Sean Miller isn't boring, it would just mean the search would be boring. I like a good wild coaching search. I want hot boards that include everyone from Bill Self to Royal Ivey.

Well Wade's not trying to BS anybody Schloss-style, I'll give him that.

It is a lot different now that the players have the same options. Coaches can be a lot more open with their players without necessarily cratering morale. Everyone can make the best decision for themselves after every season. I imagine you'll see more coaches like this.

Truth of the matter is, Will Wade can say things at McNeese that he won't be able to say at NC State.

That would be a terrible hire. And very nepo. Major red flag from our AD if that happened

First to coach a 16 seed to beat a 1 seed. Virginia was that 1 seed.

Rodney Terry is officially out. Ben McCollum is a no brainer. Might not be flashy steal a guy from a big time program that CDC likes, but he is the right hire. Haven't heard any rumors though

If we end up having a new staff we should hire Terry as an assistant

It would be a great hire, but it's not a Texas kind of hire.

Seems like a Sean Miller lost Friday, finalized things with him Saturday, fire Terry today and hire Miller publicly on Monday kind of thing.

McCollum is going to be official to Iowa in the next day or so it seems

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus this morning. Will be a wildly different style of Iowa basketball than what we've seen over the last decade.

Bobinator, when would you expect us to hear if Buzz is leaving or not? He made a statement about hitting the recruiting trail.

No clue. I'd think if he already had another job lined up it would basically be immediate but otherwise who knows.

Xavier is an interesting possibility though - Jesuit school, like Marquette. I can definitely see Buzz being a good personality fit at a faith-based institution.

They don't play football, which he seems to have valued when leaving Marquette. I'd imagine he'd want serious promises when it comes to rev share and NIL to go to a non football playing school.

I think Texas will impact 2 or 3 jobs and those might not be aligned with Buzz salary range or fit with the school. The openings will be probably Xavier or another big conference program (e.g., Iowa State, Oregon). The other opening that will make maybe some waves it's Villanova particularly if they make a Shaka Smart kind of move which requires a power conference program to make a hire.

The Austin statesman threw buzz name as part of the potential replacements for Texas but I don't see him as the type of hire del Conte likes to make (he wants who ever is on the top). Want I found interesting is that the statement claims Trev Alberts and Buzz do not see "eye to eye".

https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/mens-basketball/2025/03/23/rodney-terry-texas-basketball-coaching-candidatelonghorns/82224484007/

"One source told the American-Statesman at the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., that Williams doesn't always see eye-to-eye with Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts and would leave the Aggies this offseason for a better opportunity"

What is kind of funny is the fact that Buzz is not the most social coach in our athletic department but he seemed to have had a good relationship with Schloss (e.g. both publicly supported each other and attended games).

I will say it again, I want buzz to stay and become our version of Matt painter (Purdue). However, he is very unique with his communication style that is hard to determine what he is truly thinking. From a financial standpoint, I doubt he will leave unless he can get something close to what he is currently making (this was true when he went from Marquette to VT).

Anyways, let's hope all these vacancies are clear soon so we can focus on building the roster for next season.

This means nothing.

Buzz found 10000 words to say about why he was leaving Marquette.

And if he leaves here, he will find 10000 words to say about why he went wherever.

(I don't think he's lying when he says them.)

But you can't read into "he said this thing before". You can read into "he will take a paycut."

Miller was making $4.5 million at Xavier, more or less what Buzz makes here. Xavier has the money if it wants to spend it.

Miller to Texas is best case for Ags. He's a mediocre hire.

I would never rely on anonymous sources when it comes to a news source in a rival's town or within their orbit. The sips are masters of planting stories in the media.

Lolz. Calipari and then maybe Barnes are the only coaches in the league with more skins than Sean Miller.

I think he's good but probably not devastatingly good. I don't think it's best case but at least it's not worst case.

Buzz has won twice as many NCAA tournament games as Miller in last 7 years. We aren't counting a play-in game as a tourney win.

Those skins have decomposed as they are so old. When he was cheating he was great. After that he has been average. I'm not saying it's a bad hire, but I expected them to make a massive hire and they didn't. Doesn't mean that he cant take them to a final 4, but I don't think college basketball is saying; "Oh wow, Texas isn't messing around". It's more like, "that's a nice hire".
