hmm went from .230 hitter for two years with minimal plate appearances to over .300 this season with a lot more appearances

I agree his K rate is high but that is pretty good impovement and his line is better in conference IMO over Nico

I am not saying that the position is his. I am saying we might get a even better hitter in his senior year as well


He's also below average defensive 1B

…and he struck out over 40% of the time, with the bulk of his ABs against non-conference teams. Good to see him improving towards end of year RE K percentage, but for significant portions of the year he looked completely lost at the plate.

As for comparing him to Sorrell and Grahovac, he's not a guy anyone focused on and was therefore able surprise some folks. S & G got everyone's absolute best stuff, every AB. Plus Bindy looks like he's standing still compared to S&G when it comes to baserunning.

But again to my main point: We need more guys who can put the ball in play and get on base against even the elite pitchers so that we keep pressure on them and force their pitch count higher. Uncompetitive strikeouts do nothing but boost the confidence of the pitcher.

Back on track, it appears that USCe will basically be Coastal Carolina West next year. Almost the entire team in the portal with "do not contact" tags. Will be interesting to see who Coastal hires and how quickly they can rebuild.

LOL, there's a decent chance he watched me pitch in A ball. I played in Stockton for 1-1/2 seasons in 1995-1996 when he was 9-10 years old.

Not at all, unfortunately. I like the big league experience, though, and that he's obviously a grinder. Check out his career path, that's a dude who has seen and experienced a LOT. That lets me know that he has truly experienced struggle, so I can see him being a guy who will be able to provide much better emotional support to his pitchers. Believe it or not, that will go a long way towards elevated confidence and improved command. He should at the very least provide a big improvement in evaluation of high school and portal prospects.

Hope I get a chance to meet him, would love to pick his brain and see what he's about in terms of pitching philosophy.

I remember when we hired Weiner not having a clue who he was, but he did an long interview with TexAgs soon after getting hired and I remember getting really excited about him and the energy he was bringing. Hopefully I will feel the same way after hearing this guy talk about about his plan for the program too
