Paraphrasing on old Japanese saying: If you get on the wrong train, get off at the next station or your return trip will end up being more expensive.

I see the team fighting. They need to keep doing that.

Bama had more flyball outs by a wide margin (and some K's) than contact hits (singles, doubles) etc. They had 4 homers and two were after free passes.

and, respectfully, two of those 4 baggers were after an egregious pitching change, or maybe two egregious pitching changes..
Oh, I agree. I wouldn't have pulled Jackson until he gave up a base runner. He was cruising. I guarantee you Earley is thinking about that late into the night.

I just wanted to point out there were a ton of fly ball outs for Alabama.

Based on his answers to the press, Early is giving no second thoughts to his pitching moves. They were absolutely the correct moves.

What gives you that idea? Other than...well, his (non)answers, his body language, his eye movement, his posture....but other than that...
I saw a guy who was mad. Probably mad at himself in hindsight. He wasn't going to throw Rudis (or any player under the bus).

The architect of this was speechless? Tell me more!

Two solo jacks in back to back pitches, after pulling a dude that was mowing them down in the late innings.

I'd be pretty speechless after that move as well.

Same thing - he's not going to throw Rudis under the bus and he's not going to admit he made a mistake. He said they liked the matchup. He was relying too much on the analytics instead of staying with the hot hand (Jackson).

I can safely say I've seen far more pitching collapses coming from trying to scheme matchups rather than hot pitchers being left in one too many batters. ALWAYS RIDE THE HOT HAND BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW HOW DIALED IN THE NEXT PITCHER WILL BE. Tonight was the perfect example of it.

Besides, it becomes obvious when the hot pitcher is cooling off because he'll start loading the bases with walks or singles.

It's not just him... it's all the generals we hire, bad AD, poor board of regents, etc that are making the decisions.

We bring in unqualified people and you naturally get lackluster results. Not sure why people think things will change when you keep making the same faults over and over again. They are fortunate they have the second richest public school in the country (after TU) and can squander billions (sports, academics etc). Just imagine how highly ranked we would be in sports, academics, etc if we had good leadership. All the other schools do a lot more with a lot less.

You don't have to throw any players under a bus to admit you made a mistake. Misusing your talented players isn't throwing them under the bus. Throwing your long reliever in as a closer is misusing his talent.

Two observations…..

How has Earley seemed to have failed from learning how to coach when he had an elite mentor in Schloss? Makes you think Schloss doesn't actually share Jack with his assistants.

Big red flag was when we hired the Washington head coach to be on staff wasn't it. And where in the hell has his advice to Earley gone?

Taking out Luke Jackson was criminal
So was punch hitting your best offensive catcher for Harrison.

I get PH there if you don't like the match up, but damn use Binderup or Beregevin before Harrison.
That move was absolutely mind boggling.

You misspelled bottling.

Jackson got 4 outs on 14 pitches and got pulled. This was a major coaching blunder. Jackson did not look happy leaving the game, rightfully so. Earley is not only losing games but **** like this will cause him to lose the players as well.

Brutal season thus far with the same roster as last year minus normal attrition. I see zero signs of improvement. I just don't think hitters forget how to hit. Maybe we turn the tide today.

I mentioned this on another thread, but I have absolutely seen Schloss make moves where he got cute with matchups in big games that made me scratch my head. I don't think any head coach is immune to that...but especially early on in their career, trying to over manage a game is a temptation that many coaches have, instead of being patient and letting the players control their own destiny.

Bottom line is we had one of the best coaches in the country. Seemingly, there was nothing we could do to salvage that situation… it was what it was. But to go from Schloss to an unproven coach never made sense to me. Why would our program value shop? There were so many options. IMO, you never worry about talent or the short-term (next season) in hiring a coach.

At this level, you hire a coach with proof that he can win, and you let the other stuff (talent) fall into place. HC is a big job, and we are living on the job training in real time.
