And I had another Offseason Aggie Baseball dream last night! The baseball team was staying at my parents' house. They were all staying in the same bedroom. No, my parents do not have a huge bedroom capable of housing 40 boys. Dreams are weird. I went in there and saw a cockroach. There were a couple of the boys in there and I told them they needed to take care of that. They started trying to smash it, but were doing a poor job, so I went to get a vacuum cleaner. I told them that this is the best way and then used the hose attachment to suck up the cockroach. Then there were a lot of cockroaches and we went around sucking them into the vacuum.

I. I don't know.

I don't usually star posts about roaches. But when I do, there is a vacuum involved.

Allow me to interpret your dream (I, too, have weird dreams when I eat mushrooms).

Your dream centers around a 3-game series in a central Texas town on April 25-27. Roaches are everywhere.

The players represent those that will wreak havoc on the unsuspecting insects.

The vacuum in your dream represents a broom used for sweeping purposes. The use of a vacuum leaves no residue that has to be picked up later.

That is all.

We've got one week, Ags. Start packing your clear bags and don't forget a blanket. I don't care if it's been warm lately. Bring a blanket. Find your Whammy machine and test it out. Stock up on bubble juice. Practice your game face. This is your ONE WEEK WARNING.

Ball 4. This should be our secret code for a Super Regional ticket sales...it could be more epic than TCU15! Just marinate on it...

Thanks, I like that. And I'm going to look like an oracle if we pull that off!

Bought in 1903 by Prof. J.S. Brown, of the first faculty of Southwest Texas State University. The house was restored in 1974 by Larry and Diana Murphree.

Every Aggie knows this one! But did you know… it's really long! One of the longest state highways for sure. Not only does it run both ways, you can take it all the way out of Texas!

I'll be seeing this sight in six days.

6. Aggies Sweep a Double Header at Alabama
Date: April 19, 2024

The Aggies' number one ranking was immediately put to the test with a top 15 showdown in Tuscaloosa. Bad weather forced the series to shift to a Friday double header and single game on Saturday. Double headers typically favor underdogs, but not on this day. After falling behind 5-0, the Aggie offense erupted for a six-run fifth inning en-route to scoring the game's final 10 runs in a 10-5 win. Caden Sorrell homered twice, including a grand slam in the aforementioned fifth inning to give the Ags a lead they would not relinquish. Chris Cortez and Shane Sdao combined to allow just one run in the final six innings.

In game two, the Ags started hot with an eight-run second inning. A Bama grand slam in the bottom half brought the game closer, but homeruns from Gavin Grahovac (5th inning), Braden Montgomery (7th), and Jace LaViolette (9th) proved to provide enough distance in an 18-9 win.

We had family in Claude starting in the 70s so have been there a couple of times. But I don't have clear memory of that building.

So…I found out the cousin closest in age to me in that branch of the family passed in January just now. My great aunt Ruth passed in 2015 and her husband before that. My last memory of Cousin "Jo" was visiting in early 70s when she was a teen. The courthouse was built in 1912:

Alexander Gates & Lillian Johnson Thomas House
San Marcos, Texas

Alexander Gates Thomas (1877-1944), an English professor and authority on Texas folklore, and Lillian Johnson (1885-1966), an art professor, met as educators at Southwest Texas Normal School. Married late in life, the two were inspired on their honeymoon in the Cotswold region of England to pattern their home after the cottages there. They built this house themselves of native stone quarried near San Marcos. Of special interest are its 14-inch thick rock walls and its Tudor revival features, including the swept gable roof and arched lancet openings.

They added the third floor (and took off the cupola) in the 1920s, so when they did the renovation, they didn't go all the way back to the original. It is nice, but the courtroom has the worst acoustics imaginable. It's like the dome at St Paul's cathedral in London. From the back door, you can hear everything that is being said in a bench conference, even in a whisper, but the court reporter seated in front of the witness stand can't hear the attorneys at the counsel table unless they use the microphone.

This building features prominently in two movies written by Archer City native Larry McMurtry: The Last Picture Show and Texasville. Larry owned an antique bookstore that took up several buildings downtown.

5. The Comeback vs Georgia
Date: April 27, 2024

In yet another top-20 matchup, the Aggies faced off against one of the best offenses in the country, led by future Golden Spikes winner Charlie Condon. With a stiff wind blowing out, you knew there would be fireworks. After winning the Friday night opener 5-2, a Saturday double header started off with disaster. The Bulldogs erupted with nine runs in the top of the first, including three home runs. No problem. The Ags responded with three big flies of their own in the bottom half of the first to cut the Georgia lead to 9-8. A Braden Montgomery walk tied the game in the third, then the flood gates opened for eight more runs in the sixth, including a grand slam from Montgomery. Travis Chestnut walked it off in the seventh to turn a 9-0 deficit into a 19-9 run-rule win.

I saw they were building a new courthouse. I assumed that was because people retiring there was driving up the population. I didn't realize your current courthouse was gone.

Top Moments of 2024 Countdown:

4. Ryan Targac's Story Book Senior Day

While the SEC West title belonged to the Razorbacks after splitting the first two games of the series, A&M still had a ton to play for on the last day of the regular season as they were looking to lock up a top 8 national seed and win a series against their oldest in-conference rival. The Ags re-took the lead on a Braden Montgomery home run in the third and would not relinquish it, tacking on six insurance runs in the sixth inning. Gavin Grahovac homered in the seventh to make the score 13-4, and Ryan Targac was called on to pinch hit for Ted Burton with two outs and runners on first and second. The 12th Man delivered a walk-off RBI single to seal the run rule victory, and there was not a dry eye in the house (or on this board).
