We've been playing poorly, auburns game the exception, and we play a lot of close games plus take is Ivy League. People are always looking for upset picks do this one seems like an obvious one.

But our guys will pound the boards like they always do and we should be able to give them some fits with our athleticism and size.

Just gotta avoid those long scoring droughts and a rash of turnovers and we should win it.

Watching the Yale vs Cornell recap so far. From the looks of it, they can shoot it well like we all thought so, but they tend to get lazy and lost on defense far too often. Also not too good at defending the 3 ball. I like Townsend's game, but I think he will be overmatched against Payne. Like I actually think Payne is going to work him badly. As long as we defend the 3 well enough and bully them on offense with solid FT shooting, we will win this.

I watched the long highlights, and I was not impressed at all with the game. Both Cornell and Yale were very slow and played matador "ole" defense. Both sides were able to make layups at will. Analysts are talking about their 3pt%, but when they play an aggressive team like Purdue, then their % drops from 38% to 29%.

Agreed. I also see that they tend to be lazy on their defensive rebounding at times as well. They are a great defensive rebounding team, but our size is going to be a big problem for them. You can't be lazy against us on the glass and get away with it. I think the Ags take care of business as long as we do what we do.

People are picking Yale because they bounced Auburn last year as a 13 seed. It's a gimmicky pick that appeals to the "I only watch march madness" fans

Agreed. This isn't the same Yale as years past.

The predictive rankings have them about on par with LSU and South Carolina, which are teams that you should beat, but can easily lose to on a rough day.

I figure they will have Aletan (their one center) in the game most of the time when Payne is in. He's 6'10 and long.

16 of those games were against ivy league schools and the 17th was the mighty 12-20 Howard Bison.

Yale is a good team, but they are a 13 seed for a reason .

Just need to play clean, low turnover basketball on the offensive end like we did to close out the regular season and defend the 3 point line like we did against Nebraska last year.

We went double OT with a higher seeded tourney team in an absolute ref show of a game.

Did you watch us a few tuesdays ago when we beat the #1 overall seed in the tournament by double digits?

This will be about the 3 ball. If they make a high percentage then it will get uncomfortable for us. Their top two scorers shoot over 40% from 3….gives me flashbacks of Penn State.

Everyone is obsessed with their 3pt%. The real question is whether they're going to be willing to fire them up there at the rate they're going to need to to beat us.

They're #336 in three point rate. If they're passing up open threes early in the clock to try and work the ball inside and get better looks at the basket we're going to kill them.

Penn State was a team that lived by the three. Yale is not.

Penn St made 6th most three pointers per game in the country and ranked 13th in three pointers attempted per game.

Yale ranks 187th in three pointers made and per game and ranks 310 in three pointers attempted.

Poulakidas is a guy that can get hot though.
Poulakidas accounted for 36% of their three point attempts and accounted for 38% of their makes. The other guy that shot over 40% (Townsend) has made about as many threes this year as Hefner. He is efficient, but doesn't shoot a ton (only had one game where he has made more than 2 threes).

Yeah, they're also small around the basket. Solo, Coleman and Garcia should have no problem defending their wing/forward guys because they aren't big threats around the rim like Florida's or Alabama's.

Our weakness is when teams can spread us out and then exploit the one-on-one matchups by penetrating and forcing help. Teams can do this by either having really good point guards who can get by Wade and Phelps or by wings/forwards who can pass the ball well and are threats from the perimeter so you have to guard them out there which drags Garcia/Solo/Coleman out of the paint.

I just don't see that with Yale. That's not to say they can't win, obviously they can, it's college basketball and our offense can keep anyone in the game a lot of the time, but they're not the type of team that normally gives us trouble.

I expect Yale to pack it into the lane and dare us to make open shots. They double the post a lot, so we need to make good passes and hit open shots.

Yes Ive also watched us be the worst FT shooting team in the SEC all year. I'm sure that won't be an issue in the tournament.
