The series that start tonight are both interesting. Auburn and Florida being our next two opponents makes for an efficient scouting watch, and I like Florida to take that one at home. I want to see how Georgia does at what is typically a pitcher's park this time of year, although Saturday's game may play more favorably for the hitters with the wind blowing out pretty hard. The polls have a lot more faith in Arkansas than the RPI would indicate is justified.

Not that every series from here out isn't a yuuuuuge, but finding a way to get win this series to get to 11 or 12 wins after this weekend would be massive. Of course we'd still have work to do from there, but we'd be ahead of schedule and feeling pretty good.

LSU has been struggling; they have talent but the pitching and defense have been bad. If we're patient and get a few free bases, we're going to score and put a ton of pressure on them. I do expect we'll win at least 2.

That said, only winning 1 game this weekend isn't the end of the world at all, just makes the 2nd half a bit more challenging.

Also, Rammer Jammer! Roll Tide! Because duh.

Not one to ever really cheer for Pig, but I'm certainly no fan of UGA Baseball and their antics either. And they sit alone atop the standings, so I think all lowercase whisper "go pig?"

Georgia still has a home series with Missouri left on the schedule, so I don't think we are catching the dogs. Arkansas also has a series at Missouri left on the schedule as part of a much easier finish to the year, and will be competing with us for a host spot, so I think, on balance, I'd prefer Georgia to win this one. In fact, I'd be fine with a Georgia sweep. Their pitching will probably trip them up in the regional.

I hadn't looked at everyone else's remaining schedule but just took a quick glance and you make a great point - if you concede that you aren't going to catch them it doesn't really matter how far ahead of you they are.

In the end you want to be in the top 1/3 or so of the league to be in the running for a national seed, so yeah maybe not having a logjam of teams there would be better for us. I think you've convinced me this is the better result.

There is a guy that has put together a composite baseball schedule that makes it pretty easy to compare.



So, looking at that, I asked myself, who has Missouri and South Carolina left on their schedule? That team has to have the easiest run in. The only team that has them both left is Vanderbilt, which is interesting, because Vandy's RPI is so bad, it seems very unlikely that they will get in range to even make the field. But, I guess we might find how much conference standing matter if Vandy goes, say, 9-6 (6-0 against Mizzou and South Carolina, then 3-6 against UK, t.u., and Bama) to finish 16-14, but with an RPI around 50. Would they make the field? Would they be in the hosting discussion?

D1 says Vandy has the longest active regional streak -- dating back to 2006

good chance to rack up wins vs. Missouri and Carolina, but those wins may not help them much in RPI

the Ags are in Baton Rouge this weekend -- a place where they have performed fairly well

won the series in BR in 2017 and 2022...and have never been swept

in fact since A&M and LSU started playing annually in 2013...there has never been a sweep in the season series

it's always gone 2/3 one way or the other -- kind of usual after 12 series played

and for another 2007 vs. 2026 comparison...

after 35 games...Childress' second-year squad was also 28-7...with 6-5 conference mark

the 07 team was in Missouri for games #36, #37, and #38 -- where they would win 2 of 3

Mizzou finished 2nd in the Big 12 that season and hosted a regional

Some really big news from Fayetteville: Georgia starting pitcher Vigue was pulled during warmups for the third inning. May be the dreaded elbow injury. That could totally flip,Georgia's season, as thin as they are on the mound.

Remeber: regionals will be less "regional" this year as they sort of apply the "S" curve to the 2 seeds. Now, if they are a 3, they will almost certainly play a close regional.

Nolan Warren's rpi ratings are way above my level of understanding. Oregon State dropped only one spot yesterday. The Aggies stayed the same while LSU improved 10 spots.

First the change is from Sunday, not day to day. Second, it is more difficult to make jumps in RPI when a team is already in a good position considering those teams around you are likely to also be playing well. And finally, RPI does not only factor in how you played over a stretch but how the teams you've already played have done. I'll assume the big LSU bump is due teams in which they have good wins against having good wins since Sunday.
