We don't have enough beds for that so I don't see how opening carefully isn't a smart thing to do.

Lol. Not all the people would go to the hospital at the same time. There's no certainty the hospitals would be overran. If certain areas got close then they'd ration care. Temporary pain is better than months worth of lockdowns and restrictions.

1% IFR is pretty grim, no matter how you slice it

hospitalizations are much lower than expected

it's much much more deadly than the flu for those 60+
