But look at JT's Ryder Cup record and you want a proven partner team that can compete in the big moments at the Ryder Cup in Jordan and JT. It's a no brainer to pick JT over Glover for the Ryder Cup.

He had a proven majors record until this year too

I will take the guy who has won a PGA and Players in the past 2 years to be on the Ryder Cup every time.

I know there is strategy to the Ryder Cup, but sometimes I think we way overthink this stuff. It's golf. Take your hot hands and go whip the Euros.

It isn't that simple when playing overseas and the US team hasn't won there in 30 years. It is about using the captains' picks on the right players for the golf course that will be doctored up to Team Europe's advantage plus finding the strongest Team US pairings that can score well in the Friday and Saturday matches that Team Europe usually does well in.

Glover is the hottest golfer, and with the new putter....seems to make every must make putt.

We need great putters in the Ryder Cup. Especially over there. JMO, but Glover should be on the team along with Koepka.

It won't happen, but I'd probably leave Homa and Young home (in favor of Glover and JT).

I'm also not sold Glover will remain "hot". October is a long time from now.

And Zach isn't dumb, leaving Brooks off the team would be insane. Brooks will be in Rome not matter what happens after tomorrow.

I agree on Glover and Koepka. Your point about needing great putters is one reason I'm excited about Brian Harman being on the team. The dude is a short game machine.

The US team will be a mix of rookies and guys who just steamrolled the Euros in Wisconsin. Not much scar tissue to be found. Pick the hot hand and go kick their ass in Rome.

Homa and Young are locks on the Ryder Cup team. Homa has 2 wins, a runner up finish, T6 at Players, T10 at Open Championship and 10 Top ten finishes this season plus just 2 strokes off the leaders tomorrow.

F Brooks. Anyone but him in a team event.

Nobody has ever had a problem with him on the Ryder Cup team before. Dudes a great player. Of course we want him on the team.

Hope your right if he makes the cut. I want the Americans to hold the cup forever.

Based on the information and experiences I have - I'll continue to believe he's a toxic human who I would not want on any team representing our country.

Glover had a good month, what are the odds he's still the "hot hand" in 7 weeks? Based on his history as a player, I'm thinking pretty slim.
This new putting for him hasn't been tested in a big time event yet, and I wouldn't be using my last pick of the Ryder Cup to test it.

Speaking of Brandel. The guy is on a crusade against anyone and anything associated with LIV.

Only the top six are selected today. It's a high likelihood that Koepka gets passed by Homa and Schauffele.

The 7th through 12th spots are selected after next week's tournament. Obviously, Koepka can't earn any points. Some of those other guys, like Glover, will move up.

Koepka is a great golfer and a terrible teammate.

Koepka couldn't get along with DeChambeau.
Koepka couldn't get along Tom Watson.
Koepka couldn't get along with DJ.

Same story with Koepka, over and over again.

Tom Watson? Koepka wasn't even on that team. His first was Hazeltine. He's been a member of 2 winning teams which is more than many from this era can say.

I never said the Watson and Koepka rift was Ryder Cup related.

There was a statement that nobody ever had a problem with Koepka which is absolutely absurd. I fired off three quick examples. Easy to do with Koepka, he seems to run into jerks wherever he goes.

Ok then provide the example because in the context of this discussion the implied conclusion is Koepka had an issue with Watson on the RC team, which they've never been a part of together. As for your other 2 examples, no one likes Bryson and him and DJ had a bro fight and squashed it.

The PGA of America operates the Ryder Cup with the Euro Tour.
Koepka won the PGA Championship.
Koepka will be on the team; and Koepka should be on the team.
Great player with a great record in big events, there is no reason to leave him home.

The only valid reason to not consider koepka is he and his wife just had their first kid. So if he isn't mentally all in then maybe. If he is, and wants to be on the team he's a must take.

I could see that but Zach still has to select Brooks and make Brooks tell him no. Zach won't leave him off the team just because he didn't auto qualify.

Glover back to near bottom of the field in SG putting this week.

Completely agree. I'm just coming up with the only scenario I could think of where we may not want him on the team. All the other reasons/claims are laughable.

Koepka, JT, Fowler, Speith, and Morikawa will be on the team.

No chance glover makes it.

I really think the last spot comes down to Cam Young, Sam Burns, or Keegan Bradley

Here's how I see the landscape right now in terms of Captain's picks (in order of likelihood):

7. Spieth - He'll be on the team no matter what
8. Morikawa - Iron play is too good of an asset in foursomes
9. Fowler
10. Koepka
11. JT - I think he's in unless someone in the 14-16 range below balls out at East Lake
12. Cam Young - The Couples' remark a few weeks ago leads me to believe he'd get the benefit of the doubt as of today, but any of the guys below could bump him.

13. Burns - I think he gets Cam Young's spot if he top 5s at East Lake
14. Finau - Needs a top 2-3 finish at East Lake to make ZJ's decision difficult
15. Keegan - Same as Finau
16. Glover - IMO he needs a win this weekend

Don't think anyone else has a chance.

good breakdown and agree. I've been on the Glover bandwagon of late and would like to see him make it but acknowledge its a real long shot. Wouldn't mind seeing someone jump Young this weekend.

At this point, I think Spieth, Morikawa, Koepka and Fowler are in as captain's picks and two of JT, Young and Keegan will round out the team. If Brooks can't go, then ZJ's job gets a little easier as he'd be able to take all three.

I think JT is probably the safest bet among those three to make it. If I'm down to Keegan and Young for the last spot, I could go either way.

Cam is the better player with the higher ceiling. From what I understand, his data projects well at Marco Simone. He's also likely to be part of multiple teams going forward.

But with so many players lacking road Ryder Cup experience (only Spieth, Brooks, Rickie and JT), part of me leans Keegan. Road Ryder Cups are a different animal than anything else these guys are used to playing in and having an extra guy who knows all the feels involved could add value.

I also don't see Keegan in quite the same light as some of USA's previous "we gotta take him cuz he's got experience" flops (ie Hoch, Mahan, DiMarco, etc). He's shown a very consistent passion for the event and brings the energy. You gotta have a few energy-bringers on the road.

But again, I could go either way on Young vs. Keegan.
aggiegolfer2012
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If it comes down to Keegan and Young, I'll be fine with either one.
If I'm making the pick, I probably go with Young. I think he has a higher ceiling, a better record in recent big events, and is more likely to be part of the team in the coming years. Keegan hasn't played in a team event in a decade and has 1 top 10 in a major in 9 years, I don't know how valuable his experience is at this point.
And to be honest, Keegan would feel like an outsider on this team. It sucks, but that's how it works sometimes.

Reading Golf Digest this morning they think Burns might have jumped Young with his play the last 2 weeks. Find out tomorrow finally.
