Oops.

Arkansas and Ole Miss up next for Mississippi State.

Can Mullen start 7-0 and finish 7-5?

I think we still have a good shot at going 9-3.

Go Dawgs!

I predicted after a 7-0 start the Leg Humpers lite (Georgia should be the Leg Humpers) would **** the bed and go O-fer down the stretch... don't make a liar out of me now boys you are almost there.... This week's "Battle of the we want so bad to be relevant and we are butthurt that A&M has come into our Conference and will never be relevant, oops wait until next year" should be a good game. I predict Arky by a snout and then Ole Mioss is going to run through you guys like Metamucil thru my grandma...

Hey D-bag...I showed up, I recognized that y'all whipped us. I also know for a fact that our 1st half offensive playcalling is why that game turned ugly...we should have been passing the ball every down in the 1st half. But we didn't and we lost. I'm just saying don't get too big for your britches...

Yea that would have resulted in some big plays but Damontre Moore eventually would have killed your qb if you'd passed that much. Dude is one of the best rush DEs in the conference

We'll be ready for tsun...8-3...heading into Oxfart after destroying Arkansas to keep the Black Bears out of a bowl and to get us to 9-3 and into the chick-fil-a bowl..good season overall...losing to Bama and LSU on the road is understandable....thought we would beat A&M, but they clearly have surprised most of the CFB world...kudos to them...we will make a run in '13 with Tyler Russell back and our entire O-Line...

The "Egg Bowl" is not taken serious anywhere outside Mississippi, to my knowledge.

Face it, State and OM pretty much exist as punching bags for the big boys in the SEC.

The only difference I can see is that at least the OM folks know their place in the SEC, the Cowbell people actually think they are taken serious. They have been in a "rebuilding" phase for 40+ years, near as I can tell, lol.

p.s. I shouldn't be too hard on State.

It is kind of touching to see 'em plugging away in football, but they are just never going to get there, except in very flukish year.

Make a run at what in 2013?

Do you really think State can win the West?

Sorry, bro. 4th place plateau next year.

This is probably Miss State's last chance to beat Ole Miss for about 10 years.

Conventional wisdom is that Miss St is a Top 20 team and Ole Miss is like Kentucky. My numbers show those 2 teams are about dead even.

Holy Shyte, the line is a pick'em. I am a prophet! I told you these 2 teams were about equal. I knew MSU was overrated and OM was underrated. They are both middle of the pack (7-8-9) with Vandy.

This is a very watchable game, IMO. I am interested in seeing this game. A win for Ol Miss means a bowl. A win for State means quite a bit of bragging since Ol Miss is up and coming!

I'm probably going to regret delving into this fray, but here it goes...

First of all, there is no such thing as "The Grove" at Mississippi State University. Try that Google image search again and see if you can come up with a better insult.

Second, what Mississippi State fans and Ole Miss fans, and fans from every other SEC school know is that every school is one coach or one player away from either a) a national championship or b) a loss to Vandy and last place in the SEC. Current cases in point: Arkansas and Auburn. Some people predicted Chizik would be out of his league without Cam Newton, and Petrino had a shaky reputation before arriving at Arkansas, but I don't think anyone predicted either team would fall this far this fast.

Tennessee has not been able to repeat the success they had in the mid to late 90s under Phil Fulmer. South Carolina wasn't a blip on anyone's radar until Spurrier took over, and it's taken him a while to build that program up. Florida had a few tough years in the early 2000s between Spurrier and Urban Meyer (anyone remember Ron Zook?). And from 1997-2006, Alabama changed coaches like most people change their underwear, until landing Saban.

The one exception to this seems to be LSU, since they hired Miles to replace Saban. They really haven't had a down year.

From what I understand, TAMU has had its own trials and tribulations with coaches, and has struck gold with the current team, so I'm sure you can understand.

My point is, SEC football teams can be like a house of cards. Remove one card and a team can be down for a few years, opening doors for any one of the other teams. While not at the top of the pack every year, Mississippi State and (as much as I hate to admit it) Ole Miss have had some big wins in their not-so-distant history and can be dangerous.

No coach can coach forever and players come and go. You really never know what each football season might bring, and that's what makes this conference so interesting.

Good synopsis! Since you font know me you couldn't know my pic posts are just "tongue in cheek" for most part. Even though I'm an Ole Miss grad and current grad student, I don't really have strong animosity toward State and I respect job Mullen has done and liked Jackie and Emory when they were both there. Ive been to State many times I just like joking and teasing in regards to the rivalry and I love most everything related to college football. I quit taking it all seriously years ago.
TXTransplant
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Dixie...you are at Ole Miss?!? Now I get the joke! I thought you were an Aggie who hadn't figured out the difference between MSU and UM (ESPN still has trouble with that). I should have known better .

I went to undergrad and grad school at MSU, but live in TX now. I have a lot of friends/classmates who went to law or medical school at Ole Miss.

I moved all the way to TX, in the middle of a sea of Aggies, and my neighbors across the street are Ole Miss fans/grads. They have an Ole Miss tag on their car!

This TXTransplant person must be new to the Internet.

Although I do agree with about 50% of what he/she said

Not new to the internet, but (relatively) new to TexAgs. I lurked for a long time before I posted. And I usually only feel compelled to comment when MSU/Mississippi get dragged into the fray.

50% agreement...that's not too bad, considering I'm a novice around here . I'm not going to go off of the deep-end like other MSU fans who have posted around here. Most MSU fans are pretty rooted in reality.

Dixie...are you going to the Egg Bowl on Saturday?

Yes, I'm planning to. It will be my first time to go in many yrs....was married to a MSU grad so that game wasn't conducive to marital harmony. Last time I went they still played it in Jackson. I'm looking forward to it. And in all honesty it is very true that records go out the window when the two play. Ole Miss may have more to play for (bowl bid) this year but I'm not sure how they'll bounce back after the loss at LSU. Of course State would love nothing better than to keep Rebs from going to a bowl. Guess we'll see come Sat night...it's supposed to be a very cold night in Oxford...not sure who that'll favor! LOL

Have fun! I haven't seen an Egg Bowl in person in quite a few years. You are so right about predictions, rankings, etc, going out the window! Most years, it's a big free-for-all! I'll be watching on tv. Hope you can stay warm !

I seem to recall something like that, but depending on when it was, I may have just heard the story. I didn't really keep up until I started school in 1996. I grew up on the Gulf Coast.

That's a long story as how I became an Ag....way to much to type or post on open forum Suffice to say I came out to first game in late 90s and fell in love with Aggieland. Have made lots of wonderful Aggie friends!

I think I was at that game! I think I drove all the way back to Starkville to attend! It may have been the only Egg Bowl I attended, actually. I think they revived the Thanksgiving Day game tradition the next year.

There was one girl in grad school with me who was an Aggie. She was from a town outside of Columbus and went to TAMU for undergrad. I think she and her family live in TX now.

I won't be surprised to see Ole Miss win. Hugh Freeze is a very good coach and is a league above Mullen. I do think he will out recruit Mullen in 2014 and 2015.
