Like someone mentioned, if only allowed at 25% capacity, maybe some of the restaurants can utilize outdoor dining in parking lots to spread more people out. Not ideal and I know some won't be able to do that.
I'd dine in my car, in the parking lot, just to get out of my house.

Hello, Keller's anyone?

Open it 100%. Going to cost the restaurants even more to open at 25% than keeping it closed.

25% capacity in college station

Geez , most restaurants in town have an hour wait anytime Thursday- Sunday at full capacity.

So I guess if they are at capacity and you put your name on a wait list you have to wait in your car?

Whatever I'm just glad we're on the track back to normal life

Can wait to to hear " can I start y'all off with a cold beer maybe some queso"
BCS is a ghost town after students leave, doubt this will be a problem.

You have not been to college station in awhile .. college station is anything but a " ghost town" after students leave.

How do you stop a local barber shop from opening? In San Antonio, the mayor likely is against this, so why even worry about policing salons?

I think this is a good summary of the gap between your projections and my own:

I see a vaccine coming in 12-18 months, so if we could keep our new cases containable, then it seems likely that we could have a vaccine in time to save a lot of people. You do not seem to be coming more from the stand point that we can't afford to wait around and see if we get a vaccine so we should just move on and adjust.

Here is someone much smarter than I am explaining how reducing the R0 reduces the number of people who get infected:

You have to read the whole thread unfortunatley.

A restaurant running at 25% capacity pre-covid will be out of business in a month or two. How is this progress? And for what?

What does he have against hair places? How is a masked hair cut unsafe but a restaurant where people are hoovering up enchiladas is totally fine?

I honestly do not say this trying to be rude, but I do not think anybody asked for your opinion.

Our elected officials did believe they were saving lives by ordering the shut down. The CDC presented 4 scenarios, ranging from the "do nothing" scenario with 1.7MM dead and the shelter at home scenario where 200K people died and two in-between scenarios. Therefore, it seems that the implication from within experts in the administration is that you could save lives by what you do in response to the virus.

Abbott made the ludicrous statement that we are doing this so we do not have to close again.

We cannot and will not close again no matter what happens. Floating that out there is my number one problem with all of this. Quit feeding this fear.

It's a Coronavirus. Most if us are going to get it.
We cannot ignore this! We were explicitly told without reservation or equivocation that the purpose for them taking away our rights was to give the hospitals time to prepare. Anything that the government says contrary to that is a bold faced lie and should be challenged. I realize that the fear mongers and the frightened folks are going to be screaming bloody murder in a few days when the rates go up, but THIS WAS EXPECTED. You are not allowed to change the narrative when it comes to our freedoms.

I agree it doesn't make the most sense, but the explanation I can think of has to do with prior preparations at each business. Restaurants always have SOME health measures in place, but hair salons and gyms aren't policed the same and may not be prepared yet. Not saying I agree or disagree, but that's the best I can figure.

25% is only for two and half weeks. I just hope it allows establishments to work through through their staffing and inventory issues while trying to ramp back up and isnt instead a purgatory that forces places to 'be open' but with no customers and no solid, consistent traffic.

Not sure why that bothers you so much - I think he's basically saying the same thing, just replace his "so we don't have to" with "because we can't" and you guys are in 100% agreement.

Even if we all agree we can't possibly shut down again, I doubt you're going to hear a governor speak in absolutes like that.

Right, and he refused to box himself in on a specific data point or points that would require the reimplementation of restrictions. That was the number one thing I was hoping for out of this.

As a public official, you have to balance the positive with some "appropriate fear" so that people won't just go crazy and cause a big spike. There is almost certainly going to be an increase in infection and death, and we are trying to ensure that it is a manageable increase.

I will listen to his opinion. You're not the arbiter of who can post what here.

He's not saying that he can't post here or can't have an opinion on the matter.

I think he's more or less just saying that he didn't "sign up" for anything. A decision was made for him. He is free to combat that decision if he so chooses.

I would imagine with the 25% occupancy most restaurants will just continue to do take out and delivery. It seams like most of the restaurants have just gotten the system down for streamlining take out... Also, I have been eating in my truck because I'm over soggy food.

I bet a lot do open up to get used to having customers in house again. 25% isn't long term. It's two weeks. They can survive that with the idea of preparing for 50% and eventually back to normal.

I kind of thought that too. I mean, where are you going that you need to look sharp? I've trimmed my hair a few times in the last year when my look got a bit unruly, and I couldn't get to my girl. Nobody noticed (or at least said anything to me!)
