I sure hope not, for their sakes, but you are right. I just noticed the overwhelming amount of those still masking. At the Stars Center it was 30-40 people masking vs 3 not. But the funny part was there were a few that were doing the "I'm masked but I'm not" tweener stage where they would let it hang down as the practice wore on. A few had them around the chin fully by the end of practice. My summation is that a very large portion just still feel out of place unmasking given potential or perceived social implications that not masking can bring with it. I think that a lot would love nothing more than to never mask again but are afraid of being labeled as something or alienating those who might still think masks are necessary. The "I mask to be polite" doesn't always mean polite to "protect" but polite so others will feel comfortable. I just wonder if a lot of these folks are in the camp that feels it best not to rock the boat just yet Incase they piss another person off given how polarized the mask issue is. So basically you have the ones who are still nervous masking, the ones who feel a sense of tribal unity by remaining masked as well on one side, and on the extreme other the ones who never masked or dropped masking already on the other but in the middle are most people. Just not truly sure if it "cool" or not to unmask yet or if they might piss certain people or business off by deciding to unmask even though most are already vaccinated who are in this conundrum. Obviously there are those masking as well b/c they might be on the fence about the vaccine or just haven't gotten it yet. My son is in the Rookie hockey program at the Stars Center in Farmers Branch and almost every parent there had a mask on except 2 or 3 of us. I seriously doubt that many are not vaccinated. Than ate at Babes and numerous people still came in and left wearing masks. It perplexed me that this ,any people aren't ready to throw the damn things away.
Many, like Asians have for years, will wear them from now on; you'll just have to get used to it.
It's a VERY interesting social situation in this very early stage of the return to normalcy.
