Thought this was interesting. It seems unlikely to me that things will be "normal" for football this fall, but it was interesting to see some thoughts on what stadium operators will be able to do to reopen in a new way.

Some good airtime for Kyle Field and the AD in the second half of this. Was on the front page of the WSJ today. Cool PR in a weird way I guess

The video brings up a lot of good points. Also stopping large gatherings such as sporting events and concerts was about the only thing I was in agreement with when we shut the country down. That and protect the elderly which our country did not do. However, financially sports needs fans to work. Also we dont know what the situation will be in three months when the season starts. So right now cutting down the capacity may seem like a good idea but in three months filling the stadium may not seem so crazy!

I would go to a stadium or concert now if I could, as the virus poses about as much threat to me as driving there from my house.

Except this isn't about you. (and I know that simple fact is so very hard to understand in 2020)

For the record I think everything should be opened up at the moment EXCEPT for things where you have large gatherings in enclosed spaces. That should probably still wait a few weeks.

But what's the end game? What does it mean to say going to a football game isn't about us? We all the have the choice to go or not. If you fear a massive outbreak as a result of these games overwhelming the hospitals, I still say that's extremely unlikely, particularly of the game is filled with 95% lower risk people and the elderly/people with co-morbidities mostly stay home.

A big part of me thinks we are trying to hard to suppress this thing when in reality, we need to let it cycle through the less risk people ASAP so that us, the elderly, and co-morbidity population/high risk people can all move on as quickly as possible. If you get the healthier people sick, then the virus loses steam and you let the higher risk come back out of hiding even sooner. Instead of sequester us all and continue to drag this out.

I'll change my tune if a vaccine becomes a legit possibility in the next few months. Otherwise we are just delaying this thing and not really reducing the total amount of deaths

I'm 100% open up most everything with the exception of confined spaces where people are standing still. If you think that is safe, then you aren't following this closely.

Stadium style seating, even outside is really shaky. That's really where the whole italy thing got started. A single minor league type soccer game.

Agreed. I think outdoor sporting events will be fine if everybody is required to wear masks.

If we have major outbreaks and hospital capacity goes in the pooper then those things would be shutdown again.

There is no method/enforcement to make high risk people stay home, that's the issue. Because we have selfish high risk people, nobody gets to go.

Having been to quite a few TAMU games lately, the entire 2nd deck is just jammed full of high risk people that paid a crap ton for those seats and PSL. No way we can get them to stay home while the millenials go in their place, none.

Cloth masks ain't doing diddly squat if you are standing near a person with covid for 4 hours. Do we really think that's a legit answer?

And to be honest, you run more of a risk of heat exhaustion or dehydration. What are the rules? Can you Remove it for a second to your chin to drink water? Do you have thousands of extra people there to monitor 100k? People will wear them at their Chin half the time

To me, it just makes it worse, is a complete nuisance, and doesn't solve anything

I just don't see it.

The logic missing in having alumni at football games is that you could have the alumni infect the students, and cause a student level outbreak that closes the school down.

The Karens of the world won't let that happen, and honestly on that point I agree with them. Recreational activity needs to wait. You can draw that line in a lot of ways, but college football game is on the wrong side of that line full stop.

I can see a reasonable, although shaky argument to put the students in the stands only.

What if the high risk people understand the risks and want to go vs. hide under their beds? Why does that make them selfish...why is the government trying to protect them if they understand the risks and want to go?

Are you saying they have a high-risk of dying from the virus? If they want to go and understand the risks...let them go.

Only way I see this being feasible is if only students attend. Unless something changes drastically. This would allow for less spread from other locales getting into college station, plus students aren't high risk. 30,000 students is about the 30% that has been discussed if it comes to it.

I hope it doesn't come to this, but if you make the decision to do 30% capacity, then that may be the way to go.

If I had to predict, I'd say Kyle field is (at minimum) 75% full come SEC play.

I don't feel high risk people understand the risks. I'm not for nanny state here, ever. But we need cooler heads to win here. And there's just no reason for fans to be in person at Kyle this fall.

We can't risk elementary schools not re opening and a gigantic case surge right at elem opening would be the second economy wave that finally takes us all down.

Why on God's green earth would elementary schools not opening this coming fall even be up for consideration? The kids are obviously not at risk and elementary aged kids have parents that are in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s. They are not at risk either. Both the parents and their kids are taking a greater risk driving to school throughout the coming school year.

As far as college football, there is also no reason to not have fans there either. There are not a lot of 70, 80, and 90 year olds in the stands.

As far a cooler heads prevailing, if you are still scared just post your address here on TexAgs and one of us will come by and nail you shut inside your home and cut out a food delivery slot. We will check back in on you in 2021 sometime. May the odds ever be in your favor.

Again. Use your head.

Schools will use hospital capacity to guide opening and re closing. You send a bunch of old people to football games you get shuttered schools. Read the TEA memos on this. They want to shutter somewhere between 50-75% capacity but will allow 18.5% in some districts that are huge.

I think we'll see schools, at least at the beginning. They may need to shut down again part way through the year which is why they need to use that time to be better prepared to implement a learn from home system that is easily accessible to everyone without a major drop off in education quality.

Don't you realize, nobody cares anymore. That was the ultimate scare tactic. It's been spread. It's been spreading since the new year. I was just at a busy park in Denver with no masks. Yet a few people are running and biking 20+ ft away from people with ****ty face masks on. It's the dumbest thing ever.

Thankfully the majority are done with goalposts moving and realize the hospitals never got overrun, but rather got shot down and nurses on furlough due to lack of funds.

This is the worst argument. How do you ever become okay with this risk? It's never going to be mitigated. There will always be diseases and viruses that are spread by asymptomatic people.
