Surely we can do better than snagging DBU's coach...

Now we move to a stop gap type hire and give him NIL and a $1M salary. If he is competitive keep him around if not, start back-channeling a Jarret or Tadlock etc over the next 12-24 months.

It's understandable we have to have somebody now and most quality guys with experience like Oconner don't move on a whim. Especially into shark infested waters where W's are harder to come by than most ACC weekends.

I know he was a hot name a few years ago, but what is the view on Tadlock?

Give me a break. Do you know how many Christians are coaches in the college ranks. I don't see Dabo Swinney's strong faith stopping him from winning titles. Relax. The guy is not out of Footloose.

I think we are learning when it comes to head coach positions that A&M isn't the destination many of us hold it out to be. Someone further down the list will take the job.

Chicken littles are out in full force. A&M IS a destination and a great job. I think everyone in the nation knows that. That said, we are not talking to assts that would all jump at the chance, we are currently talking with HCs that all have established programs, fanbases and their families are entrenched in the community. It is also a terrible time to be looking for new leadership, bc the cycle of extensions and raises has already happened due to everyone not named Tennessee and A&M's seasons being over for over a week (most over a month). Hard for coaches (especially baseball) to walk back the level of commitment that these types of schools show to their coaches. This is just different than football.

texas inflicted maximum damage on us this week. We are still recovering from it (and will be stronger), but finding a top notch coach is not going to be easy. Everyone needs to relax. We will know soon enough.

I'll say this, if the DBU coach took an internal stock of of his religious convictions, and overlaid them with an SEC baseball program, and made a decision based on his beliefs, that needs to be heralded. And I want to buy the movie rights.

If, capital I&F, that is the case, I really like the guy.
But, I get the concerns about the relatable scale of what has been done, with what lies ahead.

Or it could be the exact same reasons he's passed all those others up. It's not important to him.

Seems we inquired on the best options out there for home run hires and they declined, probably due to timing etc not that they wouldn't want to come here.

Admin hopefully won't be involved to money whip a bad hire now that there is not a splashy name to parade in front of the cameras, GOOD.

Let's take our medicine, hire a ballast coach to keep things moving. Give the boys some extra NIL to stick around and be competitive and assess a long term hire over the next 12 months..?

You honestly think some of the studs we have on the roster are going to stick around for a "ballast coach"????
Really???

I expect Welsh to come up with a strategy that is more viable than cutting costs…

Ten Heefner threads on page 1 right now.

We just won four games in Omaha, are number two in every poll + RPI, have a beautiful park, an $80 million renovation on the way, and play in the best conference in the country. Why are we hitting up a small school and hoping that someone who has done more with less can win in the SEC.

We should be hiring someone who is already winning in the SEC or ACC.
Do you remember when many of us were rightly criticizing the whorns --- who love themselves for all of us --- for sickeningly touting they they were so great that they could get anyone they wanted for any type of coach (and then ultimately couldn't)? It was (and IS) this "entitled" and arrogant attitude that causes us and so many others to despise their claim to elitism. [Just wait until the rest of the SEC starts to "enjoy" this "out sh** doesn't stink" treatment.] Let's check ourselves during this baseball hire, lest we start to sound just like those awful people in that awful city representing that shady a** institution.

Perhaps our program isn't as much of a destination baseball program as many think they are entitled to think.
It's not so much that as your top-tier coaches are for the most part very happy with where they are and don't want to leave.

Also gotta point out the timing is not good for anybody coming in here. Leaving your old school at the last possible second before the portal closes probably doesn't sit well with a lot of coaches, especially after seeing Schloss get roasted the last few days.

There are 30-day windows outside of the normal portal for coaching changes.

Yes. And most good players will be gone from the portal quickly. You would potentially be leaving your school with no options but players who also lost their coaches late.

You have to have elite players. What elite recruit would not want a coach who could coach up like Heefner? Top 10 in the draft but not even close to top 10 in recruiting. You add on our resources and SEC schedule....seems like a good choice.

He is unproven in big time baseball. We are a program with elite resources. He is not an elite hire. He's a Rob Childress type hire. RC made it to Omaha twice and never won a game there.

I feel like you should know better. Heefner is a top tier coach who already recruits extremely well.

Is he a "flashy" hire? No. But he's a damn good coach, and baseball players in hs and college know who he is.

Is he my first pick? No, but he's top 3 and I'm not sure I could realistically put them in any order and feel confident about one over another.

If I had my druthers, we'd be going after Erik Bakich at Clemson. I've read he's very happy at Clemson, but we have a lot of facts in our favor.

The SEC was 5-0 against the ACC this in this year's CWS. By all measurements, the ACC is the second best conference in the country, but the SEC is the best. That 5-0 record shows that the difference is significant. You want to win a national championship in this day and age, the best preparation you can get is to play an SEC schedule.

Speaking of things in our favor. We have a beautiful park, and an $80 renovation on the way. Clemson isn't poor, but they don't have Texas oil money. And you will find no more passionate and supportive fans anywhere in the country.

I could go on and on. No coach would say no to me (and A&M's money).

Because our flashy big-name coaching hires have worked out so well as of late.

Guy knows how to win and it sounds like he is a player's coach,. Wouldn't it be nice to have that after finding out how big of an ass was to some of our players? Not all our players are here just for the NIL $; I would love for those guys to have a coach that represents our values.

Heefner would have been a great choice but I can fully understand why he decided against the move. I believe Earley will also prove to be a great choice.

No one knows if he turned us down or Trev interviewed 9 coaches and decided not to pursue Heefner. The final two coaches were Earley and Tony V. Two coaches that appear the most alike of all the candidates we know interviewed. So this is the profile Trev likes best.

And I'm a Heefner fan.
