I don't know the truth about what has happened between Buzz and the AD if anything . If I had to guess I'd guess Buzz is trying to get more financial resources ( extension perhaps but not necessarily a raise , more assistant $, more NIL resources) and he was told no. Had the team won at least one more tourney game he probably would have been pilfered away by someone .

What I hope to see is he stays , he delivers a positive surprise next yr with what he has + incoming talent , this all goes away and he gets the resources he wants next yr and he retires here in 10 yrs or so with a ton of success under his belt. I think that's possible but admittedly not probable. Fans will be fine as long as the team wins.

You live in a fantasy world. Lmao

If he is back I'll be an A&M basketball fan still. But he's pissed me off in the last week to where I'm over him and not a Buzz guy. But I can still root for the players and just tune him out.

When Buzz blocked me the other day when I have said nothing but positive things about him, I told Method Man it was probably going to be my villain origin story and just maybe he becomes my arch enemy moving forward. Now all the reports about him throwing his name for all kinds of jobs for last month+ because he just wants out or here just adds to me no longer being a Buzz guy.

Sounds like you are jaded from being blocked on social media and now you are just making up rumors that everyone is running with. It is really bizarre how no one seems to be questioning where all this is coming from. No one on texags really knows what is going on.
What rumors? Buzz wants out bc he knows he'll be fired next year. It's not really complicated.

It's not that Maryland is a better job or more hoops focused, both of which are probably true. It's that this is just Buzz being Buzz. It wouldn't be a bad look because he's done this twice before. People in the industry know this is what he does.
This is a unique scenario where I think losing a good coach doesn't really reflect on or say anything about the program itself.
good coach? Lol. Averages a #35 recruiting class every year. Worst offense imaginable. Who are you people? Lol

I'm slightly more worried about him pulling a Turgeon and leaving for another job in May than I am about him staying another year. That may not even be a possibility with the portal closing in late April, though.

Joni was on the search committee for Bjorks replacement, vetted Trev, and believe agreed to hire Trev. Think Trev knows this and why she may be safe for now.

Trev isn't who Schloss wanted, but moot on several areas (he had been working tu angle w CDC for awhile, didn't like Trev cutting office staff and didn't get solid facilities upgrade funding to extent he deemed necessary).

As mentioned elsewhere, most coaches disliked Trevs back office DOGE type rifs as think most lost some support staff.

Good to know! Will anyone be available, though? I guess that depends on the coach.

I am not sure about that since we will owe him +$10 million. The contract is not great for a&m. Buzz has a low buyout (to his advantage) and high guarantee money.

If you want to get more NIL resources, you don't go about it by continuing to trot out kids like Hef to start after helping them secure six figure NIL deals.

Hate to name players but people with that kind of money to donate can see the performance on the court, and wonder what they donated for.

Literally everyone who follows college basketball at a national level would describe Buzz as a good coach.

Joni is safe because he's not paying a 3 million dollar buyout for a women's basketball coach.

Buzz wants out, but he might not have any takers. So it's basically an arranged marriage next year between A&M and Buzz. Neither the athletic department nor Buzz is excited about, but it makes financial sense for both sides and financial suicide for A&M to fire him or Buzz to just retire.

So what are the pros and cons of this...

Pros
1) Expect the players to stay. I actually like the pieces they have coming back with Payne, Solo, redshirts and new fish. Obviously they need to add some very key pieces in portal.

2) Buzz is going to try hard. He's not going to mail it in He's going to be very motivated.

Cons
1) There is division between Buzz and athletic department. That's going to be awkward

2) There is a damaged relationship with a decent amount of the fanbase. Some over the last week, but some before that. That's also going to make things awkward. Buzz has made it clear he doesn't really care about all that, so I don't see him trying to mend the relationship with fans. He never did much to build a relationship with the fanbase in the first place (instagram videos is not building a relationship)

3) If he does well, he is just going to try this once again next year and try to move on. He might try it again regardless but isn't going to have success without a good year. At least A&M has a full year to prepare for this
Think results akin to this year's baseball for next year in hoops.

Also the expectations would be quite a bit different for basketball than baseball had coming into the year. Earley was almost in a no-win situation with the injuries/lack of consistency out the gate. Feels like the vibes for basketball would be differently oriented for someone new. Of course if Buzz is still here, I'm sure the bandwagon will be plenty full lol.

If Buzz stays with us, he must hire a PR person ASAP. He made what it seems a very deliberate change in the way he communicates to the press, fans and overall the way he portrays himself around 2017-2018. He used to be a very approachable coach with the local/national media and fans and used to be less guarded and less "formal"/serious. This formal/serious approach to fan/school engagement makes it even harder to make a "come back" in a situation like the one he puts himself in. At this point, it is evident that he is not getting a new job and he will stay here and earn a good salary at $4.6M in one of the best basketball conferences, in a town that lets you be who you are but ask in return some basic engagement (heck even Schloss said "Howdy").

Here are some examples of what Buzz used to be in terms of being more approachable and engaged with fans from his time at Marquette and VT.

Virginia Tech:
2014-2019
Buzz reading "mean tweets" about him and laughing about it (here)
Buzz is letting Barstool to visit their VT gym and do a sketches (here)
Buzz celebrating with VT fans after NIT win (here)

Marquette
2008-2014
Buzz participating in karaoke video (here)
Buzz participating family weekend at Marquette with students/parents (here)

Nice. Contrast this with Denver a couple weeks ago. The team wins Round 1 game against Denver. The fans cheer him and the team as they leave the floor. Buzz doesn't even look up or acknowledge the fans that made the road trip to see the team.

If Buzz stays - I kinda like that he has 1 foot out the door. That should make him hungrier to win (if anything) to bring in the horses needed to win NOW and hopefully modernize the offense/defense strategy. Because if he doesn't have us as at least a NCAA team next year, the opportunities that will come calling will be steps down. That's a big carrot. Focus on recruiting guys that can score and not people you'd like dating your daughter.

What exactly would constitute "shooting our foot off" in this situation? We have a basketball coach, he has a contract, and a job to do. We'll get a new one if that changes.

Everybody talks about Buzz and recruiting. Where does Sampson recruiting rankings rank? Or Pearl, or Golden? Only Duke recruits lots of five stars. Auburn, Houston, and Florida, have lots of portal guys who weren't highly ranked recruits.

Houston does have a big class coming in for 2025. But this final four class was hardly a bunch of five stars. Houston was mostly in the 30s and 40s in rankings.

Jmo , the recruiting is not that bad but we never get that one guy that finds a way to be a difference maker on the biggest stages . I'm thinking about guys like Uzan for Houston or Clayton Jr for Florida (both transfers) . Payne, Phelps, and Wilcher were very good adds this yr tho. Payne is a difference maker but the catalyst type guys that raise the bar in crunch time seem to generally be guards with no glaring weaknesses in their game. Do whatever is needed types.

Wade was very nice college player but he did have his limitations .
