Why not Royo at leadoff?

Don't think that Jace has taken well to the 1 spot.

Ideally, TK3 would lead off, but despite making some good contact this weekend and having an RBI single yesterday, Earley looked livid with him after his 8th inning AB w Kash at 3rd w 1 out, not even offering at three called strikes.

So how about Royo at 1?

1 Royo 2B
2 Jace CF
3 Hens 3B
4 Sorrell RF
5 Bear C
6 Kent SS
7 Schott DH vs RHP, Bindy DH vs LHP
8 Kash 1B
9 TK LF

I'd like to see this:

1 Sorrell RF
2 Builder 3B
3 Tubby CF
4 Bear C
5 Kent SS
6 Royo 2B
7 Schott/Bindy DH
8 Kash 1B
9 TK2 LF

Wouldn't mind your lineup either but I think we need to get Sorrell as many ABs as possible. He's our best hitter and seems to have the clutch gene.

If Royo keeps swinging it like he has been, he'd be a great lead off guy. You'd just have to hope moving up in the lineup like that wouldn't mess with him mentally too much.

This is what I said on on the other thread. Earley likes the alternating RL so yours is probably better. Honestly good with any of these. I just really hope we don't run Jace back out at leadoff this week.

Caden 9
Wyatt 5
Jace 8
Kash 3
Bear 2
Kent 6
Schott / Bindy DH
Royo 4
TK 7

I think Sorrell saw the last of his good/hittable pitches this weekend. He needs some protection in the lineup or teams will pitch around him.

Royo
Sorrell
Hensler
Jace
Kent
Bear

That would be the concern with me, moving Royo to the lead could mess with his mojo. I think Sorrell would handle it much better.

I actually still prefer Schott as DH even vs. lefties. Binderup besides one weekend has basicaly been non existent. Save him for a PH when we need a miracle HR as Schott seems to be less of a power threat. But Schott's approach can do well vs. lefties. He stays on the ball and almost everything is up the middle or the other way. He can stay on a lefties slider.

I like to keep Royo at the 9 hole. It's good to have productive from that spot in the lineup and a guy that can flip the lineup over.

Don't change what's been working

That's what I was implying. I wouldn't change Royo's spot specifically in the lineup right now.

Now everything else, we could maybe shake up some more.

Why can't the lab created lead off guy lead off? We have a guy that hits for great avg and is faster than heck.. I don't understand why we moved him off of the leadoff.

I get that one. Guys that are doing well get used to where they are located. Moving them might mess them up.

I think Kent is better in the 5-7 range instead at the front of the lineup.

I would assume Jace as lead off was an effort to break his slump. Obviously, he is a natural 3 or 4 hole hitter given his power. I would put him in the 3 slot if I was Earley even with the slump although I don't blame him for trying something different.

George needs to play against LHP.

In his last 23 ABs, he's 10-23, hitting .435.

Binderup at 1B, George / Sorrell in OF / DH.

Good point but I want Kash at first the rest of the year. Bindy's offense is not good enough to counter the drastic difference in their defensive abilities.

Coach may disagree, George started in LF against LSU LHP.

In the sticky interview today, Coach says Kash and Bindy are going to based on matchup. I'm not really sure how you pick between those 2 and Schott right now for 1 fielding position and DH tbh. My gut says Kash is the everyday 1B just because the defense is that much better, even with Bindy's improvement. Then you have Schott / Bindy at DH based on matchup and the other is one of the first PH options off the bench.

i like the idea of finding someone anyone to bat lead off instead of jace. not a knock against jace but he isn't a lead off hitter.

i would utilize any of these guys based on how they are hitting at the time. royo, TK, and since we have tried just about everyone at leadoff i might give kent a shot. he has a good handle on the strike zone and brings some pop to the role.

Lineup variations is an interesting topic. But man.....we can only hope that Jace breaks out of this slump. Last 7 games, he's 2-27 with 12 Ks (4 BBs) and 1 RBI. I'm starting to wonder if he's injured in some way. Maybe his hand is still hurt from the Sam game?

A swinging bunt is one of them. I think everyone can agree that is the last place he belongs in the lineup. I need to go back and compare the stats with TK at leadoff Texas wasn't great for him but it wasn't for many others either. I still think we are 8-9 run/game avg. Kash is the one kid who is due to start rolling. He's a better 1b and needs more AB's

Until he breaks his slump, he goes to the 9 hole. Royo goes to leadoff. TK bats 2nd. Sorrell hits 3rd. Hensler clean up and the kid, KK hits 5th. Take your pick 6-8.

This team is going to ride or die with Jace hitting somewhere 1 thru 4 in the lineup. There is no possibility he bats anywhere lower than 4. He has to figure it out and be that guy again.
The Ags just faced two outstanding pitching staffs that have made a lot of really good lineups look lame this year.
Mizzou will be just what the doctor ordered.

TK leading off we averaged 9.35/runs a game that's even with the Texas series and Tenn 10-0 shutout. He had some bad AB's that series but he still manages to get on base. He's been better than anyone else at the top.

We should roll against Mizzou, but we can't come in over-confident or being overly aggressive and anxious at the plate. Need quality ABs and take free bases if they are giving them. I'd really like to see less swinging at bad pitches early in the count.

I'd like less swinging out of shoes and less bailing out away from plate. Pretty absurd some of the balls we are trying to pull.

The one on this thread I like the best now swaps Sorrell to 2 and Jace to 4.

And there's a good argument for J George DH'ing vs lefties.

I guess the point is there are multiple lineup frameworks better than what we trotted out this week.

I like this one best but others sound better. I absolutely do not think leadoff fits Jace. He is not that type of hitter. I would like that position be filled with somone who makes contact, can sometimes surprise with a bunt, and who can handle that pressure as the first batter. You really need someone who is not likely to K because a strikeout really puts an immediate chill on the remainder of the lineup, especially if the 2nd batter also K's.
