It looked like the end of the bat flattened the end of the glove causing the ball to not be caught.

In my opinion, the bat clearly hit the glove. I can see why some might disagree, but I don't think it was a wildly incorrect call by the ump or anything, sure looked like the catcher interfered with the batter's swing to me.
