As far as I can tell, in Texas, the only people on that list who aren't getting the vaccine before people over 65 or adults with other health conditions are childcare providers, congregate care facility staff, teachers/education staff, postal service workers, food production/delivery/processing, and transportation. Oh, and dental staff.

For the life of me, I can't understand why most of those aren't prioritized.

As I've read over and over on this board, people who "are scared" can stay home. While I hate that phrase, many people over 65 do have the choice to stay home or to limit their exposure to the public. The people on this list don't have that choice, not if we want to keep our country going, which is what I thought was one of our primary goals.

Also, I couldn't find supporting evidence for the graphic you posted. It's interesting that whoever created it left LTC facility residents off of 1A. They are part of 1A, though, as can be seen on the Illinois Department of Public Health website.

Texas has already opened it up to 65+

Same in Florida and Georgia

It's complete chaos right now, no argument there. But 65+ people could line up / sign up as of last week.

The death and hospital utilization is concentrated in the older population. That's the crisis right now. We need to address that crisis.

Of course, everything is complicated and all central planning is made absurd by how the vacc demand, especially in the 1B tranche, is so weak compared to 65+. It's insane to allow them first bite of the apple while the population who has extremely high demand and will fully utilize supply sits on the sidelines. They should at best be in the same tier as the olds.

Dental staff got absolutely forgotten in this. The top exposure risk yet not explicitly listed on any phase, federal or state.

Yep. Easy way to waste a vial. This is how I got my vaccine. Last minute, 10 dose vial about to go to waste. Better find 10 people to use it.

Instead lets punish it AND waste it.

I'm frustrated for you. I had my dental cleaning a few months ago and kept thinking about how exposed the hygienist was the entire time. It makes no sense to leave them/you off of the priority list.

woudn't dental be healthcare with face to face risk? No reason to make it more specific. I always considered them healthcare.

Yeah I think you are reading it wrong. I'm a psychologist that does face to face testing and I am almost certain that I would technically be in 1a (I also do a lot of psych hospital work, but have not gotten vaccine yet).

It was our understanding dentistry hasn't been included in Texas yet, the same word is coming out of TDA, TDMR and the map on the ADA website: https://success.ada.org/en/practice-management/patients/covid-19-vaccine-regulations-for-dentists-map

Some states have dental as 1a, some 2, etc, with several allowing dentists to administer the vaccine too.

We fortunately got ours (round 1 anyway), but were just surprised by the categorizations.

And I am in urgent need to find and see a dentist but it now will have to wait if I can till this covid mess is better. If it is high risk for them, it is also high risk for me.

If they have to test and screen daily, then they are health care workers and should be first priorty for the shots.

Let's just be glad we don't (all) have to face this kind of ludicrous vaccine roll out.

My mom was offered (and received) the vaccine on Monday because she's on the board of our small town hospital. Is that fair? Probably not. But I'm not complaining.

I was at the dentist on Tuesday. She said she expected her staff would get it next week. (This is in Maryland)

Different counties seem to have different rules. In Tarrant County, you self attest when registering what it is that puts you into group 1B.

I self attested and got the vaccine this morning. I'd say roughly 50% there were plausibly over 65. Another 25 % were very obese. The other 25%? Well, not a single person there today asked us why we qualified to be there.

I think its be a piece of cake for someone to claim some comorbidity and get the vaccine. They didnt ask for proof when registering and they didnt ask for proof today.

EDIT: And I received email notification last night at 9 PM that my slot was this morning between 9 and noon.

I was just offered the vaccine "in the very near future" through the military. Kind of frustrating that people of such low risk are apparently getting the option while people like my parents wait.

I was there this morning also. I got a phone call after 8 last night to come in this morning. I thought it was well run.

I thought all but a few looked over 65. I am 72 and most people don't think I am out of my late 50's. Other than the walker. It sort of gives it away.

I did see a few couples where one spouse looked a little younger. And we need to remember that there are people who are 1A still getting the shots. That nurse could still be in early 20's.

All good points. It was run extremely well. I thought it was kinda funny that when I got all the screening done in my phone and got the bar code email, the guy working the line lifted the divider and let me cut in front of about 500 people.

Are they checking addresses? I registered with Tarrant even though I live in McKinney and made no effort to hide that putting in my McKinney address. I check multiple high risk boxes and just want to get the vaccine as soon as possible regardless of where that is. I am prepared to be turned away if that is the requirement but will definitely go if called before my name comes up in Collin County or other private providers.

Good question. I had to show my ID and they looked closely - I don't know if they checked address as I live in Arlington.

Texas DSHS not happy about the speed of the rollout and has basically said "just get it out!" to providers so you're going to see different protocols and lists depending on where you call, who you talk to, etc.

All of our first delivery of doses are spoken for / scheduled / being administered through EOM with following shipment only allotted to 2nd dose. We just have a running list.

If I were high risk or had family that was high risk, I'd be getting myself on several lists.

There is a provider in Grand Prairie that has decided to change up who they offer the shots to. In addition to 1a and 1b, they are also vaccinating teachers/educators with valid school id.

1a is allowed to the front of the line followed by 1b and educators.

Couldn't remember the thread you had asked about Bell county availability.

My parents just got called for their appointments for mid afternoon tomorrow at Brookshire's in Salado. They were told on Monday that they were still going through the 1a's and it would be later this week.

My mother in law lives in Bell county and was recently diagnosed with an auto immune disorder got a call to go down Saturday to Dell in Austin to get hers.

My sis in law was able to get them on two waiting lists so here's hoping. Also, I have a date for second shot so that is good.

In Collin County they said it was best to make an appointment with CVS or Walgreens. Wife who is a pharmacist at a small compounding pharmacy got an appointment with Walgreens and both of her parents did with them being over 65. The appointments fill up fast and both of them were able to get spots after checking on their website after midnight. While not smooth at least a process is being rolled out with the major retail pharmacies.

None of them have PCPs since her parents just moved here and hers just got dropped by insurance so we did not even look at the PCP route.
