for those that are out or getting low on household cleaner, hand sanitizer, and especially toilet paper: looks like most of that stuff can't be ordered online and delivered until May or June right now.. and all the stores seem to be out of stock, at least every time I've been to the stores in the last 3 weeks. HEB curbside pickup has to be placed over a week in advance right now and I've been told many items, especially TP, cleaner, etc., won't be in that order when you go to pick it up. I really don't want to drive to 3-4 different stores every day looking for stuff only to continue to not find it.

there's gotta be a few other options before my family and I resort to defecating on the neighbor's lawn (because I know they're hoarding a sheet-ton of TP).

further, Dr. Coats suggests that we should avoid the store if we can, but WholeFoods/Amazon won't take delivery orders as their shopping windows are "sold out", HEB curbside has to be placed for sometime over a week from now, etc.. so what are people doing?

Not really what you were looking for but a Japanese toilet seat would solve one of those problems. We have had some problems finding things we need but overall not too bad yet. Our HEB seems to have pretty much everything other than paper products. Hoping the TP and paper towels are in our order when it arrives today.

To get TP at a box store, the only real option is to go right when they open. You'll be limited to 1 package of whatever came in.

A lot of restaurants are selling TP so you might check there.

If you're in B/CS, try this link for places that sell it.

For basic (not cleaning products, toilet paper, papwer towels, etc) we are using Target delivery (shipt?) with relatively decent success. They add like a $9 shipping fee + tip but vs exposure the cost isnt too hight. We just wipe or wash everything off before putting it up.

For toilet paper, we have about 18 rolls left. I had been searching amazong day and night. late last week i snagged some on Amazon (pure luck) and it is set to deliver on April 20. I think we will make it just fine but it will be closer than i like...

I think to find TP, you have to be there in line before they open. We try to limit our grocery visits to about once a week now. If you strike out at HEB, go get in line at Costco or SAMS. Also, CVS and Walgreens have some paper goods at demonstrably higher prices, but can work in a pinch. (so to speak)

As for Paper Towels, you could always use dish rags instead. Just need more rags.

We are struggling to find things like dishwasher soap and hand soap, since all this started. Staying at home continuously, and cooking lots more meals at home, means you have to have supplies to clean dishes, etc. I found one packet at HEB, and placed an online order for our usual stuff, so hopeful that it comes in, as advertised.

Heb at my san antonio location had everything i needed this past saturday at around 8:30am, including paper products. Limitations on amount help a lot with their inventory. Also did a small curbside order about 10 days ago that we pick up today.

My wife and I are doing a mix of HEB curbside & Walmart pickup. We also signed up for this thing called "Imperfect Produce" the first box is supposed to come this week, we'll see how that goes. If anyone has experience with that service, what do you think?

In terms of cleaning supplies and TP, I was able to get enough prior to the rush to last us a couple of months. I guess I was in the group that started the rush before it was hard to find. My suggestion would be to keep trying to find online and pickup/drive-through options for those items, eventually you should be able to find something I would hope.

I've found most of the high dollar stuff if you go about an hour after opening with minimal waiting. I hit up Target & HEB this week. Toilet paper & paper towels were available at Target, paper towels at HEB (I don't think it got TP in that night since I didn't see anyone walking out with TP). I was able to get Clorox wipes at Costco last week.

Also check the gas stations. I was in 7/11 yesterday and they had a small cleaning supply section that was stocked.

I am going into Wal Mart every few days. They actually had toilet paper this morning. And flower.

If you get there early enough you have a good chance of getting anything you need.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

The only problem with getting their early is potentially having to stand in a non socially distanced line... but I haven't actually done that so I don't know what the situation is like. If you stand in line at HEB at 7:30am are they making you be six feet apart?

We did an HEB pick up order yesterday for next Tuesday morning. We asked for paper towels and toilet paper, we'll see if we get any!

I go to the store once a week, down from 3 or so times prior to SIP. It's the best I can do. I go around 8:00 am and have seen tp (small amounts) but no Purell etc.

We use Shipt- for a small upcharge and tip, they shop for you (here in Georgetown, they go to HEB). Have only gone inside HEB once in the last month. We haven't tried to get things like clorox or TP through them, though.

Here in BCS there are several local restaurants that are selling toilet paper and cleaning products. Maybe check with your local faves and see if they are doing the same? Often times, these restaurants are posting on Facebook that they have available to sell. There are many places trying to sell their produce and other perishable items as well.

I don't understand why, if we are having to place orders with HEB 4+ days in advance, orders slated to be fulfilled on a particular day that ordered something like toilet paper do not receive at least one package. We are providing inventory requests far enough ahead of time that HEB should, theoretically, be able to gauge demand and dispatch enough to fulfill that demand. Why should people who give that kind of advanced information to HEB be denied while people coming in at 7 am be given preference? I don't fully understand how this hasn't happened. Now perhaps there is not enough to supply fulfill the demand that was requested via online shopping.

To answer my own question it would appear that HEB does not fulfill requests from central distribution points, like Amazon. They instead fulfill requests from current stock at the local store and only when it is time to actually fulfill the request. Unfortunately this means that people who plan and order ahead do not get any benefit. In fact it would appear the best choice is to do shopping first thing in the morning.

If my assumptions are true it would seem HEB needs to adapt to the current situation, start trying to fulfill online request from central distribution points and reserving those goods for the online orders. This would force more people to using online shopping to get what they want and smooth out supply issue. It would not eliminate them and there are a percentage of shoppers who would never use online shopping (my parents) but it would allow those who have ordered online, significantly in advance of the current days fulfillment, to receive more of what they ordered.

I know this is much easier said than done. However, as a family who has done the bulk of our ordering online, including toilet paper, and not hoarding it is a touch frustrating that our requests keep going unfulfilled. Luckily we have used the Blue Baker option to add industrial size toilet paper to a recent dine out order so we are fine for now.

The Wal-Mart near me is definitely metering out paper products at intervals during the day. I saw a crew loading up the shelves mid-afternoon, with slightly crazed shoppers ready to go full in black Friday door opening.

My wife is doing one big shopping trip every week. Wearing a mask with hand santizer in tow. Tries to go first thing in the morning when they open. Drops the mask in the washing machine upon getting home. It's not a perfect solution, just trying to minimize risk. We have 3 kids so there's a lot of stuff we have to buy unfortunately.

I've been using CurbSide and ordering fresh fruits/veggies, eggs, milk and a few other non essentials. I could survive 3-6 months on the food I have at my house but beans/rice/meat get old after a few days. I don't always get what I order/want but it is enough to keep me going crazy.

I am probably taking it too far, but I spray all the packaged items down with diluted bleach and wipe dry before putting them in the fridge.

If I make it through this I am definitely adding 2-3 months worth of powdered eggs and milk to my list.

Edit: I don't have a wife or kids so I can go several months on a single pack of TP. I bought an extra back in January when they locked down Wuhan (just in case). Im set until September.

you want HEB to completely scrap their logistical network and erase any benefit of having locations spread throughout the city because you can't get toilet paper?

The HEB curbside orders are pulled just like a normal shoppers. Usually a couple of hours before your pickup time. If they have it on the shelf when your order is pulled, you will get it.

Also, trucks arrive at the store throughout the day, the truck with that day's supply of TP may not arrive until 1 pm and the product doesn't hit the shelves until 3 pm. My sister called me from HEB one day at 3 pm asking if I needed any since they had a sheriff's deputy handing it out.

I don't think I ever said that. I also acknowledged that it is much harder done than said. However, I don't think this would require HEB scrapping their entire logistical network. It would require enhancements for sure. I would also bet they are looking at how to do this right now. This is the future and to not begin planning for it would be a bad idea. They'll have their lunch eaten by Amazon if that is their attitude towards fulfillment of online shopping. The future arrived suddenly, I know it takes time to adapt.

Yup. Seen them fulfilling orders this way. I am just saying that for a customer like me who orders 4+ days in advance online products should be pulled the morning of fulfillment prior to store opening not at 12:00 pm that day for my 2:00 pm pickup. I've lost all incentive to place orders when that happens. In normal times it worked fine. Today it's penalizing people who are trying to follow the recommendations for social distancing.

I totally understand it is what it is. Generally HEB does a very good job so I'm not really unhappy with them.

the future of JIT TP delivery? You don't think this is a bit of an unusual case?

The benefits of being able to do delivery and pickup at each individual store far outweigh the drawbacks. The process is meant to be a convenience for the shopper. If you don't think it's fair, then you always have the option to go to the store.

As far as Amazon goes, I use their Fresh delivery service and they have way less in stock. Last time I ordered, there was no fresh meat, limited dairy, no paper products, etc. I wouldn't use them as a great example.

Just got back from HEB, was able to get a 12 pack of their brand. First time in my life since high school I've been proud of scoring a 12 pack. It's a lottery essentially, like said before, it's just when you get there versus the last truck. Social distanced in a very short line to get in, did have people walking close and I gave them the stink eye to back off.

Lots of masks today worn by shoppers.

for TP...... a different solution........

if you are "regular" and only go once or twice a day and you really run out and are at home.....

wait until you have to go.....then shower after.
