Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of situation.

I don't hate the idea but the OP only gave us half of the equation. The fact we've only played one midweek has given us no insight who could possibly take over as the third starter.

Well Freshcorn's got good stuff and I believe he started at McLennan. You could try Freshcorn, Moss, Morton. It would be more of an all hands on deck approach. Pick the guy that does a good job of starting and then piece it together from there.

If you end up with 3 quality starters but your bullpen can't finish a game then the quality starts don't mean much. You have to figure out how to close a game out.

If you don't find a solid enough third starter you have to go even deeper into what so far has been a shaky pen. Tough to save a game if it is already out of hand (see Tuesday). I'd be far more inclined to go with your idea if the bats were producing consistently. The piecemeal approach to pitching with excellent bats did work for us in '22.

Kinda thought about this the other day. Think of the Sims kid keep showing you stuff on Tuesday you consider it later in the season. Especially in postseasons when you really only need 3 starters anyway

Freshcorn has really good stuff with that sinker/slider mix, but it lives off movement so I'm not sure the swing and miss stuff is necessarily there at the level you want from a closer like we see with Stewart. That tends to play better as a starter than a closer

That's what I'm hoping for once Sorrell is back. George can't play left though. He was absolutely lost out there last night.

2024 he was their Ashenbeck (primary closer), according to their Stats

Baseball ref says 3 times out of 41 appearances.

For sure he was lost. And it would be worse at Olsen with the unpredictable winds.

Won't be popular, but Wilson can repeat his performance from last night would give him a shot in closing duty.

If he can build off the momentum from that performance, then I think this could be a possibility.

Rudis would be an excellent t option as well, but Rudis could carry more innings consistently so would like to see him in long relief.

My son and I had this conversation last night

He came to be a part of the team and the team demands may not be a sunday starter. Not saying we should or shouldn't move him, but team needs are more important. Kash didn't come here to play 1B, but I bet he'll end up there if he's on the field when Sorrell returns.
