Belyeu is an outfielder. Our likely outfield based on that we saw in the CWS is Grahovac -Laviolette- Sorrell. So one of them has to ride the bench if Belyeu plays. That's my point. I didn't think I'd trade any of them for Max.

If one of them transfers, or Hensler doesn't, then we probably have room in the lineup, otherwise... ??

Gavin is a natural OF and has spent the majority of his career there. I think he has the potential to be great either spot. Would be curious to hear what his preference to play is.

I don't know preference but his dad said he loves playing both and he was super excited to play outfield after Braden went down.

Kent could be the most versatile player we have, with a high upside in the draft after next season. Not sure what that means in terms of where he should start, but we could have him on the field in multiple positions, and his hitting is only going to get better.

Jack Paris's dad is a sip and played baseball for them.

My bigger point, and I hamstrung myself using Chestnut as an example, was the availability of playing spots on the team now?

Before the playoff run, it was thought the following positions would needing to be filled due to draft and lack of eligibility: DH, C, 1B, 2B, SS, and RF. So much concern that we used the transfer portal to bring in two infielders to fill a couple gaps, slide Kent to SS, and Bell to 2B. I am not sure If was to be played out this way or not. Now DH, 2B, and DH want to come back (bless them for it), but it jams it up to enable the patiently waiting players their time to play.

There is no guarantee Kent will start over Chestnut, but likely so. What about the players who were busting their humps to get their shots; like Bell? Who are the next superstars on the team like JL last year and GG this year? Who will be our next players to build upon? There is more to this than a fantasy baseball team - I guess that is a perk for us fans.

Bell is going to TCU. If we retain Kent hes iur SS and Chestnut is competing for 2B and CF. Schott mill probably have to play a fielding position at lwast part time if we keep Henseler and Binderup pans out.

Your "AFAIK" in your post doesn't scream the same confidence you now have after the fact, though. But good work.

The NCAA like to change rules and screw over the students subject to them. You can never be 100% on any of their rules for this reason.

I didnt' say in and out of the lineup. I said between fielding positions and DH. Teams do it all the time for various reasons.

Is there a baseball portal site like what they have for football and basketball?

The only ones that I can find are pay sites.

I just don't think this is a weekend option for us if we end up with the players that are already committed to us or on our team currently. Because there's already 3 (or 4) OFers that are studs before you even get to Schott. And he won't merit playing time out there because of his range. And kids that have MLB dreams don't want to spend a year at DH in college. Schott seems more than happy to and I'm more than happy to have him there.

In the meantime I'll continue to obsess over whether #9 plays outfield even though I have no control over the matter whatsoever. It's really quite pointless and I should be working instead.

64 Analytics (pay) has rankings, probably the best actual analytics, but I'm not a subscriber. You can glean a little from their twitter.

I'm sure On3, 24/7, BaseballAmerica, etc all have something, but they're all pay as well.

Not surprised, Stephen F is a tu system school now. My alma mater is so screwed.

Telling a kid he no longer has a spot on the team at the last minute. Sometimes the day before they are due to show up on campus, so they're left scrambling to find a spot somewhere else.

Like the time Augie left a first baseman's mitt in his catcher's locker.

I'm not entirely clear on how it works for incoming freshmen who have a signed NLI and have been admitted into school if a program can just say "you no longer have a scholarship here." I think with freshmen this usually occurs after fall baseball.

However, I can 100% say there are plenty of teams out there forcing players into the portal. Last I looked there were like 4000+ kids in the NCAA baseball transfer portal. There are definitely mid-major programs looking to go out and snap up kids who leave P4 and G5 conference programs that don't find a landing spot.
