Have you done any research on this guy at all? Probably not. If you did you'd probably realize this is a 180 from Buzz in terms of philosophy and engagement.

Will it work out? I don't know, neither do you. I was convinced Jimbo would win but look how that turned out.

If he's gonna be the guy, I'll still renew my season tickets. I'll support him. I will not throw a tantrum before his first game.

I don't know if it will or not but have wondered about it since I followed Bryan HS basketball in the late 90s - early 2000s. They were very successful with this strategy, abusing mid-level or lesser teams and beating most really good teams…good athletes, good basketball players but most of their 10 man rotation was around 6 ft. Made the finals against Willowridge who had an allstar roster. I was encouraged by Self's comments about being able to get good players for this style. He'll need to hustle for next year because he'll need a 10-12 rotation.

Don't even have a clue what the finances look like at A&M after Woodward, Bjork, and Jimbo? Add in revenue sharing and there are indeed challenges.

But just as an example, at UF we hired Billy Donovan from Marshall with 2 years experience, and he won two titles. We hired Golden from USF with only a few years experience and zero tournament wins, and he just took us to the FF. Look at where Hurley was before UCONN, Nate Oats before Bama etc.
Fit and upside matter more in basketball hires than football hires, by far. When you want to break through your current ceiling, trying something new is a valid approach. And hiring someone who plays a unique, fun style may bring more interest and engagement. Not to mention, he's won 20 games what 4 years now? It's not just a gimmick, he's a good coach.

Maryland is not gonna be good next year. Can you imagine how many white shooters from the Midwest are gonna go off against their defense? And I hate to say it but solo is gonna constantly be fouling out when he can't be as physical as he was here

Exactly they won't be good. But Buzz will have a narrative that he has used multiple times about rebuilding...urging Maryland alumni to be patient while he builds the program the right way...

It buys you 3 easy years before people start really pressing for results...and then 3 more years where it starts being a little uncomfortable.

Who knows he might strike gold and it will all be worth it. But if it doesn't work out, there will be another dumpster fire program somewhere looking for the same 'build-with-integrity' coach. Buzz is that man. But I honestly think it will take someone else to take a program next level. But is great for the dumpster fire to respectable years...after that not so much.

If the coach consistently produces...and succeeds he will be compensated AND want own what he built. We aren't the same school that 'failed' Turgeon...and Turgeon probably learned a little about 'grass is not always greener' when got to that Maryland basketball school.

I hope no one in the AD thinks like you. We might win 20 games but in no way should that be a metric to consider . There should basically be no metric that gets him fired in yr 1 short of committing crimes or not even trying to field a team.

Yes, your'e right . I went back and reread and agree he was saying Albert's will be gone if Bucky doesn't win 20 games next season which is probably even more ridiculous .

So much short sightedness here imo with regard to coaches and the AD as well. People want to judge Albert's based on the Elko and Early hires which is perhaps fair longer term but not at this point in time. Both of those hires could turn out to be great hires . Judging these coaches on one season for Elko and half a season for Early , and McMillin before he's even coached a single game here is just … well… not smart.
