Again it was a bit disappointed with the performances of the Aggie seniors who had promised so much over the last couple of years. Ashley Collier, Michael Bryan and even Janeil Bellille to some extent have not done well this season. Bellille came to A&M two years ago with a PB of 55.80 in 400m Hurdles. Thus far her best here has been 57.58. She was initially projected score at NCAA. Now it is bit uncertain. Ashley Collier has in 100m SB – 11.47 PB–11.01. In the 200m SB 24.11 PB– 22.89. Not only the seniors but the Aggie sprinting group has not really done very well this outdoor season so far especially when compared with their PB and what they have done this season.

Why I say so is because I have been monitoring the sprinters from both Texas and Oregon this outdoor seasons. These two teams are just burning up the tracks. Let's look at some of the results so far. Texas four top 400m runners with times of 50.76, 51.41, 51.72 and 51.82. All great times that would score at NCAA. The Aggies have done 52.26, 52.92 and 53.40. Oregon has 51.57, 52.80, 52.92. Ashley Spencer (transfer from Illinois to Texas) defending NCAA 400m champion has drop down to the sprint this season as well and has run 11.27 and 22.69 (no. 1 in NCAA). Some of our sprinters have not run that fast especially in the 100m. Texas in the 100m has 11.03, 11.27, 11.33 (two times from 400m specialist). The Aggies have done 11.17, 11.20, 11.33, 11.44, 11.47, 11.72 from our specialist 100/200m sprinters. Oregon has done 11.11, 11.25, 11.46 from their sprinters which are freshman and sophmores. If you look at the results from the big 12 championship yesterday, 6 Texas women made the finals of the 200m with some very solid times. I know the Big 12 is not as strong as the SEC but I am just looking at the times and the consistency of the Texas women. In the 200m the Texas women have times 22.69, 22.80,22.99, 23.04, 23.24, 23.24. Again these are excellent times that could score in the NCAA. These are from mostly specialist 400m runners (4). The Aggies have done 22.80, 22.83, 22.92, 23.42, 23.99 from specialist 200m runners. Oregon has done 22.82, 22.98, 23.60.
The point is that the Aggies were expected to be unbeatable this season after last season. This was base on who we had and the incoming great Shamier Little. On paper, Aggies have some of the best sprinters in the NCAA but that has not translated into good times this season. The Aggies suppose to have 6 sprinters who can reach or win the NCAA 100m and 200m and another 3-4 in the 400m. Oregon is becoming more and more a sprinting force. Texas benefited from several transfers because of coaching changes but they have done very well the several specialist 400m runners.
I do hope that our Aggies do find form and peak for regionals and Nationals. We need all to perform well on the same day. Again they have done well but on paper the expectation this year was for some great performances and results. Looking forward to the upcoming events.

Any thoughts on why some our more senior sprinters have not met expectations this year. Based on the tradition we have here at Texas A&M, I am quite surprised.

MidTn. I looked at both Texas and Oregon progress over the season because they are our main challengers and also they both in the NCAA West Regional conference. Do you know how difficult it would be qualify as the top 12 from this region in the sprints and hurdles

I'm assuming that Brown has some injury issue that they want to save her for nationals.

Pole vault listings do not make sense. Blankenship has missed 3 jumps and is listed in first. Kendricks failed to jump 5.48m and is listed second. Wolfe and Irwin, who have not missed are listed after the first two.

If Shelbi doesn't get hurt, she is a solid 10 points in any NCAA meet.
