Isn't this course still open ? I used to love this course when I was growing up. The HGA even had a junior golf tournament there every year when I was in high school. I'll never forget Mark Bennett canning about a 60 footer in a 5 person playoff for first place one summer. Took that trophy back to Madisonville !!.....Actually, it was a plaque to hang on the wall. The HGA gave plaques not trophies back then in their Jr. tournaments.....

The course is still there but it's no longer maintained or operated as a golf course as I understand it. There are still people who occasionally hit balls, though. It's still visible on Google Maps.

Agree with all you said, but I think they now have over 500 members. Lots of guys in the downtown area that can't get in anywhere else have gone there.

Local course here in KC closed down and a developer is putting up a bunch of apartments and condo's.

The people with $800k-$1M homes that back up to the course are thrilled.

City council of course rubbers stamped the developers plans.

It's located adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa, so it seems to make sense.

There is a neighborhood on top of the course I learned to play golf on. Old CC that just couldn't keep members.

Phenomenal course in the 90s and until 2004-2005. First course I ever played as a kid since my grandparents lived on the course. Really a shame it was bought by a Chinese businessman who let it go to ***** The neighborhood has improved over the last 10 years.

I used to be a member at Wolfdancer. That's the name people associate with that course. The Hyatt people are really good marketers, so I'm sure they know what they're doing.

There were four courses in the city of Bastrop area. Lost Pines Golf Club at the Bastrop State Park (a WPA era 9 holer that added another 9 before it closed.)

Pine Forest Golf Club, a formerly private (now public) course on the Colorado - it's been there since 1979.

Colovista - developed by Les Appelt, '41. It also started out as private but when Les died, it was a big mess and I believe is now a Billy Casper managed course that's public.

Wolfdancer, a part of the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa property, is the last of the group. Apparently, the name Wolfdancer has been retired and it's new name is Lost Pines Golf Club - taking the name of the former State Park course.

Clear as mud, right?

gotcha. The name change of Wolfdancer to Lost Pines was what was throwing me off. Didnt know it changed names until now. I've got family from the area so I play those courses quite a bit. Plan on playing Sunday as a matter of fact at either colo or Pine Forest.

Yeah, I lived in Elgin for 34 years so I got to play them all fairly regularly. I know the name change is probably going to confuse some folks who knew the State Park course name is now the Wolfdancer name. I'm sure the Hyatt folks would have loved to name it that when it opened, but the State Park was still open, so they came up with Wolfdancer. Fun but sometimes brutal track.

I agree, when it's in good shape it is awesome, but i've been out there before where it wasn't worth anything near what they were charging. Haven't been there since they opened the new holes. Hopefully I can make it out there soon and see how they are.

As a 28 year old Dentonite, I really don't remember the UNT course, but man, I really miss that TWU course. It was the perfect ****ty and awesome course. They still have half the land that hasn't been touched after they put in the dorms and intramural fields

Amazingly I'm gonna add a Texas course that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Las Palomas in La Vernia

Played that course a ton while I was at Texas Lutheran from 98-02

I on a whim pulled into lost pines on my way to Austin in December and played. Course was in great shape and was a ton of fun, also was a mid week day so it was wide open

Raveneaux
Heron Lakes
Treeline Golf Club
World Houston/H&H Ranch

I'm sure there are many more

It sucks because the two courses I played growing up were Raveneaux and tree line.

What was the golf course at Telge and Spring Cypress? I played out there in like 93 and can't remember the name.

I played a course called Tennwood way back in the late 70's - early 80's. I think it was owned by Tenneco Energy at the time. Is it still open? Been re-named?

Pretty sure Telge at Cypresswodd was the Trunkline Gas course at that compressor station. You can still see it with satellite view on Google maps

yeah you can still see cart paths and everything. I played with a friend in high school and it was some type of private course owned by a company. Maybe it was Trunkline, but couldn't remember the name.

It was Trunkline. My Mom worked there so I played it a few times.

I posted this on another thread about a month ago. I loved Old Orchard and it was in our standard rotation back in the early 2000s. I played it on the last day and was one of the last groups to finish. I still remember how beautiful the sunset was coming through the trees on 18. It was the kind of scene that is hard to find in Houston.

I left with the flag and it hangs in my garage. I think I gave the pro $40 for it. I used to have the scorecard too but it's lost somewhere. Played well that day.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

For those of you from N. Austin, anyone play Spicewood, the second course at Balcones Country Club? It was up on a hill off of 71. Had some good views and a few odd holes. They closed it down maybe 15 years ago. Dad was a member there in the 90s.

Pretty sure the back 9 at Balcones is nine of those holes.

But I could be wrong. I play there with a friend a few times a year.

No, those are two separate, 18-hole courses. Spicewood is about a mile or so further from 71 than Balcones. The front and back mines at Balcones definitely have different character, though.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this one, there was a course in Houston called Texaco Country Club. I think out on Hwy 90, but I may be wrong about the location. Played that course a few years back, it is long gone. Anyone else play this course? or famiiliar with it?

One question: when people say Bluebonnet, is that in Navasota or Manor/Austin? I had my HIO on #4 in Manor. RIP.

I think most are referring to the Navasota course. A lot of us played there when we were in school.

I was definitely referring to the one across from Decker Lake, Bluebonnet Hills. Nobody said "hills" though

Played Texaco CC back in 1980 at a Houston Junior Golf Association tournament. It was out on Hwy 90, but not really memorable unlike some of the other country clubs we got to play.

I also played Brock Park in the late 70's, and I believe it is closed now as well.

I am in the process of identifying all golf courses that have existed within 100 miles of Houston in the past 100 years - all those that still exist as well as all those that have closed. As a TAMU graduate in Agronomy in 1976, I have worked in the golf course business in this area for almost 50 years (as a GC Supt as well as consultant) I have begun compiling my list and would look forward to having an audience that could review my list as well as add courses. As an old guy, my tech skills ain't great- but I'm good at texting, faxing, and mailing!! LOL Let me know how I can be a part of this thread

They closed "The Point" 9 holes at Atascocita. It used to be 27, then closed. Then re-opened, now down to 18 again.
