Do you know which HEB this was? Been calling around all morning looking for a vaccine for my dad who's high risk. This might be super helpful! Thanks

Chill out. You bet I believe a healthcare worker, police, fire, EMS forts responder whatever race gets it before an appraisal district clerk.

Honestly at this point they should just give it first come first served. Trying to plan the rollout based on complex tiers and getting everyone slotted into the right risk group is failing. From a public health perspective, getting the most people vaccinated the most quickly is the answer we need now.

HEB at Tower Point told us today that they haven't received any vaccine for 1B and weren't making a list. Our PCP from St Jo's has no idea when she'll have any available. Walgreen's said 1B vaccine would be available in April (!!!!)
Any idea why we are so behind projections in terms of numbers vaccinated thus far? It's alarming the very slow rate compared to other countries we are at.bigtruckguy3500 said:
There have been 2.13 million doses of vaccine administered as of this afternoon (https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/covid-vaccine-tracker-global-distribution/), I'm sure there will be some people that sneak through. Sometimes it's because of influence, sometimes because of luck, and sometimes it's because there's extra dosage than anticipated (either b/c people declined or no-showed), and they open it up to other folks.
This is a pretty unprecedented endeavor. If we wanted a perfect rollout we should've started making a prioritized list a month ago and set up vaccine distribution sites under a central authority. But two months ago, no one would've thought we'd be where we are now.
I'm too in awe of what all just happened in less than a year to complain about a few people getting their vaccine a little early.
Thanks for weighing in. I hope we improve this process or healthy middle aged people like me won't be vaccinated until I am old!bigtruckguy3500 said:
Yeah, the holidays don't help things. But also we're a massive country compared to either Israel or the UK. We're sending shipments of a few hundred to a few thousand to 50 states, however many territories we have, plus our overseas military bases. Each state has their own distribution plans as opposed to Israel and the UK which have a national plan.
I'd imagine if we tried a single unified national plan we'd have people complaining that we should've left it to the states.
And then quite a few people are declining the vaccine, which leaves hospitals scrambling to find replacements. I know I got my vaccine a week or more earlier than expected because enough people declined it ahead of me.
Small towns, and places without ultracold storage have to rely on the Moderna vaccine instead of the Pfizer (which was approved later).
I don't think people started planning early enough on the logistics of how to distribute the vaccine. I think a plan should have been in place in November, and a prioritized list ready before hospitals even got the vaccine. We only started making a list in the second week of December.
Lots of variables. Everyone wants to blame someone or something, and yeah, this could've gone a lot better, but as someone said, even the best plans ho to hell as soon as boots hit the ground.
I agree entirely with this.cone said:
personally, I expect a rhythm and a momentum to develop over the next month
we're a giant ship at sea. it takes a while but when we get turned in the right direction all this in-the-moment hand-wringing will seem so distant.
reminds me of all the criticism about testing availability early on. give it a sec.
that said, I don't buy the argument coming out of the feds that Americans would be too freaked out by the military to have them dispense vaccine. they could certainly be a part of the rollout.

According to Collin County Health, they don't have vaccines available to the public or for healthcare workers. The map coordinated by the state says they have the vaccine. What are they doing with it? Any ideas?
"For healthcare workers who wish to receive the vaccine, please speak to your employer regarding their vaccination plans. For healthcare facilities who wish have their staff vaccinated, the following options are as available:
- Contact your parent hospital to request to be included in their vaccination plan.
- Register to become a provider of the COVID-19 vaccine for your staff, patients, and/or community. You can find information on the necessary steps to enroll at the DSHS website by clicking here. The minimum quantity of vaccine that can be received as a provider is 100 doses. If you do not have 100 staff members or patients to vaccinate, it is recommended that you find other facilities in similar circumstances and register together.
- Find a pharmacy or clinic that is already registered as a vaccine provider that is able to vaccinate your organization."

My 80+ yo in laws got on a list with their PCP last week and got called in and got their first moderna vaccine in the doctors office today. Was surprised. Their doctor is part of Christus and maybe the hospitals had a bunch left over?
Based on everyone in this thread, 1b vaccines has been hard to find. Their doctor told them a week ago it could be march.AgsMyDude said:nhamp07 said:

You do realize that pharmacy workers are specifically listed in group 1A, as are "outpatient healthcare workers".Satellite of Love said:
The wife reports every few days on FB updates from people who get the vaccine. Oddly enough she has seen pharmacy workers, phycologist or psychiatrist don't remember with one, an ophthalmologist and a dermatologist. Not really front line workers at all but somehow made it to the front of the line.

I've heard when they open a bottle of the vaccine it has a certain number of doses that must be used in a short timeframe. If there aren't enough patients that meet the current guidelines, they may get flexible in who they give it to just to use up the bottle. Could be just rumor though.
