Trying my first Scavino single vineyard Barolo. Probably unwise since it is bottle #2 and I just ate spicy Szechuan, but we'll see how it goes!

I have a 2018 Penfold's 704. Got it in a wineclub. Eyebrow raise because i didn't recognize the bin number then put it away.

Just looked at it again for first time in weeks and realized it says Napa Valley on it. Wut. Looked it up and this is Penfold's first foray into the Western Hemisphere.

Anyone else had it?

I've had this - thought it was interesting being from Napa. I liked it. In fact, I picked up a few bottles.

Cool! Hope you enjoyed it. That '16 is drinking well right now. The '18 was just released last Saturday.

Question for the board, what's the best website/avenue for obtaining older vintage wines?

Looking for 2007's for a wedding anniversary.

I called both Spec's Smith St and Houston Wine Merchant, but neither had much.
Straight ball, I hit very much.

www.wine-searcher.com is a good place to start.

I also use Benchmark Wines and Winebid.

Benchmark shipping to Texas now? I bought something from them years ago and had to send it to my in-laws in Louisiana.

K&L won't ship to Texas, so that's a big bummer. Winebid is best bet, I think.

Bounty Hunter may be worth calling as well. They pride themselves on being able to track down hard to find items.

Yes sir. Order some overpriced champagne from them a few weeks ago.

Easter weekend wines:

2015 Hoopes Cabernet - good QPR. Wine access sells these for about $50 from time to time. Now that Pott makes them (starting with 2018 or 2019 I think), it'll be interesting to see how the price reacts.
2012 Dom Perignon - I'm spoiled. I like older champagne. Will let these sit for a while but my niece really wanted to try one so I opened it for her.

We had lots of sparkling and a few different Pinots, but this was the star of the show with Easter dinner. It's still the best pinot noir I've ever had and really wish I could get on their allocation list. I'm two years in and still waiting.

Our Easter dinner is meeting friends at Salt Lick. We had a 2019 Law Aspire to go with bbq. It paired very well.

Not trying to take away from your day (sounds like a good one) but this is something I've said to friends but don't think I've discussed here:

I love bbq. And I love wine. But I just can't do the two together. To me, and y'all's tastes may differ, but to me it's two competing flavors. Not complementing. Maybe I'm weird…

Tempranillo is BBQ wine. Heck, the books even say so.

Especially fatty bbq like ribs.

That being said, Shiner Bock is hard to beat w/ brisket.

never have pulled the trigger on antica pinot.. just so pricey that there are fairly high quality producers in burgundy at those price points.. although oregon weather a bit more consistent so don't have the burgundy quality swings I guess

I like temp. and zin with smoked meats... the brighter red fruit hits my palate well in combo

I find that the bacon fat/smoked meat flavors that you get in Syrah pair well with bbq, but it has to be a bigger new world Syrah. Northern Rhone Syrah gets killed by the smokiness of the meat. The sauce can also be a factor. I tend to eat my bbq with little or no sauce, and a sauce that is heavy on the vinegar or sugar will smother a wine.

I bought several bottles of Ridge Rockpile to pair with smoked beef ribs. The Zin / Petite Sirah blend has enough fruit and acid to stand up to the meat.

A very nice viognier from Carol Shelton. Fuller bodied but not flabby.

Is there anything particular that you are looking for? I have a few 07's that I might could let go.

Where are you located?

Benchmark wine is a great spot for older vintages and other high end wines, but they charge a pretty penny. I don't buy there often, but if I am trying to find a special bottle or something I really enjoyed at a restaurant that's the first spot I check.

Have gotten 2 obviously corked bottles this year, and one slightly corked wine. So aggravating.

Fortunately got the producers to replace the first 2, kind of lost a little patience tonight on this 3rd corked bottle because it is the 2nd from this particular producer this year. Either that or the wine is just simply not that good, one of the two. I'm leaning towards slightly tainted.

Oh well. We changed direction and got out a Howell mountain Merlot. I was half on my way to whipping up a couple of margaritas, just a weird afternoon/evening all around and the wine corkage just was the icing on the cake.

Funny, I'm looking for 07s as well. I'm currently looking for 07 Tablas Creek Espirit de Beaucastel (the wines y has some but it's not for sale). I know I can get Chateau de Beaucastel because the person I get that from is currently getting the 06. I'm also looking for some 07 Dunn Howell Mountain, and a friend is visiting them soon and will see about buying some bottles there.

if in Houston, always worth a shot to go see Manny out at Party Pantry to see what older stuff might be of interest. I'd bet there are some '07 wines of note in his store.

will Dunn just sell 15 year old library wines to anyone that visits them or does your friend work ITB and have relationship?

Go to Winex. com right now. They are offering old vintages of Dunn Howell Mountain. Might have to get creative to get it in Texas, but where there is a will, there's a way.

I haven't looked recently but I think one time I tried to order and they don't list Texas as a state to ship to.

I think it is still against the law to have out of state retail deliveries to our great state, even though I know some still do it.

So I turn to the wisdom of the TexAgs Wine board as I need HELP!

My wife over the last two years has developed a reaction, possibly allergic, to red wine and has left us with an abundance of wine we will never get to. What is the best place to sell this stuff? Most of it is young, 2015 or so, some of it is higher end so selling bottle by bottle is probably better. Anyone know where or how to do this?

Thanks!
