At Nos Caves in Houston. It is a nice wine storage and banquet facility but pretty pricey if you want to store your juice there. Realm was in town last night and they are in Dallas tonight for the mailing list members. The Tokalon and Farella were my favorites.

Here's a cool cellar I saw in the basement of a winery in Spain.

Just added the 2007 Karl Lawrence Reserves (Crane, To Kalon, Morisoli, and Herb Lamb vineyards...all cabs), 2008 Lancasters, 2009 Keating Rockpile Petit Sirahs and Zins, 2008 Crocker and Starr cabs, and 2007 Alpha Omega Staecoach vineyard cabs. Time to clear out some room in the cellar so these can lay down for a few years.

The wife and i have always liked wine, but are just now becoming more educated. We recently purchased a case of Castello di Amorosa 2007 Cab and 2006 Il Barone. I loved the cab but we have not tried the Barone yet, it on the table this weekend though. We'll let the rest sit for a little while and come back to them. Thanks for the lists above, I plan on trying to pick up a few for our cellar(ie wine rack in the pantry). The descending spiral staircase cellar is quite possible the coolest thing i've ever scene.

I just ordered my last wines for the year...my wallet needs a break! I picked up the Pott Wines 2009 collection: merlot, cab franc, and four different cab sauvs.

Well this wine wasn't in my cellar but some good friends came into town from Chicago so my wife and I took them to Pappas Bros in Houston and after a damn fine waygu style filet, we ordered some 1937 Kopke Colheita Port...wow! The finish lasted for 20 minutes! Delicious!!!!

Going to a grower Champagne class next week. That will be fun.

this might be my favorite style of pinot noir so far. it starts light, good fruit, but has a richer, cab or merlot like finish. we got it on a group buy for around $27. if you ever come across it, i highly recommend you check it out.

Just returned from Paris where I got to attend Les Vignerons Independant (Independent wine-makers festival).

Un...be...lievable. Row after row of amazing, wines, champagnes and cognacs. Suffice to say I added a couple of good bottles to my small collection. It was good I was flying home, otherwise I would have maxed out several credit cards.

Sounds like a helluva trip!

At dinner last night, a Schloss Johannisberg 1971 Reisling.  It was delicious!  It's amazing how the color changed over the last 40 years.  (I am assuming it was lighter like the current Reislings)

Nice lineup! Where did you taste these? That is my kinda tasting. How was the M. Etain? I have 2 of each of the last two vintages but haven't tried them. Also, which Realm did you have?

Lake Travis Wine Trader in Lakeway. The M. Etain was really good, and I don't remember which Realm we had. Things started getting a little fuzzy at the end.

I've been in there plenty. That right there is an expensive tasting event.

Atty, I've probably seen you there many times, because we're there almost every Sunday, and sometimes during the week.

I need to check that place out the next time I'm out there! but for now, I need to dry out. I drank way too much wine this weekend.

anyone heading to the '09 Bordeaux tasting at the Intercontinental this week? im stoked - based on some "study" material I've seen, the best descriptor of the vintage is "cashmere" - silky, yet robust

How was the tasting?

I just got a case of Alpha Omega delivered and have absolutely no room in the cellar for it. Looks like I need to start drinking more!

the tasting was awesome. i felt like a child in that place though... there were probably over 30 outfits there w/ 1 to 3 bottles each. not being entirely familiar with bordeaux, it got overwhelming very quickly. we've been spending more time with our Rhone blends, so the flavor profiles were quite the whipsaw... among the standouts were domaine du chevalier and chateau talbot. i think we favored these the most b/c they were probably the most ready to drink of all of them.

i just dont know enough about long-age wines to be able to forecast what WILL be excellent. on the plus side, my wife's coworker that took us is a total wine nerd who's in the midst of his sommelier certification, so he was an incredible tour guide. that said, i've got a better idea now for whats what; but sad to say, i think a lot of the top notch stuff we tasted may have been lost on us

HOWEVER, i had my first sauternes and damn: that's gold in a bottle.

I received a bottle of 2005 Keenan Cabernet Franc as a gift yesterday. That one is going to rest for a little longer.
