Stupid, but I miss Pizza Hut's sandwiches. They had a toasted sub that was salty and heated after the veggies were on it, but I still crave them from time to time.

I also miss their Calizza, likely due to the memories of going to Pizza Hut with my mom when I was home for the Summers in middle school. They also had some kind of weird deep dish pizza around that time that I can't find online. Maybe it was the Priazzo, but I remember it being more saucy that any examples I've found online.

1980s Pizza Hut used to be awesome as a kid. Book It! pizza parties, Spy Hunter and RBI Baseball arcades at the one by my house, fun movie promotions (Land Before Time puppets and Back to the Future 2 sunglasses), pitchers of Coke at your table, etc.

A Kay's pizza seated at the Texas table. Then a walk across the street for some frozen screwdrivers at Volcano.

I'll start looking for the table, but this should hold you over

if these are the ones with oats and peanut butter, they are pretty easy to make.

Now my and my brother's specialty. As good or better than my mom's or grandmothers...

Key is getting the sugar/choc chips/peanut butter thoroughly creamy - no granules.

Late 1980's Golden Corral buffet as a kid was greatness. Endless mac & cheese, ice cream bar, etc.

The idea of it now grosses me out though.

Rolls and then ice cream!

we had sirloin stockade with a pretty good salad bar (for a 10 year old) with a big ole block of cheddar with a crappy wire cheese cutter.

Growing up, a dish my mother would routinely make was called city chicken. It was skewers of cubed pork that she'd southern fry in an electric skillet and then simmer for a few hours until it's fall-apart tender.
I don't quite remember the origins but it was something her family would make growing up on their farm, I think when chicken was too expensive to afford.

At least pre-rona,Taste of Texas still ran with a salad bar and cut-your-own block of cheese.

I've never had any issues with them being grainy. I use high quality cocoa powder instead of chocolate chips.

Referring to the sugar. If you coat the bottom of a spoon with the hot mixture and can still see/feel sugar granules.

I understood what you meant, but I've never noticed that it was any sort of problem, but I've always made sure everything is combined and melted pretty well.

Godfather's Pizza was epic.

Circa 1990 Wild -n- Wooly Wednesday at Double Daves, when the Peproni Rolz had more than 4 pepperonis in them and it was all the beer you could drink and all the buffet you could eat for like $9.00.

La Taqueria

Lived on Church St for three years next to Rosalie's (previously La Taq, if I'm remembering correctly) and across the street from Cafe Eccell...brown building with 4 apartments in it, and one of them was an office. Had to leave the apartment whenever he grease trap was being cleaned...

Anyway, the Double Dave's right at the edge of University was a frequent stop. Miss those $3.99 lunch buffets.

Early 90s Freebirds when it was simpler and better...the "Save The Bird, Eat A Monster" sticker they used to have is still on my bookcase nearly 30 years later.

Kind of random, but Pop-Tarts used to have a chocolate-filled flavor with a graham cracker outside...I loved them, but I must have been one of the few, because I haven't seen them in several blue moons.

Just about anything food. I do almost all my own cooking. I can make a really good chicken fried steak and a really good pulled pork.

I got some Waygu ground beef to make hamburgers. I'll probably cook a hamburger steak with it on Wednesday.

Also, because of some miserable digestive issues about three months ago, I'm now eating a full garden salad as a meal once every day or two.

These were legit. I think they were called milk chocolate graham. The current smores flavor doesn't even come close.

I used to like the regular plain blueberry pop tarts. Toast them up, slather them with some butter and enjoy.

You can't even find them anymore, not sure if they even make them. Every single pop tart in the stores these days is some icing covered sprinkle covered garbage looking thing.

So when I get the hankering for something like that, I grab a toaster strudle. Those things are still solid on occasion.

Steak fingers with extra gravy from DQ. I had tennis practice from 3- 4:30 and was in HS marching band and had 6 - 8pm Monday night practices during the fall. Before I could drive, just had wait for band practice to start since parents had to work until 7pm most nights. Luckily there was a DQ a couple of blocks down from the high school so I killed time there. This was before smart phones and tablets. Passing thru Kermit, TX last week and decided to order steak fingers for the first time in 22 years. Simpler times back in the day.

Three things I miss:

1. Fresh flounder fried whole - can still be obtained but much more difficult to get it fresh after the state tightened down on floundering rules. Frozen flounder is usually mushy.

2. DelMonte canned gingered pear halves - made great pear salad (dollop of mayo, marashino cherry, and a sprinkle of shredded cheddar on your gingery pear half).

3. McCormick black walnut flavoring - was good in pancakes but I loved it in Coca Cola.

I live in the Midwest, we have DQ, but they don't have steak fingers. It's ******* upsetting. I miss them.

I also miss going to Sonic in HS and getting a route 44 vanilla Dr Pepper. It's not the same now.

I'm reminded of the time I was in Wisconsin, and went to DQ for lunch. They had no clue what a "country basket" was.
