If we want to keep Buckyball in Aggieland, we better pony up some big bucks and do everything we can to make him happy here. It may not be enough in the end when the blue bloods come calling, but let's not give him away. I've seen enough to realize he's the real deal.

Marksman made a dooooosh post and I called him out for it. It wasn't made at me, but dick moves like that ruin this already slow board for those of us who enjoy honest discussion and dont mind people asking questions. No other user names.

Less worried about blue bloods and more worried about if Nate Oats ever leaves Alabama for the NBA or something. Bucky has openly said he's been a life long Bama guy, wouldn't be surprised to see a Bear Bryant situation.
Yes, they will adjust and play us better.

Maybe I misread the tone. Sounded short and unnecessary. Im super soft.
I've been pleasantly surprised at how well Bucky has coached some of the details of good offensive sets and defensive principles.
Good offense like we are playing scales. We have shooter but we also have guards that get to the bucket - Hill, Holloway, Dibba. Bucky wants guys with skill and it shows. That'll translate.

Lane is really good at getting to the bucket as well but he picks his spots carefully . I think Lane is also very good at calming the team down when things are starting to go sideways in the half court.

1) Full court press the entire game. This is far and away the most unique aspect of Buckyball imo. Not many (any?) P4 schools do this.
2) Playing 10 players significant minutes. Although you can argue we only play 9, as neither Vinson or Federico have been getting more than 5 most conf games. Most programs only go 7 to 8 players deep.
It's also not just the press, it's the variety of presses. We attack you full court a lot of different ways, even of missed baskets. That's extremely rare.

I'm an Arkansan and grew up in the Nolan era. I went to a ton of Pig games at Ole Miss (I'm from south of Memphis) and SWC tournaments at Reunion Arena. It was always great watching his teams. This feels very similar. It especially will once our talent improves. Just need Bucky to wear cowboy boots like Nolan!

Yes, our South Texas family made the annual trip to the Summit in Houston and then later to Barnhill South in Dallas to call the Hogs under Eddie and then Nolan. My grandfather had a cropdusting/flying business in Refugio and Wright, Arkansas. We became Texas Aggie fans when my daughter, Class of 2014, became the first Aggie and petroleum engineer in the family.
I also worked in Snyder, Texas, where Nolan was beloved prior to going to Tulsa. I believe he is still the only coach to win national championships at three different college levels. Maybe, Bucky can be the first to win a jr. high district title, a high school state championship, and a college national championship. Gig'em with Buckyball!!!

Snyder is a small community and those who attended Nolan Richardson's Western Texas College games is even smaller. Would you happen to remember a very passionate and, uhm... "opiniated" fan regular that was either in a wheelchair or on crutches? If so, that would be my uncle. He was trying to tell us about Nolan before he went to Tulsa, but we didn't take him seriously until he got to Arkansas.

I think it's still going to cause problems because team don't see it very often in the season. So I don't know that seeing it twice is going to make coaches figure it out. Players aren't seeing it week in and week out so because of that I expect it to continue to be a problem. Now if 6 other SEC teams started playing like then it might lose some of ifs advantage as team will see if more often

From basketball, golf, and rodeo, it had an incredible history. They named the golf course after Sammy Baugh who played a lot of golf there. I was fortunate enough to meet Sammy and play a round with him.
I had a college professor who mentioned that he used to referee Nolan's games at WTC. When I asked him about my uncle he replied "Ohhh yeah, I remember him! He's your uncle?" Apparently my uncle was something of a ref heckler. I know he heckled the umpires at Snyder High's baseball games to the point that they threatened to ban him if he didn't tone it down.

First time I've tuned into this thread. A lot of good points. A couple questions occurred to me. Some of us have tended to focus on Bucky having little time to put the team together, with a suggestion that he couldn't necessarily get "his guys" (although we obviously have some true studs). Maybe it's Bucky's ability to recognize talent or the willingness of these particular players to buy into his system. But, whatever, it's working. How difficult will it be each year to find vereran (or high school) players to create this kind of chemistry and will more highly recruited players have the same buy-in?

This team couldn't even practice during the summer because they only had 5 players. The rest of the team showed up when school started. This team is just now learning how to play together and are just learning how to really play how Bucky wants them to play. Bucky grabbed a bunch of hard working players that noone else really wanted and he is turning them into assassins that truly love playing together and are playing without fear. Nothing short of amazing!!
For what it's worth, I'm certain Bucky knew about these portal guys and probably even sent them a pitch from Samford. Not really in the space to pull them except a couple. But he absolutely didn't start looking after the plane landed in Easterwood.
Oh I don't think so at all. Mgbako, Griffin, Hill, Isaacs, Agee, Vinson, Federiko... none of those guys were ever coming to Samford. Why waste the time and effort?

I knew Baugh as well. Great man. Dude cussed more than anyone I ever met and I liked it.

Yeah, our offense is our unselfishness and ball movement. The team is all about finding the open shooter rather than "get across half court-> get into set play->core or reset/repeat".
Another element is, even if you know it's coming, it's tough to replicate the 94ft press and how that wears on your mental game. You heard it in Griffen's anecdote from Josh Hubbard after the State game, if you're playing the Aggies you aren't going to get 8 seconds to catch your breath and regroup as you bring the ball up. You'll get hounded on the inbounds, you might get trapped, and if you turn it over we're gonna find Dominguez/Griffen/Clemence/Lane/Dibba/Issacs for a 3 and then you get to do all that over again.
