No problem....I should have stated that I wasn't specifically looking for answers. Like I said, I don't have a problem with the background info.

I figured they had to use poison in that city because weapons are not allowed.

Ned is such a noble doofus.

I interpreted Jorah's break up of the assassination attempt as him changing his mind on his priorities and keeping himself out of a corner. He has been spying and helped them set up the attempt as you can see from the pardon but he has grown fond of Danaeres and I think he believes they may actually be able to take the 7 Kingdoms. If they succeed he will be set for life and return home with honor instead of taking a pardon for helping poison a pregnant girl by the very people who kicked him out of his own country. He can always claim he didn't know anything about the failed attempt and continue to feed information (true or fabricated) to the west in the future.

The lesbian scene showed Littlefingers intentions and way of thinking. Might've been hard to catch in-between all the epic boobage though haha. He explained to the girls that you have to trick your target into comfort and wait for they're vulnerable before making your move. He waited until Ned was in over his head to challenge him then he struck. He will have the former queen and king at his back and be able to weasel his way back into Kats life feigning his remorse over Neds loss.

I think he was giving Ned one last chance to step up when he spoke to him about blackmailing Cersei and Joffrey about his lineage and wouldve sided with Ned if he took charge. When he declined, he knew it was his chance to get him out of the way.

Everyone except Ned thinks ahead and beyond the status quo to leave themselves a plan B as an escape route. That's the one thing I like about this show. Everyone has multiple motivations and their own agenda to secure their future prosperity. You just have to figure out what they are and who they are aligning themselves with. It's like figuring out a chess opponent and breaking down their strategy. Very entertaining

I figured that the hand part was sort of a foreshadowing of the trouble the other "hand" had just gotten into i.e. the hand of the king.

The symbolism and foreshadowing has been really cool to watch and speculate on. My favorite from the episode was Jaime Lannisters dad gutting the stag while talking about securing their family's legacy. Kind of symbolic of the way the Lannisters 'gutted' Roberts throne (his crest is a stag right?) from him in the end by having their seed (inbred as he is) take the throne.

Bandito,
That's just what I thought. Why would he want a pardon when he's a top advisor to some BAMFers

Except, the Starks house (Ned) is the stag.

Starks are the dire wolf. That's why they took the pups.

stag = Baratheon

i.e. the king who was just killed in a hunt, with a little help from his Lannister squire's eagerly offered wine flask

yep the stag is the Baratheons - Robert, Renly, and Stannis (who we haven't met yet)

The symbolism with the stag was an easy catch. It bothered me that a noble would drag a huge deer into a nice tent & throw them on a table and then gut & skin them.

I would have let my servants properly field dress & skin the deer hung from a tree or hooks while I wenched and drank.

apache - i know you probably realize it and were just poking fun, but that's the whole point - it was a good bit of characterization for Tywin Lannister. he's the polar opposite of Robert

I'm interested to see whose hand it was that the dog brought. so far I'm not sure what the importance of this bas_tard story at the wall is going to be but I have a feeling it will turn out to be important.

And I feel like the story is focusing on the basstard because eventually he will be the only Stark heir left.

He's the son of Ned Stark, he is still an heir. The name Snow is not his actual last name, it was given to him because they considered him a basstard.
cainer

Snow is his last name he is not a Stark. In each region of Westeros b!stards take different surnames to identify their status. B!stards are considered to be born of greed, lust, and evil.

I know Game of Thrones is not set in the real world, but *******s can become kings, just look at William the Conqueror, so I would see no problem in Jon Snow eventually becoming "king of the north" if all other heirs are killed.

That said, they *can* be legitimized by edict of the king, should he choose to do so. But why would he want to?

Thanks for clearing up my mistake! I had thought that it was the other wag around, interesting how the scene on the sword hilt changes, last week j think it was the wolf and stag fighting. I've also picked up that in the opening credits there are 4 animals a wolf a Stag a dragon and something else I cannot remember at this time. Help anyone?

House lannister? Also for those who read the books with only 3 episodes left this season, do you think it will take it all the way to the end of the book? Seems like a lot to squeeze in.
spag_ag03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think they'll end season 1 exactly where the first book ends...you're right though, a ton of major reveals and wild moments to squeeze into 3 hrs of television.

I think we're all aware of how he got the name Snow, along with people named Stone, Rivers, Flowers, Pyke, etc. Yes, Jon is Ned's son, but he has officially taken the oath of the Nights Watch now, and part of that oath is this:
quote:
It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory

Whatever slim chance a baseborn son has of sitting on a throne in Westeros, he just took himself out of the running.

Regardless of his lineage, Jon can never be Ned's heir. He is a Brother of the Night's Watch now. That's a lifetime vow.

I thought the same thing, but it was missing an ingredient. Timothy Dalton + Professor Lupin:
