Buzz wants out, but he might not have any takers. So it's basically an arranged marriage next year between A&M and Buzz. Neither the athletic department nor Buzz is excited about, but it makes financial sense for both sides and financial suicide for A&M to fire him or Buzz to just retire.

So what are the pros and cons of this...


Pros
1) Expect the players to stay. I actually like the pieces they have coming back with Payne, Solo, redshirts and new fish. Obviously they need to add some very key pieces in portal.

2) Buzz is going to try hard. He's not going to mail it in He's going to be very motivated.


Cons
1) There is division between Buzz and athletic department. That's going to be awkward

2) There is a damaged relationship with a decent amount of the fanbase. Some over the last week, but some before that. That's also going to make things awkward. Buzz has made it clear he doesn't really care about all that, so I don't see him trying to mend the relationship with fans. He never did much to build a relationship with the fanbase in the first place (instagram videos is not building a relationship)

3) If he does well, he is just going to try this once again next year and try to move on. He might try it again regardless but isn't going to have success without a good year. At least A&M has a full year to prepare for this

Good breakdown. I dont know where I stand on this. Buzz has soiled his reputation with me.

I want 2 things from A&M basketball:

1. Winning
2. A team I can get behind and feel connected with

I've had that connection every year except for Covid with Buzz. Honestly, if not for the inexplicable losing streaks every year, I would have been 100% on buzz and argued for him, more, even with tourney results.

After this? I'm in wait-and-see and constantly refreshing Texags for updates.

If he is back I'll be an A&M basketball fan still. But he's pissed me off in the last week to where I'm over him and not a Buzz guy. But I can still root for the players and just tune him out.

When Buzz blocked me the other day when I have said nothing but positive things about him, I told Method Man it was probably going to be my villain origin story and just maybe he becomes my arch enemy moving forward. Now all the reports about him throwing his name for all kinds of jobs for last month+ because he just wants out or here just adds to me no longer being a Buzz guy.

What is this riff wbtween Buzz and AD that everyone thinks exists? Cant be about $$ cause Buzz is already a top paid coach and really hasnt deluvered at that level. Cant see him expecting AD to give him more. So what would the beef be about??

Buzz is a joke of a game day coach

Someone mentioned it in another thread, but this week is a good example of why he would probably be better off with an agent. He has no one he can deflect blame to for this week's clear effort to leave. It came from him or those absolutely closest to him.

If Buzz finds a taker the next hire will be bargain basement. Thats why Alberts is here.

Can anyone provide any proof of all these claims. Seems like the narrative keeps growing, but so far I have only seen internet speculation to everything. I am not saying it doesn't exist, just wanting a little further proof outside of internet posters. Just curious how much is real and how much of the story is growing based on posters that want to be the one in the know.

I'm not impressed at all with Trev Alberts, and it doesn't bode well for any of our sports that our university needed to hire a an AD mostly known for cost-cutting, not winning programs. On the other hand, Buzz has been disappointing, and clearly doesn't deserve a raise. But continuing this arrangement at this point will be a disaster in my opinion. I don't think we'll be able to attract good players in the short run. Longer term, who has confidence in penny pinching Trev to hire a better coach? I'm losing hope for all Aggie sports…

Sounds like you are jaded from being blocked on social media and now you are just making up rumors that everyone is running with. It is really bizarre how no one seems to be questioning where all this is coming from. No one on texags really knows what is going on.

Billy mentioned on TexAgs radio a week ago about Buzz being unhappy a basketball staffer was let go in the athletic department layoffs. Buzz has a lot of people on staff, a ton more than other coaches we have had, so it made sense there would be cuts there. So that's the main issue is and I can see Buzz holding a grudge over something like that.

Then apparently the athletic department is not happy with him over him throwing his name around for every job opening. And at the same time trying to get an extension/raise here.

And then there's the thing where he has never been fired and ALWAYS has taken a new job by this point in his tenure.

We can point to many reasons and many of them are probably valid but the truth is he was probably doing this after losing 8 players no matter what. It's what he does.

I don't know the truth about what has happened between Buzz and the AD if anything . If I had to guess I'd guess Buzz is trying to get more financial resources ( extension perhaps but not necessarily a raise , more assistant $, more NIL resources) and he was told no. Had the team won at least one more tourney game he probably would have been pilfered away by someone .

What I hope to see is he stays , he delivers a positive surprise next yr with what he has + incoming talent , this all goes away and he gets the resources he wants next yr and he retires here in 10 yrs or so with a ton of success under his belt. I think that's possible but admittedly not probable. Fans will be fine as long as the team wins.
