The mosquitoes were so bad our white shirts were polka dot at the end of the round.

Knew Trinity Forest would be a bust when they announced they were building it essentially across the street from the Sleepy Hollow location.

Southwestern University Campus Course

I think it was called Kurth-Landrum. Was a 9 hole course while I was growing up then around 2000 it switched to only a 6 hole and then finally they got rid of it. Had many a summers where my brother and I were dropped off there and told to play as many rounds as we could. It was pretty much a goat track with some of the smallest postage stamp sized greens I've ever played on.

Mulligans off of Jones Rd in Houston… it was a driving range, lit par 3 course and a gun store… interesting mix.

Eaglequest par 3 course in Kingwood. That was actually a legit par 3 course with a pretty good weekly money game.
