I just bought NAC at the Vitamine Shop. They had a lot and 3 brands to choose from.
Mom had her 2nd Moderna shot nearly a month ago and is still feeling puny from it. Any idea how long the vaccine hangover can last in 75+ YO's?
I would have her looked at as the vaccine side effects should be over by now. Need to make sure she does not have some other problem going on.Jetpilot86 said:

Hey Doc. Loved this thread over the past 14 months. Curious as to your thoughts on the new Delta variant.specifically for those who have gotten the J&J vaccine. I've read conflicting opinions. Several not to worry and others to get a booster from moderna. Thoughts?
Similar question here. I had moderna, but it seems there is concern that a booster, still not approved will be needed for Delta. I had quit taking the vitaman routine for Covid a month after my second shot. Do you advise restarting it for the elderly (me) with the Delta outbreak? I still have everything except the NAC and not sure where I can find it now that it is reclassified. How critical is it to get since it will be difficult to find?

You should be fine. Currently the vaccine shows to be effective against the variants. This is the media creating a frenzy. No need to worry until we see lots of vaccinated people getting sick enough to be hospitalized or die.TommyBoy said:

No need for vitamins unless you are exposed or at a higher risk event. Just take the vitamins you need for your health.3rd Generation Ag said:

I have a daughter who is a healthy 17 year old, has natural immunity from COVID infection in July 2020.
Would you recommend vaccinating her or not? So much misinformation out there now it's hard to tell.

No need vaccinating her. First her age group rarely gets sick enough for hospitalization or death. Secondly, she already has natural immunity. She will likely maintain a strong T-Cell response for many years. Until we have data saying otherwise no need to vaccinate her at this time.barney94 said:

What are your thoughts for the rest of us with children with a vaccine supposedly going to be available the end of the year? I feel like a hypocrite telling my kids they don't need it, when we got the vaccine as soon as we could.
I'm on the board of a private school with a sample size about 300 kids. Our experience the last 18 months is that junior high kids seem to be fairly contagious. Not at the level of adults, but enough to be an issue especially when they often exposed half the class and teachers.
Under that age and we only had minimal numbers test positive and that was after they were quarantined at home with positive family members. I guess what I'm saying is junior high kids could test positive after displaying symptoms before family members, but that wasn't the case with the vast majority of the younger kids. No hospitalizations regardless.
I'm leaning for recommending we require junior high kids to be vaccinated if its an widely available option based on that, but want all the input you can provide in order to make a quality decision. It would allow us to avoid going remote with entire classes after exposures and when subs can't be found when teachers are quarantined. The goal is normal, in classroom education.

Life Extension NAC as all their products should be high quality. NAC is not a panacea and is no substitute for vaccination. It *may* reduce severity...at least it does in a mouse.

COVID is here to stay in some form. The more people get vaccinated, the faster we can turn this damn thing into a cold. The Delta variant is going to blast through most of the 10-50 year old unvaccinated in the next 2 months, with lots of hospitalizations and ICU visits.
Good luck! COVID can be a long haul with an average length of 35 days, instead of the typical 3-5 day cold or flu.Odin said:

The mRNA vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer) are incredibly effective. Breakthroughs are possible, but rare with usually mild symptoms. For the immunocompromised, boosters could be approved. Pending.
The Delta variant is being spread by people 10-30 years of age. The sooner children can be vaccinated the better. We have a month until school starts which will coincide with a peaking Delta variant.AgLA06 said:

Dr. Coates, would like to get your opinions on the latest CDC mask guidance as this makes no sense to me other than another political ploy...
If you are vaccinated I see no medical reason for you to wear a mask. Can you test positive yes as I have mentioned before but it is not likely that you will have high viral titers for any significant length of time. Thus you are not likely to shed much virus to others. Is it possible of course it is. But with death rates not rising there is no sense in making a mask mandate. If you are vaccinated it should be your choice to wear a mask or not. I try to stay out of politics as I believe it has no place in medicine but this sure smells of a political motive.Gary79Ag said:

Did you ask your vaccinated patient who needed to delay the hip replacement if you could tell his freaking out story to thousands of people? I have really appreciated your advice and insight throughout all of this, but if I read a negative anecdote about my dad on Facebook, I would be disappointed.
