I wish the wind was blowing a little harder this weekend but S/SW winds should still let the ball travel pretty well this weekend.

Remember that Texas St is also without their SS who was one of their 2 or 3 best hitters this season due to being kicked off the team a few weeks ago.

They're still really good but that's a big loss for them.

Texas St can bang it pretty good if usc throws their #2 they will get beat.

Don't bet on it. I would love to have their #2. Dude is really good despite the garbage teams he threw against this year.

I mean, the USC head coach said it was a possibility just yesterday so I'll continue to go with that over KR until he says otherwise. Now, Stanky could be just blowing smoke but normal coach-speak would just say no we're sticking the normal plan...

The HC pretty much told us earlier in the week it was a real possibility, despite protestations here otherwise. It is no doubt a gamble, but they're playing with house money anyway.

I've been back and forth on this one in this very thread, but the decision is definitely rooted in logic even if contrarian...

Stankiewicz, there's a name I haven't heard in a while. I remember him as a utility infielder for the Astros back in the 90s. Playing behind guys like Caminiti and Biggio he didn't get a lot of ABs.

As was pointed out, above, examples of two seeds doing this seem to be lacking, to non-existent. I'm going to assume that USC throws their #1 so as not to tempt fate and end up having to use him in a loser's bracket game against Lamar.

Kendall actually said that UT and ECU are both throwing their #2 starters in game one and holding their aces for game 2. I've never heard of both a 2 and 3 seed pitching back in game 1 of a regional.
It makes a bit of sense for that regional. VCU is basically a sacrificial lamb and should be able to be beaten by both team's #3 pretty comfortably. They can save their ace for USC or the second elimination game.

USC pitching off makes less sense imo. Texas State is a legitimate threat and Lamar isn't exactly a slouch either. USC might need to burn both pitchers before even getting into the play in game.

VCU is a pretty good team and has some history of making noise in the post season

Tx State is my unbiased pick to win this regional. Hope I'm wrong.

Oh, I know. I think there's a chance they could upset UNC in game 1. Which is why it makes sense for both 2 and 3 to pitch off if UNC drops to losers.

But given the depth for Tenn and ECU, I just don't see the VCU #2 being able to hold them back.

Seems like USC is the consensus pick of random youtube videos.

Just to further add to this trend, UCSB is starting their Saturday guy in game 1 vs Tarleton in Austin.

Their ace is widely considered the top pitching prospect in the country and will be a top 5 pick. If they win tomorrow that matchup Saturday vs a Texas lineup that can run hot and cold would be very interesting.

Who do we want to win?

Or do we want a 17 inning game that burns through a lot of their arms?

I want USC to score 10 and for their pitcher to cruise for about 4. And then I want TXST to score 9 and make Stank pitch Edwards to close it out.

Do they double down and not pitch him again vs Holy Cross? Sounds really dumb it's another thought along these lines... until you think about playing 2 games and not pitching one of the best in college baseball.

Win and it was worth the gamble.
Lose and it's a fireable offense.

Yeah that would be interesting. I think on a macro level you should hold him again, but like you said if you went 0-2 without pitching by far your best player that is some historic egg on your face.

They've played SIGNIFICANTLY better after giving him the boot. Appears he was probably a cancer.

If your goal is to win the regional you have to double down and hold him. If your goal is to not go 0-2 them you pitch him.

See this is kind of where I'm at too, but it's certainly a great big cajones type of decision. I'm sure their coach will look more into the actual matchups but we are talking RPI 39 vs 200...

I agree. If I had to guess he won't start tomorrow but will be ready in the pen if things go south. If all goes well he'll start in the 1-1 game Sunday.
