Wildest thing floated in that article is Will Wade going back to LSU, that would be crazy town.

There is a lot of smoke today that this is in the works

If so, that's a disaster for NC State. I imagine that would give quite a jolt to the LSU fanbase, more so than just any young up and comer. Truly anything is possible in today's college sports landscape.

I don't think Will Wade is a good floor coach but he would bring big talent to lsu. He and lane kiffin on the same campus will be a handful.

I agree. He's pretty good at acquiring talent, but on game day he's nothing special. He gets talked about as a really high level coach, but I don't think his resume really matches that.

The reason it's a disaster for NC State is they did a lot of work to get him there and for him to bail after one year puts them in a weird spot, especially in a cycle that has some big openings. I personally think NC St is a better job than LSU, but I guess it's a risk you take when you hire a slime ball like Will Wade.

I live in Raleigh and have personal and professional ties to UNC. Like many others, I was sad to see Hubert Davis fired. He is a quality person and much loved within the Carolina "family." Here, the key word is "fired." There had been talk of somehow maintaining his relationship with UNC. But, Hubert apparently still wants to coach, if not at UNC than somewhere else. From the little you can glean from the local media, the next coach has not been secured. The timing is obviously awkward with the ongoing NCAA tournament. I agree that neither Oats nor Golden fit the (genteel?) image UNC has generally tried to project. Many of the other "candidates" simply aren't realistic for the reasons discussed. It will be interesting to see who they hire and how quickly the process plays out. I'll likely be the last to hear anything but will pass along tidbits that come my way.

UNC ran an academic fraud scheme for EIGHTEEN YEARS to keep athletes eligible. It's one of the sleaziest universities in America. F them and their genteel self perception.

Will Wade has a good resume when you consider that he's only 43. he's kinda like Buzz Williams circa ten years ago.

The "paper classes scandal" was a huge black mark against UNC and definitely undermined their academic reputation. From what I understand, the NCAA chose not to sanction the athletic department primarily because student athletes and non-athletes were both seen as benefiting. At the time, that seemed like a pretty convenient interpretation. Bottom line regarding the basketball program, UNC was very fortunate that the 2005 and 2009 NCAA titles were not impacted.

Their perception of themselves as genteel is laughable. It went on for 18 years.

NCAA Men's Basketball Coaching Changes & Rumors - Late March 2026 Update
Current chatter on X is heating up with the post-tournament coaching carousel in full swing. Roughly 30-40+ changes already this cycle, with more expected in the coming weeks. Here's a compiled summary of the latest rumors, firings, hires, and intel pulled from recent posts (as of March 27, 2026). Focused especially on anything SEC/Texas A&M related, plus the bigger national picture that Aggies fans might care about.

SEC Highlights (Biggest News for Texas A&M & Conference Fans)
  • LSU Matt McMahon has been fired. Multiple insiders and boosters were reportedly frustrated with the program's direction and NIL spending (LSU has been near the bottom of the SEC in NIL commitments). Big underlying story: McMahon was already ready to leave. LSU is bringing back Will Wade from NC State on a massive 7-year deal. This is being called one of the biggest coaching moves in Tigers history this century. Financial commitment is huge (combined with football).
  • No other major SEC firings or hires popping right now, but the conference is watching LSU closely since they've been toward the bottom of the standings. Alabama and a couple others have been mentioned in passing rumors, but nothing concrete.
  • Overall SEC vibe: Teams are chasing upside after some disappointing seasons. LSU's move is the headline that every Aggies fan is talking about today.
Texas A&M Specific
  • Bucky McMillan Zero rumors or speculation about any change. In his first year he took over a roster with basically zero returning scholarships, was hired super late to the portal, dealt with major injuries (lost projected NBA guy Mackenzie Mgbako for the season), yet still finished 11-7 in the SEC, made the NCAA Tournament, and overachieved preseason expectations by 8-9 spots. Multiple A&M insiders and national voices (including TexAgs and beat writers) are calling his job one of the best coaching performances in the country. He's locked in and the program is in great shape heading into the portal window.
  • No portal-related coaching drama or vacancy talk whatsoever. Aggies fans are hyped and feel the future is bright under McMillan.
National Landscape & Other Notable Moves/Rumors
  • North Carolina Hubert Davis has been fired. This is a massive national story. Sean May and Marcus Paige were apparently planning to leave for another job, but the firing changes everything. UNC is now one of the biggest openings out there.
  • Arizona State Bobby Hurley out Randy Bennett (long-time St. Mary's coach) in. Big hire for the Pac-12/whatever conference they're in now.
  • Cincinnati Wes Miller out Jerrod Calhoun (from Utah State) in.
  • Boston College Earl Grant out Luke Murray in (new hire).
  • Providence Kim English out Bryan Hodgson in.
  • Syracuse Adrian "Red" Autry out Gerry McNamara expected to take over.
  • Creighton Greg McDermott retiring Alan Huss in.
  • Other moves Georgia Tech (Damon Stoudamire out, Scott Cross in), Charlotte (Aaron Fearne out, Wes Miller in), San Diego (Steve Lavin out, JR Blount in), and more smaller programs turning over.
  • General rumor mill: The carousel has been extremely active early. Several mid-major coaches jumping to Power schools. Expect more big-name openings (and possibly some Power-conference assistants getting their first head-coach shots) once the tournament fully wraps up.
Overall, the national picture is "business as usual" for the crazy coaching carousel season, but the LSU-Will Wade reunion is the SEC story that has everyone buzzing right now. Texas A&M fans have nothing to worry aboutBucky McMillan is the real deal and the program is trending up. Things will keep moving fast once April hits and more jobs open up. Keep an eye on X for the latest; the big programs are always one bad tournament away from the rumor mill exploding. Gig'em!

Interesting. Asking Grok to search X and compile information on a topic seems to work pretty well.

Man, the offseason coaching carousel is spinning like a damn tornado again and it's only been a couple days since the tournament wrapped. LSU just pulled the trigger on Matt McMahon and is hauling Will Wade back home on a monster deal. Not exactly a shock after the way things cratered down there, but damn… talk about closing the circle. Wade knows the program, knows the boosters, knows the NIL game. Whether it works this time around is another story, but the Tigers just went from "meh" to "interesting" real quick.

UNC canning Hubert Davis is the other big national headline. Blue blood program with a big ol' vacancy that one's gonna draw some names.

Arizona State grabbed Randy Bennett from St. Mary's, Cincinnati went and got Jerrod Calhoun from Utah State… it's the usual mid-major-to-Power shuffle we see every spring.

I feel like a greg bot post that long would have included more than one ellipsis.

Grok uses Texags reporting, so it becomes an automatic pumper. Not saying I disagree with this summary, but it will be interesting to get its evaluation on spring football.

What are the thoughts around Sampson possibly retiring? Do we think that happens this year? Wonder what Houston fans think about the legacy plan there, especially given what happened with Auburn this year.

Texas A&M Football: Spring Practice Buzz, Transfers, Recruiting & 2026 Outlook (Late March 2026)
Spring football is in full swing down in College Station and the early chatter on X from beat writers, insiders (TexAgs, ********, Aggies Wire, etc.) is mostly positive as the Aggies prep for the 2026 season. Mike Elko is in year 3 and the program feels like it's building off a solid foundation after the 2025 campaign.

Spring Practice Update
The Aggies have already knocked out 4-5 spring sessions (fifth one was Thursday). For the first time in the Elko era, the media was allowed to watch an entire practice and the reports are encouraging. Practices are getting "more and more productive" according to DC Lyle Hemphill. The big theme is that all the new transfers are starting to adjust to the "Mike Elko storm" the tempo and physicality are ramping up fast.
Standouts mentioned so far:
  • QB Marcel Reed has had some really good days throwing the ball.
  • A freshman WR (Aaron Gregory getting some buzz) is flashing.
  • Overall offense and defense both showing flashes, but Elko himself is keeping it real says the team still has "a long way to go" to be a true playoff contender.
Transfers & Roster Notes
A&M brought in a top-ranked portal class (17 new transfers) and a lot of them are on the defensive side. The early word is they're integrating well and adding depth/length where it was needed. Updated spring roster and measurements for all the newcomers dropped last week good size across the board. No major portal drama or surprise departures popping on X right now; focus is all on spring development.

Recruiting Intel
Recruiting never stops. Just yesterday (Thursday) they hosted an elite 2028 prospect on campus for spring practice and he got face time with Coach Elko. The 2026 and 2027 classes are already looking strong and the momentum feels good heading into the summer.

2026 Season Outlook
Early SP+ projections have the Aggies sitting around #9 nationally, which lines up with the hype. Expectations are high for a reloaded roster, especially if the offense clicks under new play-caller Holmon Wiggins (lots of talk about throwing it more "Air-Raid lite" vibes from some WR comments). The schedule will be tough (SEC life), but with the portal haul, returning pieces, and Elko's culture taking root, most Aggie fans on X are feeling optimistic about another strong year and a realistic shot at the expanded playoff.
Overall vibe on X is "excited but patient" spring is about building, not final judgments. Things will get a lot clearer after the Maroon & White Game and once fall camp hits. Keep an eye on the usual suspects (TexAgs, ********, On3) for the deeper intel as more practices roll.
Gig'em… spring ball never lies, but it's still early. Who else is fired up for 2026?[/sp]
