We are getting out 1-2x's a week to go to the store between shopping for us and getting stuff my inlaws/parents need that they were not able to order.

I found a huge thing of TP at Lowe's CS Wednesday about 3PM. Twice last week I passed up Clorox wipes and now I am kicking myself for it.

We wipe everything down that comes into the house with a clorox wipe and throw packaging away when not needed. I then wipe down cabinets & door handles and then take a shower/change clothes.

I wipe down everything in my car that I touch after leaving a store and use hand sanitizer.

I have been bathing in hand sanitizer... I just had a personal panic attack after reading the back of Clorox wipes... apparently you have to use enough wipes to make sure the surface is wet for 4 minutes in order to sanitize the the surface well... FML.

What kinda BS marketing allows them to make claims that they kill 99.9% of virus if allowed to be damp for 4 min when the wipe evaporates within 15-20 seconds even fresh out of the box.
I'm far from an expert, so take it with a gigantic grain of salt. Assuming you're talking about sanitizing something that you're not going to be constantly touching, I think you'd be okay with a Clorox wipe followed by washing your hands.
That was my thought as well. It might not be 99.9% but its probably 90%+. I guess ill start soaking stuff for 5 min in a 1% sodium hypochlorite solution.
Are you talking about things like groceries that you bring into your home? Non-perishables should be fine if you wipe them down and let them sit on the shelf for a day or two. Perishables should be good if you cook them (I believe I've read there's no known transmission through cooked food).
Im mostly talking about bagged veggies, milk, cheese and other things in the refrigerator that I grab and eat with out cooking.

I don't plan on eating any perishables that aren't included in a recipe for the next couple months...

Some of the toilet paper crisis is being caused not by hoarding (though that contributes to it), but rather by supply chain changes. Individual families are purchasing FAR more TP than normal. The channels that normally supply restaurants, businesses, gas stations, etc have more than normal. The ones that supply grocery stores/individuals are running low. We need to switch them over. This is not an easy task. It's enhanced by hoarding, but it's not solely caused by that.
I read a similar article that said commercial TP and home TP are made at different plants. Since people are staying home, there is a glut of the commercial, the large rolls in the stall dispensers, and a shortage of TP we get at the grocery stores. Switching over plants from commercial to retail isn't practical, or at least it's not something they are willing to do, so until we go back to work, there will be shortages.

Interesting reading.

ABQ is not that bad, guess a lower population density makes it easier to locate stuff.

Have not needed to but toilet paper, still had a huge pack I bought several months ago.

Pantry is chock full of canned food, so no need to really do any shopping.

I still want to hear if someone gave a crack at making their own bread and how it went. I picture a I Love Lucy episode.
We've been making it for a while, easy recipe, yummy.
We stocked up on bread flour pretty early.

Not sure why someone thinks you have to be making like regular bread or beer.....

we stocked up on flour and we've been using it extensively for

breading things - fried
pancakes
waffles
cookies
biscuits
cornbread
cupcakes
etc.

I did curbside with heb in houston and got toilet paper. I also went into a large shell station with a homemade mask and they had 2 rolls of toilet psper left. I got them both

Curbside here in TN won't let you get toilet paper, water, etc. You have to go inside the store.

I found some in the RV section.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I saw several people getting toilet paper in their curbside orders when I stopped by to pick up my food. I also got 80% of what I ordered in my cart. Hopefully this is a sign that the food/TP rush is dying down or at least that the supply chain is adapting to the new demand.

Checkers at kroger in Richmond, tax using gloves, but not changing after each person. If they touch something with virus on it, they just keep passing to everyone else's stuff they touch.

Glad to hear people are actually using it.

I"m curious...obviously you know there's products like Aunt Jemima pancake mix and Pioneer biscut mix, etc. Why did you decide to go the extra mile here? Taste better? Just have time to kill, and "why not"? Or were the other products just sold out and you had no choice?

I went shopping at Kroger yesterday afternoon and they had plenty of tp. You had to choose between the 4 packs of the Kroger brand knockoff of sharman or Angel Soft lavender scent Dbl rolls in a 12 pack (maybe it was 18). But I was happy with either. I guess I just hot luck.

You'd have to ask my wife...... I just buy what is on the list.

But she always did these things that way. doesn't use "mixes" for much of anything.

PS I forgot gravy.

A number of reasons.

1. A lot of people just like making stuff. I do.
2. When you make it yourself, you control what goes into it.
3. Cheaper.
4. Mama's recipe.

When I was growing up, we never made pancakes from a box. Cake yes. But we made pancakes from scratch. Very easy.

They are probably wearing gloves to protect themselves, not the customers.

Checkers at Kroger Rock Prairie did not have masks or gloves. I was very surprised.

For you sliver folks,
I did a pickup at Brookshire's yesterday at 2:00.

Very little waiting time, and while they did not fill my order on paper goods or health meds (Airborne, Zicam, etc.),
they did have the meat, eggs, cheese, and bread that I ordered.

Will use them again.

I am running low on Clorox Wipes.

What should I do to wipe down groceries? I am open to the idea of just getting the coronavirus but wife and kids are not.

I have a big jug of hand santizer. Do i just put that on a clean cloth (like you would soap) and use that to wipe down?

A few options:

You can run the stuff under hot water and lather soap on it. Probably better than using wipes because the directions for the wipes indicate that a lot more than a once-over is required. For things that aren't water proof, squirt some soap on a damp paper towel.

I've been tearing wipes in half if I have to use them. And don't forget about the liquid in the bottom of the container once the wipes are gone. You can still wet some paper towels with the liquid.

Do you have bleach? You can make a bleach solution in a spray bottle.

If the stuff doesn't have to be refrigerated, store it separate for a few days before using it. If you do touch it, just wash your hands after.

If there is still liquid in the container you can use papertowels with the rest of the liquid.

I bought a spray bottle today at HEB (well its in my 4PM pickup)

I plan on doing this: Mix 1 cup (240 mL) of bleach in 1 gallon of water. Wash surfaces with the bleach mixture. If surfaces are rough, scrub them with a stiff brush. Rinse surfaces with clean water.

Just to try it, I placed an HEB curb-side order just over a week ago and went to pick it up as soon as I got the text that it was ready today.

Order placed over a week ago included anti-bac hand soap, household cleaner, paper towels, toilet paper, and a few other grocery items. I allowed substitutes on everything.

Text I received this evening about an hour before my scheduled pickup time: "Your order had some substitutions. You can reply REMOVE to remove all subs." I didn't reply to this.

Order received when I went to pick it up: no anti-bac hand soap, no household cleaner, no paper towels, no toilet paper. Several of the grocery items were substituted.... what a joke. At least they had the beer and the Boston Butt I wanted.

I guess I will just continue driving to and walking into 3-4 grocery stores per day for another month while I continue to not find soap or cleaner anywhere. Lol.

I guess different places have different missing items. I've had no problem finding soap, meat, etc. The only thing we've remotely had issues with was tp, but can still find it in single rolls at one grocery store every time.

I think I'm in the minority. I'm in an essential business, and work in Gatlinburg. The town has essentially shut down the tourists, so we're in a ghost town.

I live about an hour and fifteen minutes from here...and the grocery stores where I live are packed and picked over. Not so in Gatlinburg. It's really weird. I go to the store in Gatlinburg and no one is there, and the shelves are pretty much fully stocked (except for toilet paper). Because it's a tourist town, the prices are significantly higher than if I went to my local Wal Mart (wish there were HEB's in Tennessee), but getting groceries on a very quick basis is worth it.

Toddy, food city in Maryville has had everything I was looking for if I go early on weekdays or late on Saturdays. Even At least single rolls of TP. If you can't find anything or need anything, let me know.

1 quart of water + 2 tbps bleach

Wipe everything down with this. I wipe everything down with this, including cereal boxes frozen food boxes, and fruit peels. When I'm done I use it to wipe down my counters.

The only thing we clean is stuff that has to go immediately in the refrigerator. Everything else we let sit in the sun for a couple of hours or in the garage for 24 hrs if it's raining. Odds of the virus surviving either is very low.

Be careful, the cdc says 1 cup to 5 gallons. I see they have that stronger ratio for cleaning mold off hard surfaces.

The 1 to 5 is what they say for sanitizing the rest.

Thanks Zoo. Ironically, I mentioned that particular store to Mrs. Toddy. She's a bit paranoid about crowds and encouraged me to stay away from that place. Based on what you said, I may have to drop by.
