Dominguez, Holloway and Isaacs seem to tranfering out...I am a little puzzled considering the success in year one. Hope there is a silver lining there

Yeah as good as this year went. I'm fine with nobody returning. This team needs to get more athletic.

Before the portal opened I said I would only be disappointed if we lost Mgbako or Clemence. So far we have lost neither, so I'm good. Doesn't mean Mgbako is for sure staying, but we haven't lost him yet

On Dominguez, he averaged 6.2 ppg in Feb and March. He shot 31% from three in those final 2 months. He shot worse than that from the field.

We haven't lost any of them yet. Not saying we won't lose some or all but we haven't until we have.

Pop ain't coming back. Don't see Holloway coming back

I'm not saying this is true but it could be they are testing the market and if they find out they can make as much here as elsewhere they might stay. Risk of course is if their spot disappears in the meantime . I'm
Not pretending to know . Also could be they know before they go to the portal that they can make more elsewhere . You are suggesting the latter and you may be right .

IMO Pop was likely going to start next yr and get plenty of PT. Dominguez was a maybe and Holloway likely a reserve again. Holloway is likely mid major bound for more PT. That one makes perfect sense to me. Other 2 are less clear imo.

What makes you say Pop isn't coming back so definitively?

In basketball, guys testing the waters and returning are very few and very far in between.

If a guy like Pop goes in, you have to assume Bucky and Co are instantly putting that money to good use because he was certainly very expensive. As for Holloway, I said it on another thread, but if we're going to be better next season he would have to accept even fewer minutes. I don't know anything at all, but that one wouldn't surprise me if he was encouraged to look around.

In Bucky we trust.. we lost guys that were decent not great.. Ruben got worse vs better comp and was liability defensively.. pop got better but I believe Bucky can upgrade..
Bucky didn't come here to make 2nd round he knows we maxed out and need to get better and bigger..
trust the process

I think so, too. He has to fix making layups, moving his feet on defense, and rebounding.

Michigans entire starting five were transfers.

Let's give Bucky a full portal season shall we?

No one is going to invest a lot of money in Mguabo right now. Foot injuries are a problem in basketball. He is not going anywhere. Also he took a lot of money already from us and didn't play. If he has any moral compass he will come back to earn his money.

No one knows this but Clemence was hurt at the end of the year. He had a hard time practicing. He had a foot issue. He had the equivalent of turf toe. Which can be painful.

I wouldn't say nobody knows it, since Bucky openly talked about it

I concur for the most part. These three...no big deal. Dominguez is possibly a loss off the bench.

But let's be honest, I felt Dominguez was a defensive liability and also he isn't very consistent. But he is certainly the biggest loss of the three as his offensive presence impacted defenses.

Gonna be interesting to see what Bucky can put together with a full portal cycle.

They let Pop go as much as anything. It was a "mutual" decision. We definitely can upgrade from him.

I said it a few weeks ago and it still holds true:

Quote:

Reality is if we're wanting to compete on a national level, then much of this roster needs to get turned over next year or a lot of players accepting role-player type positions.

These guys aren't freshmen, they aren't going to take big leaps next year.

Sucks that is the NIL-world we live in, but if we roll out a similar roster next year then we're going to wind up with similar results and get outclassed in Round 2.

Historically that's not really that bad for A&M, but we're in a window where the amount of money we spend directly correlates with national success, so if we have it and we're serious about winning, then a lot of these guys won't be here next year.

This will unfortunately become a yearly trend across pretty much every program. Coaches have been warning us of this - having to recruit your own team every year.

I was texting Marc and Method during the Houston game that maybe getting smoked was best case scenario (other than winning obviously) because we kind of needed people to realize that, from a talent perspective, we weren't close to the top tier teams.

Yeah, you hate to frame it that way but its the truth. And I have high hopes we're actually going to see it in action - this NIL free-for-all window isn't going to stay open forever, so a school like Texas A&M needs to take advantage while they have the opportunity.

Yep

Roster needs to be upgraded, and with Bucky starting from the beginning of the portal rather than at the end I fully expect it will be.

Yeah and there's really two levels, I do think we'll probably see us be a significant player for some obviously good players out of the portal.

But I also think Bucky's approach is going to get us a player or two every year where when they commit we're going "okay... I guess we need depth so why not" and then that player turns into a significant contributor for us like Clemence.

That second one is where having a whole year to really build up our scouting operation and having a strategy in place is going to make a big difference.

I hope you feel a little silly today for making this post yesterday considering todays signing. Some people just cant wait to jump out here to spew negativity at every chance before steeping back and looking at the big picture. We are in a whole new era with this NIL......roster turnover is going to be constant every year.

We just picked up a 23 pt scorer off a top team in the Big 12.......i bet there is someone just like you on their message board with a sky is falling story to tell also.

Lots or reasons to be excited about PJ, but KSU finished 15th in the Big 12 and was mess with their coaching situation. Did you mean player from a top conference?

I am assuming you are referring to my post; therefore, I'll reply.
I'm not sure where you gathered that I came on here to spew negativity. I simply stated a fact..."not much to build on". All I was trying to say that of the few players that still had eligibility, we lost 3 in a couple of days. That is a fact. Never once did I say "we are doomed", nor "fire the coach", nor "our season is over". I tried to leave all emotion of out it.
I then displayed a douse of disbelief considering the recent success.
Moreover, I expressed my hope for good things coming out of this by saying "silver lining".
I would definitely catalog this new recruit as a silver lining.
You on the other hand, stated your opinion on how I should be feeling regarding my post, and tried to shame me for my negativity. I question who is really bringing negativity here.

Michigan shelled out $10 million. I doubt the Ags will do that for basketball.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really
