Think I suspect the problem is my ESPN Select acct is tied to my Roku stick in Central Texas. TV in NOLA won't authenticate to ESPN Select.

My gripe is I have to sign in with my tv provider every time, even though it shows my correct tv provider in the settings.

My screen freezes up in the app on my phone ALL the time. It's especially annoying when you're trying to scroll through football scores in the fall. It's been doing it for 2 seasons now. I switch over to the CBS sports app. and it's great. Just have to get used to their odd abbreviations though.

How do you watch when our games are not on one of the linear tv broadcasts? (I mean the real ESPN, ESPN2, SECN, or ESPN channels)

Only a tiny fraction of our games are on TV, but literally every SEC game of every sport is on the ESPN app.

I would highly recommend searching YouTube for "how to login to tv provider on espn app". There are dozens of videos like this. And I'm sure a specific video for the exact device you want to use (iPhone, Android phone, Apple TV, Roku, Smart T, etc…)

I seriously can't believe this. I have the ESPN app and Direct tv. Getting SECN+ and Espn+ is literally as easy as linear tv. And I am 71 years old.

Well I figured out the log in with YTTV, but my TV and phone to a certain degree routinely drop my internet connection. That is AT&T fiber gigaspeed. All other apps... Netflix, YTTV, paramount, etc. work just fine. Only the ESPN app gives me problems. Tried deleting and reinstalling. No luck. Pretty frustrating.

Welp, you are fortunate Derm. The dropping the internet connection routinely is maddening. Not that I can't watch... just that I can't watch continually...

Do you think it is because I use Direct tv instead of YTTV?

Well no problems watching SEC softball. Weird. Watching on a Roku stick on this TV. Same internet speed. Spectrum via router about 30 ft from TV. Sony TV.

In NOLA, AT&T fiber. Box is directly behind TV. Samsung TV. ESPN app directly loaded on TV.

YTTV on both.

Gotta be something with the setup in NOLA. May buy a Roku stick and try it there.

I never have any trouble on the road either. My phone and IPad are easy peasy and I sometimes can cast on the TVs where we are.
And SEC softball tourney is on linear regular SEC network.
Weird.

Not at all. I use YTTV and watch on the order of 8-10 games a week on the espn app. Zero issues except the stupid repeated login process.

Things to check (in order of priority based on my EE real life day job)
1. Actual internet connection. Can't go this route without solid internet. If your modem / equipment is old ask ATT to troubleshoot or replace.
2. If you are convinced the internet to the house is good, choc the network in the house. For most people this means WiFi. Again if your equipment is more than 5-6 years old throw it away; it's time to upgrade.
3. Streaming device. Built in apps on old TVs suck. Old Roku / Firestick / Chromecast devices suck. If more than 5 years old get a new streamer.
4. Sorry. Put up an aerial and watch Gunsmoke reruns.

Crazy thing is my setup in Texas is a heckuva lot older than equipment in NOLA.

Semiconductors and discrete electronics all have an average lifetime, which is based on typical usage and environmental conditions. Things such as power surges, lightning, heat, and many other factors will greatly accelerate their death.

Is your tv plugged directly into the ATT modem with an Ethernet cable? If so try a different cable because they fail too.

It's a troubleshooting guide, and you aren't having trouble so it doesn't apply. It's not a sales pitch .

The other thing I would mention is that older modem and routers have serious problems with the number of devices we want to connect these days. They were not designed for 50+ simultaneous connections.

I don't think so. Will have to check. Think its wifi from the box. No problem with laptop connectivity upstairs. No problem with other apps on that TV either.
